$1 billion Federal Aid Package & Employment - Why?
blueblood replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Alberta has also gotten a nice hand up from the government as well. If it weren't for the pro-business policies of the government, where would Alberta be? The NDP accuses the feds of offering subsidies to the oil companies which enables them to make money and provide jobs and boost the economy. -
I don't mind the holiday, they named it after a traitor is the problem I have with it.
-
So the ends justify the means. There are way more other people far more worthy of having a day named after them than a blasted traitor and a murderer. That would be like the United States celebrating Jefferson Davis day.
-
On Monday Feb. 18th Manitoba will be celebrating Louis Riel Day. I am embarrassed to be a Manitoban because of this. What has this country come to when we are celebrating a traitor and an individual responsible for the deaths of brave mounted police officers and Canadian soldiers.

Is the judge going to sit in the cruiser and say no you can't stop the car? Is the case going to be thrown out because he had a crappy reason to stop the car? Yes It's all about convincing the judge. That's what court is for, to argue the case after the fact. The cop does not have court going on in his head, he does his job and has to answer for it.

Interview with Senate Speaker, Noël A. Kinsella

What would your ideas be for improving accountability in the Senate? Should Senators be subject to parliamentary review and possible dismissal? -
He shouldn't have to pay financial restitution after his release. That would drive him to commit crimes in order to pay for it which could result in more axe attacks. I'd like to see the dangerous offender designation be applied, but due to the huge costs involved with jailing prisoners that won't happen. If jails aren't profitable, don't expect to be seeing too much harsh sentances, there's no money in it.

I heard Dion wants to shut her down on MDL, and his caucus is divided on the issue. I don't know why the NDP and the Bloc would want an election, given that the populace might be sick of minority gov'ts and those two logjamming parliament. I think if it did come down to an election campaign, it would be hard to be swayed by the polls. (I don't like them during campaigns as it gives the impression of "pushing" some people to vote one way.) Best speech and campaign will win it.

Canada was not a police state before the Charter and is not one now. The cops in Canada are in a fishbowl and don't have room to do much of their job. The cops could stop that vehicle for any reason at all, even just to check if the driver has a liscence or not, just remember the cop has to take his case to court and convince a judge if the person he caught is guilty or not. A lot of the time people get immediately released because they have no case.

With all of these polls, they are going to be running out of people to call I think it's all down to who runs the best campaign and who has the best debate, how it should be.

United Nations begs to Stay the Course in Afghanistan
blueblood replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I was merely responding to the article. The article seems aimed at Canada and in my opinion is suggesting that we should not pull out. I also agree with the article in that since our troops are already there they should do their job, do it fast, and do it well. I was saying tell it to the Europeans as they are the ones who need to hear this article. They are the ones blabbing about it's America's war etc. They're the ones who are neglecting their G8 status etc. as you were eluding to. What gives the European's the right to be lazy while the Canadians are doing most of the work? -
$1 billion Federal Aid Package & Employment - Why?
blueblood replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
For the record I don't approve of the 1.5 billion investment, rock bottom taxes are a better way of doing things. What I am suggesting is not socialism, it is a way of prolonging our oil reserves, creating an industry that provides jobs so we don't have people on welfare, so we can have lower taxes. I am forced to burn low sulfur diesel fuel, why can't others burn some ethanol? A majority of farmers want the Wheat Board when it's convenient for them in a full free market where they can choose to go with or without the wheat board when it best suits them. If your worried about duties being slapped on wheat because of the WTO, then we'll pay the damn things or use the grain ourselves, we are the 5th largest exporter of grain, if others want to play games like that they can go without. China charges a 9% tariff on Canola. The WTO thing is concerning Canada is hypocrisy anyways; Canola and the other grains for export don't fall under the CWB, yet Wheat and Barley do. Why should one grain be excluded and others included. Why does Ontario get to export it's grain without paying duties? IMO the WTO already allows the state trading in a non single desk market. -

