problems with Daylight Savings Time settings
Charles Anthony replied to ScottSA's topic in Support and Questions
You need to provide more information about how and when this occurs. For the time being (please accept the pun), you have to change your time zone settings -- either in the forum or on your browser. In the forum, try these two things: 1) go to your control panel and change the number of hours difference from Greenwich Meant Time; you are probably off by one hour 2) change your DST settings (from Off to On or from On to Off) -
We do not. There is certainly a way to reply to the Personal Messages and there always has been. There is a Reply button at the bottom of the screen and that Reply button looks the same as all the other Reply buttons. There may possibly be a deficiency in technical skills or computer platforms among the members of the forum. It was for this reason that the thread: Personal Messaging within the forum, check your folder routinely was posted. Each member must be responsible for using the features of the forum correctly themselves. The alternative is quite disorderly.

Why I'm voting Green Party October 10th
Charles Anthony replied to kengs333's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Everybody, Stop the personal attacks. This thread is degenerating into a painful nitter-natter session completely devoid of any political discussion. If you have no political discussion to contribute, do not post. If you have nothing but personal attacks, do not post. If you think that somebody else is trolling or violating a forum rule, send a report and describe the context but DO NOT retaliate with insults. -
Right now, it seems like you are in Outline mode. You need to change to Standard Display Mode. There are two ways to do this. 1) At the bottom of your screen, you probably see a line that resembles: Display Mode: Switch to: Standard · Switch to: Linear+ · Outline Click on the first one: Switch to: Standard 2) First, you must have JavaScript activated on your browser. In the top right corner, there should be a link that says: Options After clicking on it, you will be presented with a drop-down menu that will have: Display Modes > Switch to: Outline > Standard > Switch to: Linear+ Click on Switch to: Standard

Harper wants to see Afghan mission extended
Charles Anthony replied to trex's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Guys, Knock off the childishness. -
Everybody must routinely check their Personal Messages folder. In the top right corner of the forum display there is a line with a few links that resemble: My Controls · View New Posts · My Assistant · My Friends · 1,000,000 New Messages Click on the last link to view your messages. If you are sent more than one message, you will receive only one pop-up message. The other messages will stay in a queue but will only be viewable from your New Messages folder. If moderators need to communicate with you, they will send you a message and it will stored there. The onus is on the member to check their messages regularly. We have tested the messaging system through various combinations of computer operating systems and browsers. We have verified one constant: your messages are viewable in your New Messages folder until you delete them. If you are unclear about any technical aspect of the Personal Messaging system or anything else for that matter with the forum, feel free to contact any of the moderators either through the forum or by regular email or by replying directly in this thread. The contact information is listed in our profiles.

Neither. I think this new feature is disabled by default. I will let Greg confirm that himself. I do not think any "member rating other member" feature as you can find in other forums is helpful.

What exactly is wonderful about being "Blonde"
Charles Anthony replied to RB's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
The above exchange can continue through the Personal Messaging function if necessary. The public tit for tat is over. Please stay on topic throughout the rest of the thread. -
Everybody, Stop the off-topic banter and fueling your personal vendettas.
-
Guys, knock it off. The last few posts are filled with rude insults and personal attacks. If it continues, there will be suspensions.
-
To everybody who has participated in this thread: Stop the insults and stop the rude language and stop the personal attacks. This discussion is degenerating into childish nitter-nattering very rapidly.
-
This thread is degrading. Stop the insults and stop returning insults. When you encounter an insult or any forum violation, just report it and ignore it after that. Do not feed the flames by returning insults.

Everybody smarten up and stop the insults. When you encounter an insult or any forum violation, just report it and ignore it after that. Do not feed the flames by returning insults.

Permit me to interject with a point of order: There has been indirect accusation that a particular member is a re-registrant of a previously banned member. If and when you encounter such a rule violation, you are to send a Report to the moderation team and explain what you observe. Please avoid accusing other members directly in the threads of violating rules because it can inflame the discussions.

