  1. Afghanistan isn't in a full fledged civil war. As well we haven't seen nearly that amount of casualties in Afghanistan as compared to the venture in Iraq. Are you talking about army.ca??? http://forums.army.ca/forums/index.php/topic,53198.0.html
  2. I actually think children should learn about the different religions at a younger age. The best way to fight intolerance is through knowledge, the more people know about different religions and cultures the better society we'll have. As for the crosses, they should have been allowed, in a society such as ours we should not re-write history so as not to offend anybody. As well why would people be offended by other religious symbols, as we are supposed to be a tolerant society. If the school was trying to evangilize kids, and make them prayer to a certain god then I'd have a problem. However in this case it was just political correctness taken to the extreme.
  3. I realize Greg's job is hard, but it usually takes two to tango. GH had just as much of a part in it as well.
  4. Lyndon Larouche sounds like quite the nutjob. He's been labelled a conspiracy theorist, a loon, a nazi, an anit-semite. Considered a fascist by many as well. Not to mention claims that the Larouche movement is a political cult. Here's some insight into the Larouche Movement. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaRouche_Youth_Movement http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaRouche_Movement#Criticism http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/artic...-2004Oct20.html http://www.adl.org/main_Arab_World/zayed_center.htm I wouldn't be surprised if a large portion of the 9/11 conspiracy movement have some anti-semitic elements to it.
  5. Yeah no doubt, the relevations turned out to be nothing at all. Hell I was even wondering if I'd have to be looking for a new party if those relevation's sounded as bad as he made them out to be.
  6. Wow, somebody knows very little about military tradition. The crosses represent the dead, and I believe their is a reference to crosses in the poem by John McRae. Perhaps we should change the poem as well so as to not offend anybodies religious views. Besides I don't see whats so offensive about a cross, I don't get offended when I see the Star of David, or the Crescent. But then again thats just me. Then I'd say you have no idea what political correctness is.
  7. People make this stuff up all the time. Here's a few examples: - The civil rights movement was really a front for the communists - 9/11 was perpetrated by the government - The government has alien's at Area 51 - A "Phaser beam" incinerated the World Trade Center - The Nazi's didn't kill more then 200,000 Jews People make this shit up all the time, then find bogus evidence to prove their point.
  8. No, Alberta Progressive Conservatives going door to door. It was great, first year I was interested in politics too, got to meet Ralph Klein due to my involvement.
  9. Doesn't Clinton also support the death penalty. I think he might be more socially conservative then Clinton!
  10. Well I read the article, and congressman Larry McDonald was the chairman of the John Birch Society. Now here is just an insight into what the John Birch Society believes in, and has believed in. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Birch_Society As well you can go to the website and find out how evil Martin Luther King was on the website. Not to mention believing that Eisenhower was a "communist agent". So, PN are you a JBS member??? As for the flight being show down, read it and weep. [qoute]Some people, including former U.S. Senator Jesse Helms, R-North Carolina, have said they believed that all or most of the passengers and crew of flight KAL 007 survived after their damaged aircraft managed to land safely at an airfield on Sakhalin island, and were then placed inside various Soviet "gulag"-style slave labor camps, prisons, and orphanages, in the case of the many children. This theory was largely discredited when the flight recorders that the Soviets had recovered were released to the public after the Soviet Union fell.[/qoute] But not to worry, their are those that support your view, like Jesse Helms.
  11. Actaully, the most I ever learned about our role in both world wars was at CFLRS St Jean. We need to have a larger emphasis on our history and where we came from.
  12. The ACLU went to bat for them because they believed that they deserved freedom of speech. The ACLU wasn't advocating lowering the age of consent. Even though I find what they say to be vile, they still have a right to say it. The best way to confront them is by using the same freedom's we are afforded.
  13. Canadian history needs to be taught in more depth in Canadian schools. When I went to school we did history before 1770, and Canadian history after 1960 which was primarily taught. But not much was taught for both world war's, as well as confederation. I think what they ought to do is make Social Studies and History seperate. Social studies dealing with current events, civics, religion, culture, law, etc. While history is focused on Canadian history, world history, etc.
  14. I blame the CIA and Mossad. It's the only logical explaination!!! I could probably find a bunch of scientists and engineers who also can prove that the Roswell crash was real.
  15. No, its alot different from Iraq. Once again progress is being made, and now their is a more secure area rebuilding can go ahead at a more progressive pace. It could be possible that were fighting a non-terrorist insurgency is a cop out since you don't have much proof of this. Were fighting the Taliban, that is who the offensives were targeting in Op Medusa. Don't try to create a "Canadian Vietnam" out of nothing. Actually, its expressed by a large number of military members. I remember in the mess Duceppe was on TV talking about pulling out and most of the french recruits seemed to dislike him. While the army is diverse in political views, for the most part a large portion of the troops seem to support Stephen Harper because he is pro-military. While the Liberals and NDP seem more anti-military. I think the Airborne Regiment getting disbanded was a pretty good display of how the previous government viewed the military.