You also say that when lowering corporate taxes in Alberta is a subsidy for the oil industry. Well we are forced to use the CWB whether we want to or not and those ethanol consumers are not going to be faced with jail time. We're also forced to use low sulfur diesel fuel and put catalytic converters on all exhaust. What's a little ethanol? So what if the gov't helps out with these plants, they get the money back through taxes and a strengthened economy. That's why the gov't invests in businesses, it makes economic sense. It's also why shareholdes invest in corporations, what's wrong with the gov't being a shareholder? Is it not allowed to make money and reduce taxes across the board? -

So lowering taxes for corporations/small business is bad when the oil industry/ethanol industry benefit from it, but when the manufacturing (automakers for instance) sector benefits from it, it's good. If that's a Liberal position on things, I'm confused. That's their position on lots of other things. -

In one of your previous posts you were suggesting to lower corporate taxes, but when myself or August is suggesting that for a wood chip ethanol or grain ethanol industry you are crying out subsidies and stuff, why the double standard on lowering taxes? -

Reducing taxes for companies shouldn't result in trade action from NAFTA and the WTO. -
Double Standards and Hypocracy in the USA.

I don't know if Bush murdered millions of people, I'm no Bush fan but I believed he thinks he was defending his country and as a leader of a country he has every right to deal with threats any way he sees fit, it's up to history to judge him. The Clinton thing was him lying and a GOP controlled congress holding accountable, nobody really wanted to hold GW to this kind of accountability. If you want to see a tit there are channels for that, I also don't think there should be gore like that on TV as well. As for sexuallity being taboo, it's part of Western culture as long as it's been around. It's about controlling urges in order to get the job done. In case you haven't realized we all have a pretty damn good life because of it. I wouldn't worry if I was in your shoes as far as sexuality goes, the stuff they get away with showing and talking about on TV is much more liberal than in the 50's, take Grey's Anatomy for example, that show would not exist in the 50's, but the amount of sleeping around that goes on in the doctor's office frustrates me as a taxpayer, I am paying healthcare professionals to take care of people not whore themselves on the job. -
Toronto School Board eyes "Afro-centric" school
blueblood replied to g_bambino's topic in Local Politics in Canada
I was defining standard as the provincial cirricula set by the provinces ed minister. I also know there is no ed minister in canada. I don't think denominational schools should be funded publically. If the Afrocentric school follows the base cirricula and other special interest schools are publically funded then obviously it would have to go. Funding special interest groups is generally not fiscally conservative and i'm surprised you support this. -

Who cares? We're supposed to piss away rural economic growth because of your ego?? 15 dollars/ bushell wheat and 13.25 canola. And some extra oil for export. Do that for the trees and we get even more oil for export. So people are supposed to go unemployed and live off of social services because some people say that job is wrong? -

blueblood replied to g_bambino's topic in Local Politics in Canada
When they choose a standard public school, that's where the money goes. Tax dollars should not be used to fund special interest schools that's for private money. The thing of it is that schools cost a lot of money to set up and run, when it is set up for special interest groups, their slice of the pie taxdollar wise wouldn't cut it as far as setting up a special school, this is why they need to be private so that the people who won't be attending won't get gyped on their taxes. Everyone pays school taxes for schools and our public schools are geared towards the diversity of everyone by sticking to a strict cirriculum that puts no special interest group above another. I don't care if a black school opens, just not on the taxpayers dollar. This again is why private schools exist in the first place. The local school board does not set the cirriculum, that job falls to the minister of education and his/her lackeys. -

I'm not supporting a billion dollar cheque, I think that's nuts as well. I think the better way of helping out is to find another use for that excess wood which can be achieved by tax cuts for R&D and for start up companies using the wood, if that means burning the wood than so be it. Quebec gets richer and has another product for export. Remember costs are not the only thing that goes up with inflation, our dollar rises, and our wages rise as well. -

nice spin. Why should we contribute to these people being unemployed and lazy? Why shouldn't Quebecer's be allowed to work? It's funny how you try and bring down having a good economy with inflation. The more wealth generated is good for the country. Deflation is a much worse problem than inflation. If inflation is such a problem in Quebec, that half assed gov't can lower taxes and their minimum wage/labor laws so people can keep more of what they earn. The americans do this and they have lower gas prices and cheaper goods.
