      North Americans seem to care little about tiny South Pacific Islands going under, so I'm hopeful that as stories like this appear we begin to realize the monumental costs of burning fossil fuels.

      It will take levees, sea walls, river control systems, relocations, etc. to re-engineer many coastal cities for the rising water levels. It will take cutting emissions to limit the extent of the damage.
