  1. I have a question: Does our My Friends list have to be the same as our favorite posters list? A problem with the Quick Edit feature has been reported last week by one member but it was difficult to tell whether the problem was related to the forum software or the member's browser. I am replying right now to test this in a different way. I have Firefox, though I don't know if it's the latest version or not, but I don't have any problems editing posts.I have just updated my version of FireFox too on one of my computers and I will test the editing feature right now....----- Edit: .... well, it works for me. I used the Full Edit feature. Now, I will test the Quick Edit.... --- Edit: ... and it works for me too. ---- Edit: testing with my JavaScript turned off; if this text appears, the Edit function works. ---- Edit: testing Quick Edit; if this text appears, it works. The Edit function works. If you are having trouble with the editing, it is on your end. Not all browsers are created equally. Check that you have the latest version of JavaScript too. As for the multiple quote feature, it's been disabled-- you can only quote one quote the way the board is set up now.As before, there is a manual way of inserting multiple quotes. Now, the multiple quotes is no longer a default.
  2. with respect to the excessive quoting which runs rampant throughout the forum: Both situations are excessive and redundant quoting. Yes. Quoting should only be used when necessary. Let me flip your question around, can you not compose a reply which clearly identifies to what post or argument you are replying without repeating the entirety of that post or argument?
  3. The last dozen posts in this thread each repeat the entirety of the previous posts. Stop re-quoting entire posts.
  4. El.Mo. and Argus, Are you suggesting that the moderators should go back and edit or delete the posts of individual members when forum rules are violated?
  5. That is a good idea but it fails when a person starts a different thread based on entries from an old thread. I know it is a rare situation but it exists.
  6. Tough luck.--- It is nobody's place but that of the Moderators to discuss or inform anybody about how violations are addressed. I have said this before and I will say it again: if you believe a rule is broken, report and ignore it. Do not feed the flames or you will be treated in kind. Yes that is possible but that is for Greg, the Forum Administrator, to decide -- not me. Personally, I do not like the idea at all because that invariably leads to a personal attack nag-a-thon thread. Just take a look at any other online forum that has such a sub-forum. If such a thread were to be instituted, I would quit moderating. That is how much I disagree with it. Follow the forum rules -- which are quite simple and clear, I might add -- and you will be fine.
  7. The intention of this forum is not to sell newspapers or advertizing space.
  8. That is the bulk of what I am doing although I am actually trying to read more and more of the posts.
  9. This thread has degraded. Each of you who have fueled this adolescent trash-talk should be ashamed.
  10. You are correct. Your Opening Post t is not plagiarism because you provided full credit. I should have written << edited due to cross-posting >> in its stead. Cross-posting and opening a thread without any original contribution or commentary of your own is against this forum's guidelines.
  11. Fat? Ugly? Guys, stop with the absurd personal attacks.
  12. Replied here. Yes. Indeed, it may appear that way. When you encounter a forum violation, please report it. Remy, I have never laughed soooooo hard before reading your post up above in my whole experience in this forum. Just for more chuckles, part of me is tempted to convert this thread with this: as an Agree or Disagree poll.
  13. The "purpose of the edit explanation" is a feature included in more recent updates to this forum software. It is not contained in this current version. We may see that in the future. A re-working of the entire site is coming. Continue to use the "quote" feature but do not quote THE ENTIRE previous post. Just quote an appropriate and brief selection. Yes, I agree with you. I will specifically address this with Greg, the Forum Administrator -- he ultimately decides -- and plead this case.
