  1. I'm confused. So, you support the efforts to liberate Afghanistan from the fascists?
  2. I consider the label "liberals" to describe these politically correct people to be insulting. They are fascists. I am, personally and politically, extremely liberal, almost to the point of being an extremist. The people who write the Toronto Star and Macleans are fascists, stuck in the past, i.e. the 60's. They are not liberals by any classic definition.
  3. Well I certainly didn't mean to single you out specifically, I was just pulling quotes from this thread. There are a lot of other posters on this forum who love to bash gerryhatrick. Why is it OK to bash him/her but not OK to bash Harper? Excuse me, sir. I did not bash GH. I gave him the highest praise, which was to refer to him as an "excellent poster". I consider GH to be quite an intellect, and I am privileged to post alongside him. That is why many (though not all) of the threads and posts I referenced were his.
  4. This morning, I went to an anti-Hezbollah rally at my synagogue. I was stunned to be arguing with a 74 year old Jewish person about Iran. He was arguing that we should be "negotiating" with Iran's president. I asked him what our first concession should be. I asked, if the first concession on the table was withdrawing support from Israel, thus dooming it, would that be acceptable? He answered "obviously not". I asked if he had any ideas what acceptable goals the Iranian mullahs might have. He had no idea. Many Jews, it seems, have lost the heart to fight for themselves, and are unworthy of the extensive array of support they receive from Christians of good will such as Harper and Bush. I am afraid that the West, similarly, has lost interest in preserving what's best about us; our freedom from fear, freedom from want, political and religious freedom, standard of living, relative equality of opportunity, and the English language.
  5. I still hold out hope that we're in a "phony war" period similar to the beginnings of WW II, and that eventually, and hopefully not too late we'll get serious. In our country, that's how we wound up taking the risk of electing Reagan, and opting for full-scale change which rejected those elites. Many Europeans and Canadians have never forgiven us. Nor have I. I have always pointed out that very few Americans or Canadian flee to North Korea, Indonesia, Pakistan, Cuba, Myanmar, Sudan or Syria. He was spot on. Too bad I wasn't aware of that quote, to use back in those days of the CBC "Town Meeting". The truth hurts. Berlusconi allowed himself to be defeated in an election. Mussolini was strung up by the heels by "partisans". This morning, I went to an anti-Hezbollah rally at my synagogue. I was stunned to be arguing with a 74 year old Jewish person about Iran. Luzzatto's views, unfortunately, are hardly unique among Jews. Dangerous to elites, who rely upon the masses not to hear common sense. Look what a dose of common sense did to Jimmy Carter, John Forbes Kerry and Paul Martin. Again, I hope this changes, and fast. I think it will. I see the glass as half full. Unfortunately, it takes atrocities such as September 11, 2001 and the inconvenience of security measures to bring it home.
  6. And he's out of business as well. So really, getting him isn't so important. He's dead man walking.
  7. What do you suggest as an alternative? A melting pot, where all would be Canadians first, and then pay homage to their ancestral past.
  8. I think you have it pretty much right.
  9. Well, who says demands need to make sense, in this politically correct day and age? My suggestion is that all signage and grocery labeling throughout Canada be in the native language of any "identifiable group" (borrowing from hate crimes law) with over 1.0% of Canada's population. The Jewish community would have to vote on whether "their" language was Hebrew or Yiddish. The only exception should be Quebec, which should have signs in French and Arabic.
  10. Could it also help the Greens in their hopes of replacing the NDP as the voice of the left? Could be some interesting vote-splitting, and at least temporary loss of many ridings to non-"progressive" parties.
  11. I am not a Catholic. However, that post is gravely distressing, childish and insulting. There's no reason for that.
  12. GH is an excellent poster, and a real treasure of this board. I have to applaud your mastery of sarcasm. Moi?
  13. As far as Jews, John Paul II was the greatest. He named two people in his will; one was Rome's Chief Rabbi. The Vatican, under his leadership, recognized Israel. It doesn't get much better.
  14. GH is an excellent poster, and a real treasure of this board.
  15. The first post listed is not gerryhatrick's. The way I compiled this was, in my Yahoo inbox (from which I eliminate duplicates from a thread systematically), taking the thread opener of any thread substantially about Harper. There was no effort to single GH out, nor did I desire that result.
  16. My view is that the people who vote are those with a stake in society. Aside from taking steps that Canada has commendably taken (and the US not), such as advance voting, I think the best results obtain when the people who are motivated, involved and informed vote. I do not see the need to force people who have little interest in going to the polls, and doing little more than going "eenie, meenie, minie, moe".
  17. What is anti-semitic and anti-woman of the Catholic church? I'm not familiar with the Church's policies towards women, aside from non-eligibility for priesthood, and requirement of priestly celibacy. Speaking as a Jew, I have no complaints about Church policy, since the elevation of Archibishop Rancalli to the papacy as Pope John. In fact, it's only gotten better, though the jury is still out on Pope Benedict.
  18. To the contrary, the values of official bi-lingualism should and must trump all other values, even public safety and defense.
  19. To quote someone gerryhatrick no doubt admires (and I do admire gerryhatrick's posting), and as a very great leader of a very great democracy once said: "A proof is a proof (Link) What kind of proof ? It's a proof. A proof is proof. And when you have a good proof, it's because it is proven."
  20. What opinion did I express? I was posting this purely for convenience, in order to help people attack Harper and restore the virtuous, clean, pure as driven snow Liberal Party to office. Which rules did I break. I have never attacked you.
  21. They were a picture of prosperity between 1973, when the constitutional monarchy was deposed by Taraki (I think) and the end of Taliban rule? Back in the days of Marco Polo the same jihad was going on. They didn't hate us on September 11, 2001? The Taliban didn't slaughter non-combatants, both at home and in NYC? You don't value freedom enough to keep the barbarians at bay? You mean Western troops are detonating themselves in order to cause indiscriminate slaughter? With who? About what?
  22. A User's Guide to Assist in Finding Anti-Harper Posts As a public service, I am consolidating references and links to anti-Harper threads, and on occasions posts, in one centralized location. This forum's "snapback" feature will greatly assist in moving to the actual thread, to post your anti- or pro-Harper sentiments. As an American, I barely know who Harper is. I can see, from my limited time here, that he excites almost total interest in some of his detractors, and inspires great admiration from others. Are they really that stupid? Link http://www.canada.com/topics/news/national...a1d&k=45318 Good news. Cue all the tired old opinions that Kyoto is useless. It's so interesting to hear that one....for the thousandth time. If reports about the Conservative environmental plan are true they are out of step with a huge majority of Canadians on this issue. They should have had more than 70 odd people in their focus group!! http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...PStory/National Don't hold yer breath. Naming their donors would be death for Harper no doubt. Can you say USA?
  23. Would feel the same way if they were democratically elected like Hezbolla or Hamas? If a people democratically elect Hezbolla or Hamas all excuses for not waging war on them evaporate. They cannot argue that the militaristic dictatorship is imposed.
  24. Some people are hear just to attack Harper and the Conservatives. Perhaps there could be a new forum started here just for people with that interest. Call it "antiharperbot.com"?
