Dismantling of the Canadian Wheat Board.
Jerry J. Fortin replied to Bob's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The deed is done. Now there is a choice for farmers, something they never had before. They can still sell to the wheat board, but they can also sell to whoever they choose. That is not a bad thing. -
There was a little more to it. In the end an apology was made for the behavior, the speaker ruled the apology was made, and as far as I can see on the technical side of things its all done. Now the politics have begun.

Ottawa warns current health transfers unsustainable
Jerry J. Fortin replied to olp1fan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Health care and its compatriot education are the two big ticket items on the block. In addition the government seeks a ten percent overall reduction in expenditures, that's their plan, austerity leads to prosperity. From my point of view the feds have nothing to do with healthcare, its a provincial responsibility. The feds set a standard, and they provide some funding. The funding formula is a political football, nothing more. That football needs to be passed to the provinces. -
Politically correct terminology.

I wish you would have simply said women, there is the real tragedy. Its not just this group or that, it is THE most divisive issue in the world. Sorry guys, but the days are numbered for the "MAN's" world.

You are comparing apples and oranges. Aside from that I doubt the Leader of the Green Party represented the Government of Canada in anyway shape or form.

The Royal Family has long arms. Does anyone really think the Queen to be either penniless or powerless? Does anyone really think the Crown divested itself of all powers in perpetuity ? The barristers can argue the law till the cows come home but at the end of the day one word still stands in the light, sovereign. That word came from somewhere and it means something. Once that concept is understood, Churchill's quip about democracy becomes a little more clear.

They certainly are part of the Government of Canada. Further to that point I will suggest that those in elected office should have some function and partake in a responsible position, each and every one of them. There are surely more than three hundred odd things that need to get done in this nation, so why is not every single elected representative championing one of those problems and getting is fixed. I will say it outright, the government is not there to fix problems, they are there to service a bureaucracy. Until we change the tune the politicians will sing the same song. Its time to change the tune.

First Nations peoples are being eradicated by
Jerry J. Fortin replied to a topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Posturing, nothing more or less. The Six Nations already have whatever lands they were ever going to get. There can be no solution based on dollar bills and the Six Nations should and most likely do know this. The land in question will not be taken from the current owners. The compensation that may and likely will be offered will make them rich enough, period. -

Great start. Now let us begin with your interpretation of the word equal, or should I simply say your choice in terminology for your desired statement. Words can be weapons as well as tools, it depends not merely on personal perspective but as much as the level of discernment that each individual is capable of. Another old adage is simply that it takes two to tango. The practical application of law is the factual root of the problem is it not? The answer to the puzzle may be that the law MUST BE considered to be "living" and subject to the pretext of being in the public interest. That interest is determined by legislative effort through democratic process. In other words the tyranny of the majority is preserved. While I do truly indeed applaud constitutional enhancements such as our efforts at human rights, I will suggest that we are as far away from equal rights today as we were from human rights in 1867. This nation has stalled in its attempt at nation building, we have failed in our attempt to create the just society we all desired. Even so, perhaps we can make something from our failures in spite of ourselves. The inequity of which you speak is founded within our own constitution. You are therefore right, and we do need to correct the inequity first by making all natural (as opposed to legal citizens) citizens equal with no more right or privilege than ANY OTHER citizen. -

In fact your support does matter. As a matter of fact it is indeed relevant. With all due respect, I will suggest that the person who would be "doing everything in our power to avoid the consequence of our own inaction" is most likely a fully educated idiot spending their life time wondering why they are getting old chasing their own tail. I maintain that all citizens are equal, we should all have the same rights. -

Governments are like corporations, mere figureheads to mitigate harm without serious legal ramifications. My point was that the treaty was one endorsed by the Monarch by design, and as such the Crown must accept responsibility for ALL outcomes. -

The reality is that the First Nations peoples lost very nearly all that they had. They lost it because we took it from them in battle, that is the reality. What is happening today has nothing to do with past victories and defeats. It has nothing to do with land claims or compensation, it has everything to do with an attempt to reclaim lost honour. That is the truth of the matter. The entire Six Nations claim in Ontario is based on the harsh reality that one designated representative of their own group facilitated the transfer of title to native lands unto non-native hands. That was done almost a hundred years before this nation came into existence. One native screwing another native two centuries ago does not constitute a treaty violation on the part of the Canadian government. If you want to point a finger, then go chase the down the relatives of the agents of the crown who facilitated the transfer of the entire package of lands now called Canada. Is not the Queen the official Head of State of Canada anyway? At least it was Her direct lineage that can be traced without question or problem, it was Her ancestors that put pen to paper in the first place, so why not put the blame where it belongs? -

Face veils banned for citizenship oaths

From my perspective, nobody should be able to prevent the federal government from determining the identity of a citizen. It should be illegal to do so in my view. -

It certainly is time to end it. Never been a better time with all the problems we are just now becoming aware of. WE do need to act, immediately. I will suggest that the First Nations sit down with the Government of Canada, and not leave the table till they get the job done. No breaks, no chance to miss an opportunity for resolution until the deed is done. WE are going on two centuries of this nonsense, time enough to resolve any issue that may have arisen. Both sets of politicians are cowards and fools, allowing themselves to prosper while those around them suffer. All involved should be held to account by public demand. MAYBE IT IS TIME TO ACT !
