  1. Dear August1991, I'll have to side with Melanie on this one. Your statement is likely true for the majority, but here's an example of the opposite. Hitler and Stalin had no offspring that we know of, yet they will still be an influence on the world for a long time to come. Hitler didn't build a reich that could last 1,000 years, but hatred of him will last at least that long.
  2. Dear GostHacked, I suspect she was injected with collagen and botox, implanted with silicone, and given access to any kind of precscription/illegal drug she desired. Then, they made her heart race at lightspeed with the promise of free billions, then the threat of it being taken away, then back again. All under the watchful eye of everyone (without a life) on the planet.http://start.shaw.ca/start/enCA/Entertainm...rc=e020873A.xml She used and abused her body like it was a red-headed step-child...= one dead bimbo.
  3. Dear Charles Anthony, Terribly sorry, just trying to be funny. A 'brad' is a sort of nail. http://www.aircofasteners.com.au/BRADDER.p...ES&cat1=BRADDER By 'noggin', I mean head. In a roundabout way, I meant 'You hit the nail on the head'. I am not sure that there are 'mental institutions' apart from those for 'the criminally insane' (that is, someone who has met the criteria of being a 'demonstrable threat')from... http://www.irmacs.sfu.ca/events/past_abstr...php?pkey=130471
  4. Dear Charles Anthony, Excellent swing, a direct blow to the 'brad-noggin'. I have had situations regarding the 'mentally ill', and the police told me that if they are not 'a demonstrable threat to themselves or to others, they cannot be held against their will." However, another police officer told me (off the record) that he believes that some people should be 'institutionalized', where they would be far less likely to harm themselves or others, and would have proper medical treatment. Unfortunately, (or fortunately for some) individual rights supercede the rights of 'society' (read: others). I feel addictions, especially if a crime is involved, should be treated the same way. Pee in a cup, if drugs are found, then off to the treatment centre. But not for hours, (as it is now...a severly intoxicated/drugged person is taken by the police, if at all, to the drop-in/rehab center for about 4 hours, until they are 'out of danger') but for weeks/months.
  5. Sadly, many people with mental illnesses end up on the streets, and become 'homeless'. Schizophrenia is often undiagnosed until it is too late. They simply end up ostracized and on AISH or welfare. I see a few of them every day, but it is somewhat saddening, as they are the ones that truly should get gov't assistance, yet their access to treatment is limited due to limited funds. Of the 'homeless' and welfare/disability cases, I would say that 5-10% are mentally ill, while the other 90% are freeloading, lazy drunks or addicts that suck the system dry. I am not surprised at the $100,000 figure. One of my customers, a surgeon, told me about the real reason for the ambulance shortage in Calgary. Evidently, the Drop-in center (and the adjacent scum-bag hotel, the Cecil) sees about 50 or more ambulance calls per week. They have an ambulance sent there nearly 10 times a day, for everything from a runny nose to stabbings over crack money. One of the big problems is that the paramedics must stay with the person until they get admitted/treated, thereby keeping that ambulance/paramedic team out of commission for sometimes hours. An on-site medical specialist (who could decide if an ambulance ride was needed) would be a boon.
  6. Dear August1991, The 'left' has been driving that train for a long time now. "Jumping on the train' indeed. For decades, the 'left' has been critical of the backseat that the environment has taken over the glory of 'corporatist' profit. Why are the 'poor countries' burning and razing the rainforest, etc? For the profits. Here is McDonald's recent policy statement... http://www.mcdonalds.ca/en/community/envir...rainforest.aspx 'Rainforst beef' is cheaper, and they can keep domestic supply prices down. They simply mix it at the factories. You'll note, they don't buy beef from 'rainforests'. That is probably good, since cattle don't thrive in rainforests. Then they try to minimize culpability with the term 'recently deforested land'. Regardless, hectares upon hectares of the planet's lungs have been destroyed in the name of 'fast food beef' (McDonald's isn't the only guilty party). from.. http://www.mcspotlight.org/people/witnesse...ins_ronald.html To say that concern for the environment is the latest fad by the 'left' simply to 'bash the West' is utterly ridiculous.
  7. Dear August1991, I totally agree. In fact, it should not only include the US but every country, whether they like it or not. The big question is, how do you enforce it? Sadly, this analogy is a bit flawed. It is more akin to the big guy getting up and walking out on the tab after the dinner. Then what?
  8. Dear Black Dog, Sans doubte! It reminds me of an old M*A*S*H episode, where BJ Hunnicutt and Hawkeye decided to give Frank Burns a birthday present...by pretending to hate each other. You'd think Leafless would be pleased with this news, but I guess he has chosen to bash Canada for caring about the issue. Come to think of it, Leafless does remind me of Frank Burns...
  9. Dear Charles Anthony, Though I am 'leftist', I also beleive that the 'union' is more detrimental than beneficial nowdays. It had it's time and place, but should have disappeared about the same time that the baseball bat was outlawed as a negotiation tool. Now it is both harmful to employees and employers. Labour and employment standards, safety monitoring, etc, have covered most of what workers truly need for protection. Businesses should be allowed to decide whether or not to use union labour.
  10. Dear August1991, That is almost an oxymoron. Most products from China are crap. I try to avoid buying stuff made there, but it is well nigh impossible. If I do buy something 'Made in China', I realize from the start that I am buying something disposable and have bought it on the cheap with that reason in mind.
