What Happens When Government Runs Out Of Money
blueblood replied to Big Guy's topic in Business and Economy
No the dutch disease was when people thought oul would never fall. However new tech has accomplished that. Even still its floating north of 50$ which 12 years ago was a lot of money. However what to diversify to? China and mexico are lower cost manufacturing and our unions priced ourselves out of that market and the service industry needs some kind of production to service instead of how the americans did it 10 years ago by essentially indebting themselves to oblivion. Simple economics say that canada is most efficient at bringing natural resources into production unless people in eastern canada are willing to take a paycut. The times of chinese and mexicans living as peasants is over... -

Post ww1 germany tried to take a shortcut out by printing money and a fat lot of good it did them. As for debt forgiveness in 1953, not all the debt was forgiven and it was a strategic move with influence from the usa to essentially buy west germany as an ally in the cold war. Essentially like credit card companies and clients having to come to some sort of agreement to reshape the debt so that something gets paid. I can see your point on something having to be negotiated like ireland keeping its 12.5% corporate tax rate. However the party is over in greece and there will be some austerity to cover the debt costs yet allow for as you said ability to grow economy to pay off said debt. Perhaps we might be seeing some naval bases in greece in the near future. -

It is controversial in that shes saying essentially its all right to not pay your debts when other people are essentially bankrolling your lifestyle. Its like waiting to get paid back for loaning your friend a couple hundred bucks and finding out they went on vacation! -

Ive heard that fairy tale when ignatieff and layton were campaigning against harper before the election. Everyone said to worry about the debates and how harper would do with an ivy league professor. not the first time the tories have been behind in the polls...

Its a good point. However one knows that getting financing is pretty hard without loans with interest, it took the dark ages to figure that one out. -

Personally i think krugman is a fool, a nobel prize winning fool. The bond vultures were coming and the bills still had to get paid. Ireland is an exporting country yet it is getting itself out of its mess by austerity and a low rate yet still using the same currency. Things will be better in canada when ceta goes into affect and the tpp is hammered out. -

15 to 10% is a nice drop plus it has nice growth. Like i said early stages. Looks like austerity working. heck even the liberals of the 90s had to go through some austerity when the bond vultures come calling. Worked pretty good for us... -

The Unnanounced Class War

Fail, going to the bank and asking for a loan you can't afford is like asking the robber to come in and rob your house. -
The Unnanounced Class War
blueblood replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
What about him? I look at a house as an expense, not an investment. That's buddy's first mistake. Does a house produce anything? I live in a tiny house built in the 1950s, why would I want to go blow money on a palace when I do t have to? You cannot have a commodity that rises in perpetuity in a straight line, that's ridiculous and impossible. Every commodity has to correct in order for people to buy in and realize a profit. For every buyer there has to be a seller. At some point the price gets too high and people quit buying in. Ordinary person should know that investing in a house that doesn't produce anything is a stupid idea. Ordinary person should know that commodities don't rise in perpetuity, an ordinary person should realize that if they make 50k per year that a 400k house is a bad idea. Heck even buying a 400k house at a 400k per year is preposterous.
