  1. Look up "Operation Ajax". It was a joint Brit/CIA operation in the 50's to overthrow the Iran government. It's been downhill ever since. It was all about oil.
  2. Man are you ever the tough guy...it's not impressive though...
  3. Not sure I agree entirely because Chretien did shut the Inquiry down. I seem to recall that they had one of his deputy guys on the witness list but the inquiry was prevented from getting into examining the government guys and their possible role in the matter. In any event, General Hillier is responsible to see to it that his detainees were treated in accordance with the Geneva conventions - not to keep his eyes firmly shut and then declare that he did not see any torture. Anyone with half a brain would automatically assume that when handing prisoners over to the Afghans the likliehood of torture was very high. Hillier made no personal effort to make sure that torture didnt happen. Oh well....onward and upward. Remember, Harper is the guy, when opposition, declared that the Canadian Army needs to be sent to Iraq. - As PM he claimed that he only said that to scare Saddam.
  4. The hanging judge has spoken. Lets give the SOB a trial and THEN hang the bastard!!!
  5. How about answering a simple question. Its not about whether you believe or disbelieve the said evidence. The question is...do you believe that Khadr should or should not be given a trial?
  6. Neither you or anyone else in this forum has ever seen the evidence. Its all anecdotal. If you continue to claim to know exactly what all the evidence is, you must have been receiving it via your toaster.
  7. Maybe its time you criticized the Americans too when they get caught doing that shit.
  8. Perhaps if we were discussing sexual assault you might be correct. But we arent doing that. Sleep deprivation is torture. Of that, there is no doubt. I'm positive that if your teenage son was ever grabbed up by the RCMP and kept incognito for endless periods of time and deprived of sleep in order to get him to admit to something... I'm pretty damn sure you'd be yelling at the top of your lungs.... TORTURE!!!! That's illegal damn it!!!
  9. This isnt about Islamic fundamentalism. Its not about left or right. Its about the law under which we reside. It appears that you dont believe that Khadr should get a trial and that he should be locked up forever in a dungeon and be tortured ... so be it. You arent alone in that belief. However, your beliefs are consistent with the views espoused by Christian fundamentalism back in the 1400's. Clearly you dont understand that I am concerned about your lack of concern or perhaps indifference regarding our Charter of Human Rights and the law.
  10. I saw his comments being directed more toward the infamous Chaimberlan story. I was hoping he would elaborate but it seems he was just being obtuse. However, your comments are not lost on me. As far as the radical Islamist bit goes....were I an Afghani, the mere presence of foreign soldiers who dont speak my language, occupying my land and killing a lot of civilians just might make me a radical too.
  11. Its not about appeasment. There is no reason to remain in Afghanistan. They are a tribal culture and will never be democratized. The US exited Vietnam but not for reasons of appeasment. We all exited Somalia but not for reasons of appeasment. Common sense dictated those actions. Common sense and a sense of history should tell you that leaving Afghanistan sooner rather than later makes perfect sense. Karzai surely has stashed away enough of our money in his personal bank account in Switzerland to rebuild Afghanistan on his own. Let me suggest to you that the only appeasment I see here is appeasing me by stopping our tax dollars from being dumped into that giant toilet bowl in Kabul.
  12. Better is a relative term. Afghanistan is a sink hole consisting of uneducated and murderous tribal factions. Its now a bottomless pit absorbing countless amounts of yours and our money. It would be much cheaper and safer for all to get the Hell out and pay the Taliban to keep the wannabe terrorists from setting up camp as they had in the past.
  13. Excellent points. Only a trial might bring the answers to light. Perhaps a trial is something that the US authorities have been afraid of.
  14. That just about sums it up I'd say...
  15. Tghis is all academic. The foreign forces in Afghanistan will move a lot of rubble around with their bombs but at the end of the day...nothing will change. Once the coalition forces leave...the tribes will still hate and kill each other as they have done for centuries. Its time to leave.
  16. You have absolutely no evidence of that. Only an open trial will decide that matter. I assume that you'd want to see a trial....sooner rather than later...
  17. You are absolutely dead wrong on that.
  18. It doesnt say the prevailing opinion of all legal experts. Hence my comment re the term you used ie. "prevailing". It seemed to me that your bringing the two subject matters into the same sentence implies that there was some kind of nexus. There isnt any. What do you believe that Canada can do from a legal stand point? What precisely do you believe Canada could do regarding the parents? There is no evidence to suggest child abuse. There is no evidence that says the lad was raised as a child soldier. We only have the US authorities say so on that matter.
  19. I cant help but be reminded of the Somalia Inquiry and the deserved downfall of General Boyle for his cover-up attempts.
  20. Right or wrong...there is always a basis behind an opinion. I would say that there isn't any prevailing opinion..... differing opinions or varying opinions might be more like it. Whatever his parents might have or might not have done has absolutely nothing to do with Canada's Supreme Court decision....namely that Khadr's rights were violated by the Canadian officials who visited Khadr in Gitmo. Its that simple. Lets have a trial and see what it brings...
  21. Be reminded...the two articles you quoted from are only opinion pieces. Perhaps you could advise us of what charges would or should be laid upon this lad were he sent back to Canada. Afterall, the US has all the evidence and isnt willing to honestly share it or make it public. Lets just all sit back calmly and see if the kid gets a trial in the US for his deeds.....that is if the charges have any merit..
  22. If Blair is right, I would have expected the violence to have been eliminated after the demise of Saddam. Wouldnt you? Violence in Iraq seems to be humming along on a day to day basis at about the same clip as it was before the invasion.....perhaps even higher. Its simply taking a different form.
  23. This is unbelievably silly...how old are you? There are many in this country that are simply of the belief that Khadr should be given a trial and not left to rot in a dungeon without regard to the fundamental human rights we supposedly enjoy in this country. Rights that our forefathers died for. This has nothing to do with right or left...
