  1. In fantasyland. The U.S. has been dealing with Islamists for years its true. Its where they get their arms and support. Those world records in arms sales don't sell themselves. There has to be a demand for the supply and Islamists have proved an unending market for US arms. If the plan is to turn Syria into the next Afghanistan and Iraq that can be arranged as long as the strategy of divide and conquer and making away like bandits with oil profits and weapons sales continues. Its sad there are certain elements in Canada that want to go down that road. I advise doing a little research into colonial history and the war crimes associated with it. I loathe the day that Canada becomes just another nation built on war crimes, and plundering. Its capable of so much more, but there are certain Canadians who are too greedy and narrow minded for that.
  2. Harper and their ilk are traitors selling the rights to Canada's resources off to the highest bidder for the advantage of a small group of investors and right wing ideologues.
  3. Have either used such weapons? No right. So all the war mongering is just that war mongering.
  4. p.s. we've all heard of the wmd schtick before. It would be nice if people learned from history rather than acting with the memory of a goldfish and repeating the same stupid mistakes over and over again every few years.
  5. Invading Syria would be incredibly stupid. Canada in conflict with Russia and Iran would be the epitome of stupid.
  6. Great the right wing is virtually giving away Canada's resources and jobs to China, and then rewarding their ideologues like the former radio hack Ralph Klein with the order of Canada.
  7. Your paranoia about the communist party is time warped to the 40s and 50s. It is absurd. Are you sure you're living in the 21st century?
  8. Democracy doesn't prevent the people from voting against democracy. My preferred version of PR is one that includes constituencies. It is as follows; Voting is based on proportional Representation. Voting is done by riding. The total number of seats will be divided by the overall percentages of votes for each party, and seats will be allotted based on those. Should an independent receive the highest vote percentage in a riding, then the independent will be given a seat federally. The seats are allotted per party based on the party members who received the most votes, or alternatively the highest percentage of votes from their ridings. (All ridings will be divided nationally so as to have the same number of voters.) An added preference: All MPs can put forth bills and all MPs vote on them. Cabinet positions are chosen first by nomination for position requiring a certain set number of signatures, and finally by vote by all the members. A complaint I have about current constituencies iss that district maps are drawn up arbitrarily sometimes intentionally Machiavellian in the way they are created so as to optimize a party's elected members. They ensure uneven electoral victories often based on the arbitrary lines on a map.
  9. 1940s and 50s style Mccarthyism pretty sad mentality for the 21st century.
  10. Yes its established that you'd prefer voices to be silent. That's not what democracy is about.
  11. Which just happens to be the majority of the population. Its the best solution for democracy.
  12. A democracy literally means rule of the people in Greek. If only a third of the people who vote are electing the government. Then its not a democracy. Its an oligarchy, the rule of the few. We don't have a democracy in Canada. In fact we still have a constitutional monarchy. We have a long way to go in order to overcome authortiarians who wish to prevent Canada from being democratic.
  13. Its nice to hear right wing authoritarians getting together and trying to keep voices out of a supposedly democratic country.
  14. Proportional Representation is the best solution to the divide and conquer tactics of the right.
  15. " Maybe the future criteria to participate in debate must have at least 12 seats (party status)." That's anti-democratic. The last time the corporations tried to ban the greens from the debates, the greens elected their first member.
  16. Why not if the left forms a coalition, it should be first priority.
  17. With proportional representation, it wouldn't required to shooting your candidate in the foot strategically.
  18. I'm from Victoria and voted Green. I'm ecstatic by the result. I had no idea they were going to do so well. With this momentum Victoria may be the 2nd constituency to elect a Federal Green MP. The constituency that elected the 1st is right next door.
  19. The poll results aren't that surprising. The most hardcore con centers of Alberta politics work like the red states do in the states. The R voters are concentrated in the rural areas, while urban areas with higher levels of education like Dallas and Houston vote surprisingly heavily democrat. This poll is a perfect example of how the Demos is getting underrepresented by the lack of proportional representation.
  20. There are plenty of social democracies that are democratic. Germany and Australia for example both have democratic election systems, which ensure the representation of the Demos.

  22. The problem is the lack of proportional representation. Most canadians vote, left, but the right runs the government with a minority of votes simply, because of the lack of proportional representation. It is not democratic to have a minority of those who voted running the country. The conservatives although a minority are good at divide and conquer, and they have a system, which allows them to get away with it, to the disadvantage of the Demos, who aren't being represented to the same degree.