  14. Everybody, smarten up and stop the personal attacks.
  15. Sigh. No! I am very serious about the quotes.
  16. Correct on both counts: a separate box appears and a separate email are sent. However, the separate box requires JavaScript to function and will not appear if JavaScript is turned off on the browswer. Some people actually have JavaScript turned off knowingly or unknowingly. All members should check their browser settings. [There are valid reasons for which JavaScript is disabled while surfing the internet. Those reasons are beyond the scope of this post. However, members who do not know what is JavaScript or how to find it in their browser settings, I emplore you to trust me on this: your internet technical abilities are severely deficient and it behooves you to learn more about the tools you use to exchange information on the web. I can not stress this enough.] Personally, I hate JavaScript but it is part of this forum software. The Personal Messaging system in the forum uses JavaScript to create that in-your-face message box. Previewing a post does NOT require JavaScript enabled. --- One of the constant challenges of Internet communication is cross-platform universality and differences in individual hardware/software combinations. Not everybody's computer reproduces websites the same. I have encountered members whose participation in the forums is diminished for technical reasons. For example, recently some members had trouble with the various aspects of the editing functions. The problem was resolved after the member updated the JavaScript in his browser. It was the member's browser that was the problem and there was nothing wrong with the forum software. --- Regardless of an individual's browser settings, forum Personal Messages and warnings can always be read by checking the top right-hand corner after one logs into the forum: Help Search Members Calendar My Controls · View New Posts · My Assistant · # New Messages
  17. Thank you for the well-wishes. I am actually looking forward to spending the future lurking and learning from you guys. Hmmm..... where to start? First, my opinions: 1) I really like The Rolling Stones too. However, I have paid very little attention to them after Wyman left. I liked them much more before Taylor left and I think they were their best before Altamont. 2) I despise the irresponsible and excessive repetition of quotes in quotes and quotes and quotes in quotes and quotes in quotes and quotes in quotes and quotes as exemplified by the last few replies in this thread. Now, for my postings, I encourage everybody to read the following threads: Using the [ Quote ] Feature: Avoid using more too many quotes! Trim Your Posts and Quotes -- Don't just hit "Reply" which go through details on how to tidy up the formatting. drawn from a different thread somewhere in the forum the exact location of which really does not matter Stay tuned. Soon, there will be Forum Facilitators on Maple Leaf Web and the progress will become, in my bold opinion, both obvious and envious.
  18. Boys, stop the nitter-nattering. Calling eachother "childish" and "partisan hack" is unnecessary. It does not matter who started it. This just escalates. Stop it now.
  19. One more general recommendation: To maintain civilized discussion and debate, if a member violates a forum rule, report it and leave it to a moderator to handle the violation. Do not take it upon yourself to feed any flames.
  20. Just you wait! Sooner or later, they will call you an anarchist! We will see how you like that!
  21. Stop the nitter-nattering. Use the Personal Messenger for personal communications -- if necessary. Better yet, use your own email service provider. This thread is also an abomination of the QUOTATION function as well.
  22. -- failure to follow forum rules. There really is nothing more that should be discussed publicly about any one particular member. Even banned members should be afforded that courtesy. -- Just a few general recommendations: - when the forum Administrator and Moderator give you a warning, follow that warning - warnings are delivered through the internal Personal Messaging system of the forum, not on a silver platter - if it is possible to post within the forum, it is possible to read Personal Messages - messages should be checked regularly by clicking on the New Messages link in the top right-hand corner of the page The discussion in the forums should not degrade until all members have checked their messages.
  23. There is useless extraneous quoting going on in this thread. Check out these threads: Using the [ Quote ] Feature: Avoid using more too many quotes! Trim Your Posts and Quotes -- Don't just hit "Reply" which go through details on how to tidy up the formatting. Some of you should go back and edit your posts. Sulaco, repeating the entire Opening Post is objectively wrong. You are the very first reply. There can not possibly be any doubt that you are replying to the Opening Post. Delete your quotation. Hollus and ScottSA, you two are creating a scroller-coaster eye-sore out of this thread. Go back and get ride of your repetitive quoting. ---- Some of you might find this previous thread Clerics at Mosques in England, Showing surprising tolerance to the west interesting.
  24. No, plagiarism is not permitted. When you encounter incidents of plagiarism, please Report the post and trust the moderators to deal with the offense.
  25. I am bringing these recent changes to Greg's attention for him to rule. This recent change is above me. Thus, the ability to edit a post still exists. It just comes with the notification. Personally, I do not like it either because it adds scroller-clutter. However, it avoids confusion if people respond to a post and the initial post is edited after the initial response. On the other hand, I believe as forum members we can rise above tit-for-tat he-said-she-said disputes. I agree. --- Yes, Mr. Test, up above is my recent dual login username. I just broke the forum rules.