  11. Yes, Die Superbowl, Die! (Not meant to be read by Germans) Perhaps there is a forum at 'MeLikeFootball.com' or something where the bulk of this thread might be appropriate. Besides, all the hype and no substance leads me to believe that the next 'world tiddlywinks competition' would likely be more entertaining. However, even speculating who might win that competiton would have no place on a political forum.
  12. Dear Charles Anthony, Not a misunderstanding actually, just a poor attempt at humour. You are the 'forum facilitator' (and doing a fine job, I might add), not really the 'moderator', but my joke was meant to imply that as an anarchist, you would naturally be against 'moderation', or a 'moderator', as resembling a 'state', or control over the freedom of others. As to the rest of your post, you'd make a fine politician. Don't forget your chapstick for the obligatory butt/baby kissing!
  13. Dear Charles Anthony, There is no need to mess with nature. Then why was Pickton arrested? Well, they don't now. My problem is that I live and work in fear everyday because I am in the middle of a so-called 'red light district'. I see the nitty-gritty of the crack-cocaine trade, and prostitution, every day. Yesterday a man was beaten in the street in front of my business because he owed someone money for drugs. What action could I take, with or without a state, to keep my customer base from avoiding the neighbourhood altogether, without infringing on this person's right to deal drugs and to beat/murder whomever he wishes?
  14. Dear kimmy, Indeed that was the point. I am not familiar with the Globe&Mail, so I cannot really say if this omission was unusual or not. I would expect though, that if a paper were trying to cater to a 'higher-brow' of clientele, then this omission would not be unusual. Perhaps they felt that NFL coverage would be best left to some tawdry publication like the Sun, which actually caters to the knuckle-walking crowd. "Read the Sun Today! A Large-Breasted, Bikini-Clad Tart in Every Issue! Full Colour Comics that won't make you think! Large, easy to read type with no big words! Gooooo (local sports/college team)!!!tfb {pulling hard for the sniper, and pulling on a 'super bowl' of my own}
  15. Dear Charles Anthony, Then they risk running afoul of the most feared authority of them all...Revenue Canada. I think a 'red light district' is an idea worth considering, for if indeed we cannot eleminitate problems, we should seek to control and localize them.
  16. Where do I get my news and info? It depends, I suppose. I like to loook at two or more sources for international news, usually a local source in Calgary and a local source from where the story comes from. For example, if reading a story in the Calgary Sun or Herald (or even the BBC or CBC)about Israel/Palestine, I will also try to read about the same event on http://www.israelnationalnews.com/ for their perspective. In the ME I will also try to read http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/55A...6BBE2A36665.htm or, http://www.iraqdaily.com/ and sometimes http://www.globalsecurity.org/ I will also glance at http://www.csmonitor.com/ for in-depth coverage/op-ed stuff. Whenever possible, I will buy books closest to 'the horse's mouth', such as "The 911 Commission Report", "Disarming Iraq" (by Hans Blix), etc, but I never take any 1 source as gospel. I try to never read 'bloggers'. I have seen far too many blatant lies from of them, left or right, to give them any credibility, and almost all of their 'information' can be found elsewhere. Many of my friends, family and my clientele have travelled (and lived) the world over, some to every continent (including Antarctica) and are often a very interesting source of info. First-hand experience is often closest to the truth.
  17. Dear Charles Anthony, We're the biggest party of all! I can see you're bucking for a spot on the team yourself. (time for my daily pot-shot at anarchy...) I find it shocking that an Anarchist would believe anything could be made better with moderation!
  18. I have to agree with jefferiah here. While I have no love for churches, (at least not the ones made out of gold) he is merely stating that which he believes should be the moral stance of the church. It would be pretty much the same thing if the Dalai Lama called upon everyone "To end conflict through meditation and enlightenment". Everyone's dogma will be 'morally relative' to what they believe. (When I first read the thread title, I thought the pope had died and they just named a new one named "Pope Frantic". But then I realized Pope Ratz is the youngest one they've had in a while, so he'll probably last at least another 10-20 years lol.)
  19. What the fuck for? A section for like-minded people to pat each other on the back? If a poster with dissenting views (or relevant but contrary information other than the accepted 'party line') comes along, what will you say? "Hey, you're not allowed here, just our viewpoints may be discussed!" Partisanship is discouraged here, yet you seem to be proposing an entire section for it!
  20. Dear Drea, Jets disintegrate when they hit reinforced concrete. Click on this link, http://www.alexisparkinn.com/test_flying_videos.htm and go to 'jet versus wall'. Look at 1, 2, and 3. #1 contains the audio commentary, and uses the word 'atomized'.
  21. Dear Wilber, Indeed, and well said. I had suggested to Charles Anthony (in a roundabout way) that the greatest dilemna in politics is "Where does one go when one abandons Utopia?" Does one then shoot for the very middle?
  22. Obviously this forum, for one. The moderation here has been, by and large, excellent. Warnings and bannings, to the best of my knowledge, have been for violations of forum rules and/or etiquette, never for the reason of trying to supress a view. I feel that Greg should not answer this question. His fairness and impartiality would, both instantly and forevermore, be called into question.
  23. Dear Charles Anthony, You fell victim to the unfortunate circumstance of being second in my letter of address to Riverwind. I may have used 'Dear so-and so' more than once in the same post in the past, but rarely and I try not to do it anymore. Just doesn't seem...'proper'. Well, that would depend on how you define 'ownership'. I'd need 'godlike powers' to enforce my will, I suppose, so I would likely peek up a lot more dresses.
  24. Dear Charles Anthony, Is it...'anus'? (j/k)How do you reason that anarchy would suppress/replace human nature?
