Should Canada Bend Over/Stand Up to America?
jbg replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Certain parts of America have a "gun culture". Certain parts, such as where I live, do not. We're a big country with many cultures, all American, and none "multi". -
Why is it that people use the term "racist" when they disagree with a statement but can't find any back up to refute it?

I once asked an Albertan who posted on a forum I used to run what the difference was between the Hajj Stampede (the annual fatal stampede in connection with the "stoning the devil" ritual) and the Calgary Stampede. He responded that the "Calgary Stampede has: Good beer; Good looking women; and A good time had by all. The Hajj has none of those."

That would be icing.

My view is that if someone loves their goat, they should be allowed to have carnal relations with that goat, irrespective of gender. I believe anything less represents out-of-touch reactionary conservatism.

Then why are they making babies if they're too poor to afford them? The liberal programs in the United States, i.e. the ?War on Poverty? succeeded only in decreasing the incentives of poor people to remain married and working. Out-of-wedlock births soared during and after this period. During 1982, I worked as a legal assistant ina legal services program for the poor. This shows that I put action behind my words bout helping poor people. I was not being paid. During this time, the painter for one of the contractors engaged to rehabilitate slum housing in Westchester County, New York took a liking to a 13 year old girl in one of the apartments he was painting. Can anyone tell us why the 13 year old girl wasn?t in school, and wound up pregnant by the painter? Is this a worthwhile use of taxpayer and government money? The even-more-liberal attorney I was working under had, let us say, a very serious difference of opinion with me about this matter. I asked her what the 13 year old girl?s mother did for a living. She said ?she?s a mother?. If she was being a full time mother, then, how did her daughter wind up pregnant at the age of 13 by a painter? When liberals became uncomfortable with these questions I began to move to the right somewhat politically. Does anyone thing this is the only time a government program for the poor people has gone seriously awry. For example the legal service program sponsored organizational meetings for apartments that were seriously run-down. The goal was to obtain an administrator to replace the slumlord who was draining the buildings. My suggestion that the money that was due for rent be pooled so that the administrator, when appointed, would have some money to actually repair the buildings was hooted down derisively. The suggestion also cost me my volunteer position. Not really a loss though. That day, I learned I was passed the Bar, and began practicing law privately as a bankruptcy legal assistant (while awaiting formal admission) in January 1983, and was admitted to practice during early 1983. And what net gain did those legal services I helped provide give to the poor people? Probably none. My point in all of this is that poor people do things that doom them and, worse, their offspring to continuing and grinding poverty, such as ensuring the dwellings they inhabit are, by and by, ruined.

I say then get your ass to Afghanistan and start fighting. Sitting on your ass in front of your computer supporting western jihad is pretty cowardly. What would be your vote, to accept dhimitude?

Amen I would say, as far as the topic of this thread, both "amen" and "je me souviens".

Actually they were victims of a concerted attempt to exterminate every one of them which didn't come far from succeeding. And how much do Jews try to extract from the UN or Liberal governments as "compensation"? None that I know of, I just thought the use of the word "injustices" was a bit of an understatement. Quite obviously we're on the same page. I often understate rather than overstate. Just my lawyerly style.

I too find Harper's candor and overall style refreshing after Chretien and Martin.

I thought most speak Canadian.

Indeed, there is a 'stampede' almost evey year in Mecca, just too many people in too small a space. Every year, the Jews congregate for the High Holy Days. We typically have close to 1000 packed into relatively small spaces, with very small exits. Ever hear of the "post-Yom Kippur stampede"? Keep in mind, at the end of services, we haven't eaten or drank for 24 hours at least. Any stampedes out of there?

And what does that make Canadian and American politicians who depend on young soldiers willing to volunteer to 'spread the faith' (a.k.a democracy) with the end of a gun? I don't consider spreading freedom to be the same as spreading religious hate and violent oppression. You do? Some don't know the difference, or assume there is none. Thus, the term "moral relativism".
-
How's that different from the American "melting pot"? And by the way, what language did you learn if not Swedish, Canadian?

Please state how many people post-April 2003 leaders in Iraq have fed into woodchippers. -
Whatever language is commonly spoken in non-French Canada. For example, you sit on Chesterfields, not couches. You "lay-bour" quite hard, not "lay-boor". I assume you have your own language.

I puke everytime I read that. Don't you realize that they produce over 80% of the worlds' consumable and durable goods also? Do you really think if we consumed less, the people of Dharfur would consume more? Try: Some spelling and grammar would have served you, as well as learning a bit about the real world. How about realizing that their society was broken by smallpox spread by Spanish explorers a good 150 years before any Europeans came to and remained in what's now Canada? There was nothing, I mean literally nothing, left except a few broken, discouraged remnants of devastating epidemics. See Charles E. Mann's 1491. The Jews of WW II Europe suffered some "injustices". We haven't forgotten, but we've helped all of the countries that let us live in peace build. Why can't other so-called "victims"?

Yes, Mayor Miller. -
What's so funny about peace, love and understanding? As praiseworthy as it is, the Taliban and Saddam Hussein mock it. They understand one thing; death. As an Al Quaeda tape message left behind for the Spanish train attack said: "You love life, we love death". I say give them what they want; in spades.

You know you're losing an argument when you start flailing away with the name calling. Corporations are chartered under the authority of one of the fifthy states, or a foreign entity. The US government doesn't "impose" corporations. Corporations are fictitious legal entities created, usually, to operate a business. Most often, the corporate book resides on a shelf at a lawyer's office. Corporations normally don't make themselves into flesh and blood people and impose poverty and death on others. Unless you believe everything Numb Chimpsky writes.

As the only superpower I don't think we're likely to be terribly popular, ever. Time to hide the wife and daughter? (jk). What language did you conduct your dates in?

BUMP

jbg, Don't you think it's wrong to write off an entire group of people based on the actions of a few ? We haven't applied that to other religions or nations either. Here's my response, so typical of those people:
-
As Hamas did in the "Palestinian authority" and Hezbollah did in "Lebanon". The people elected monsters, and Israel is thus, arguably, within its rights in taking a few more liberties with collateral damage than if the government had been imposed on the people.