  16. Man, thats the creepiest thing that a politician has ever said. Now why in the hell are we worried about the "dog" comment when somebody makes a comment like this. Honestly, a 28 having sex with what could have been a 14 year old. I mean, when I was 14 I was in grade 9, I don't see how anybody could have the maturity to start having sex, not to mention with somebody that is over a decade older. Alot of things were okay in 1955 that aren't okay today. First of all a majority of girls under the age of 16 aren't mature enough to get into a sexual relationship with somebody much older then them. I think 16 is the right age since that is when teens get more responsibilities in life. Personally, I think the drinking age, and voting age should be lowered to 16 across the board.
  17. I believe once again the major concern was with religious freedom. As for hate speech, well, we'll haven't had a real debate on that yet.
  18. Yes they are, even with some of the Social Conservative stances Harper has taken they are no worse then Clinton's. Really the whole Liberal theme of being "anti-Republican" is pretty stupid. Why not be "anti-Christian Democrat", "anti-Australian Liberal", etc. As well the Republican's have some liberal senators and liberal congressmen. Some of these politician's are even more leftwing then the Liberals.
  19. I believe several politicians, and many people have voiced opposition to the Patriot Act. Yet these people haven't been sent off to deathcamps yet.
  20. Well Norman Afghanistan is far from an Islamic dictatorship. Once again for a fledgling democracy their will be problems, however so far I believe that its a cause worth dying for. Women were given a right to vote, and the constitution enshrines various human rights. But I don't really see the reasoning in saying lets stop progress before it can start by pulling out and leaving the sheep to the wolves. Not it isn't, listen once again Afghanistan is a democracy and voted for Karzai. Afghanistan isn't threatning to wipe Jew's off the face of the planet as Iran is. Women are serving in positions of power in the government, and they have more freedom's then ever before, thanks largely to the CF and NATO. Remember, this is a UN sanctioned mission. While its not perfect its better then the alternative. Wrong again. I read the case and the government withdrew the charges due to the overzealous judiciary. This is the only case I have read that has happened in Afghanistan. The international community reacted, and I can garauntee you that if Afghanistan had killed Abdul Rahman then Afghanistan would not be getting much needed aid, as the story made international headlines. Once again the government was desperately trying to drop the charges.
  21. Canadian's don't always support the troops..... What wrong direction is that? Once again of all of the reports I have read about Afghanistan it appears we have been making improvements. I don't see whats wrong with trying to improve security in the south since the Taliban are the ones who are denying human rights, and recently killed a leading women's rights advocate in Afghanistan. Sometimes I wonder what people are thinking when they say pullout of the country. Does anybody really think the situation will be better ten years down the road when Afghanistan is back in the same position it was in, in 2000. We haven't lost troops lately, and we have been seeing improvements, contrary to what the NDP and Liberals say. Or even worse a civil war in that country which could have implications for the whole region.
  22. Wow, thats quite a bigoted response if I ever did hear one. Sounds like somebody knows very little about religion. I think the major problem with religion is the perversion of religion, not religion itself. Religion has done much good in society, as well as some harm. However, nearly every group in history could be guilty of injustice, not just religious groups. Before making a blanket statement about Rabbi's you should try to learn a little bit more about the religion.
  23. Islam, Christianity, and Judaism are Abrahamic religions. I don't know why anybody would support a massive war in order to bring out a peace that could results in hundreds of thousands fewer deaths. Why not try diplomacy???
  24. Yeah, whatever happened to those Taliban guys, Afghanistan was such a better place until we got there. Listen Norman, Canadian's routinely go into countries with corrupt governments to help out. As well the fact that women can actually vote and sit in legislatures is a pretty big step forward. The constitution might not be perfect, but its a huge leap from what was their before. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitution_of_Afghanistan
  25. I can also garauntee you that the vast majority of Canadian's are ignorant towards what Kyoto's targets are. Just because a person is against decriminilization doesn't make them a Socon. Once again I've provided you with statements that have shown Harper wouldn't force a Socon agenda on anyone. Something which you conveniently ignored. As well I'd imagine laws regarding pot would be put to a free vote, as should be the case with any matter of conscious. As well I believe the conservative's main concern with the marijuana bill was more with the amount of pot a person could carry with them. I support legalization, only when everything else is cleared up. I want to legalize polt. But at the same time I realize, as was pointed in the drug driving laws, that police still may not be able to charge people who have are high and have been driving. We should at the very least wait until we can close any legal loopholes that could cause dangers on our streets. As well we have to consider the US, since if American's disagree with the policy it could lead to a possible negative economic consequences. Personally, people being able to make a steady income is more important then a high school kid smoking pot legally. http://www.canadawebpages.com/pc-election2...servative#Issue