The moderators RARELY edit member posts without the consent of the member. When we do, we will cite a reason and we will send you a Personal Message stating so. You have probably gravely contravened the rules when this occurs. A moderator will edit a member's post without warning generally when time is of the essence or when it is spam. Here are some examples, any suspicion of: - personal information disclosed about an other member - something which can conceivably lead MLW into legal trouble - links to rude our objectionable material a post will be edited. Editing a thread title is a different matter because poor thread titles are transparent anyway and they reflect extremely poorly on the forum. Your beef was that you insisted on posting an insulting title for the purposes of insulting a person. You seem to think that your posts were edited too. They were not. Your silly inflammatory threads were merged with other silly inflammatory threads. All of the individual posts were left intact in chronological order. -- The irony is that this thread is actually evidence of that and I am sure that most members have been able to figure that out. For those who have not, the Opening Post of this thread was a botched Personal Message reply to a request to edit the botched title and Opening Insult of the What to with to much money thread. [incidentally, a thread written by a Righty to insult a Lefty.] The member was asked by a moderator to make corrections and remove the inflammatory "Left Layton" label on his own. Now, you know the rest of the story....

the next federal elections
Charles Anthony replied to flaquisimo's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Every member of the forum is welcome to remind eachother of the forum rules and to report any violations. The rules explicitly start with: You may read the rest here. We are expected to do better in the online discussions. If you believe an other member has violated the forum rules or guidelines, report it in turn. The Official Food Discussion Thread
Charles Anthony replied to jefferiah's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Sorry, guys. This is off-topic. -
You are referring to your Stephen Harper Greets the Other Amigos Wearing Khakis, The Prime Minister's appearance thread. I never said you broke any rules. I changed your "Steve" to "Stephen" for the sake of accuracy and your "fat slob" to "appearance" in a wishful attempt to avoid fostering an inflamatory non-political discussion and to increase the chances of somebody finding that thread in the event that they were looking for a well-balanced discussion of the Prime Minister's appearance. Stop with the insults. Furthermore, as BC_2004 pointed out, third party insults directed towards political parties are against the forum rules too. You are referring to our interchange where I helped you sort out some problems you had formating quotes in this post last year. I walked you through the entire edits. After you thanked me for helping you clearly present your political arguments with the layout of the quotes, I said: "When it comes to online forums, I hate bad formatting more than anything else -- even more than I hate socialists!!!!" just to tease you. Be my guest and show the screen-shot of that message to anybody you want. I still have all of those messages and your replies stored in my PM mailbox. Feel free to discuss this amongst yourselves.

Can the NDP make any gain this time?
Charles Anthony replied to Topaz's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
The first two responses to this thread have repeated the Opening Post in its entirety with the quoting function. That is both unnecessary and a forum rule violation. Go back and edit that redundant quote out of your post. Surely, there is no doubt that you guys are responding to the Opening Post. Edit Post Notice and the -

Editing Function / Post Edited Line
Charles Anthony replied to August1991's topic in Support and Questions
I think of it as an incentive or the current market price. This sounds like a technical issue: Please elaborate. Where do you need to click twice? -
Coincidence? Yes, that is a possibility. However, at the time of that post, I was actively participating in the politicial discussions. Now, I do not. Previously, as forum facilitator, my duties did not involve issues where political biasmade a difference. Identifying spam or excessive quoting is generally quite objective. Although, there will always be a sneaky exception that makes one want to go: "Hmmm...." N.B.: Every single member is welcome to report violations of the forum rules. I did so at the time as a regular member too. Ultimately, it was Greg who decided and acted as a moderator. Now, I have discretionary powers to act upon forum violations. For example, if: - a member is being rude - a post or thread is off-topic - threads ought to be merged I am expected to send offenders a formal warning or merge threads, without requesting Greg's approval first. Currently, I am not authorized to suspend or ban a member. Thank you. I, in turn, am practicing the discipline of buttoning my lip and paying closer attention to everybody else's contributions. As a result, I am learning much more about politics than I ever did before. You might be able to find me trolling elsewhere on the web!
-
There has been baiting in this thread and elsewhere in the forum. The discussion in this thread degenerated into personal attacks against fellow members and third parties. All of this must stop. I will be blunt: focus the discussion on politics and follow the forum rules. Otherwise, suspensions will be issued without warning.

Universities will provide Muslim footbaths
Charles Anthony replied to jbg's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
The two threads have been merged. As with all merged threads, all of the posts have been preserved in chronological order. One generic thread title replaces the previous one.
