Toronto School Board eyes "Afro-centric" school
blueblood replied to g_bambino's topic in Local Politics in Canada
We're not debating whether or not faith/race schools should be banned. If people want to set up a school that has a class saying that we should worship cats that's fine, but we as taxpayers should not be funding this "adventure". They can pay for their special schools out of their own pocket. The fact that faith/race schools are even allowed to exist in Canada shows our tradition of accomodation. -
Toronto School Board eyes "Afro-centric" school
blueblood replied to g_bambino's topic in Local Politics in Canada
Now for the million dollar question, would non-black kids be allowed to go to this school should their parents for whatever reason want them to? There is freedom of choice already and we don't need more, if you don't like the education your kid gets in a public school, you can pull him/her out and privately educate them whether its a tutor or private school. -
Supremacist group praises Liberal MP's proposal

Using the same logic as the legalization of marijuana, the neo-nazis already exist and spread messages of hate, being illegal or not is not going to stop them. There is already laws in place for dealing with the uttering of threats, which the neo-nazis also do. This law is a good idea. If you get offended suck it up. Offend the neo-nazis back. -

Wrong, the taxpayers in Canada are paying for a standard childcare program that was set up by the government, this is it like it or lump it. This program just happens to have freedom. If taxpayers want better childcare, they can fork more money over for daycare space. Taxpayers also pay for a standard school. I'd almost suggest having to do that then if we are getting all of these different flavors of schools. That would make a lot more sense and freedom to give the subsidy to parents instead of fund faith based and race based schools. This is why private schools exist in Canada and we have two-tiered education. This bureaucracy is saying that Torontonians are being forced to fund race/faith based schools, one Torontonian on here has a big problem with that, this isn't taking any power from the bureaucracy. -
Harper gives Bush ultimatum on troops
blueblood replied to Alexandra's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Right off the gun I didn't agree to this war, but since we have troops in there I am not about to go undermine what they do and hope they do a good job and get it done. -
Well some lefties spent a pile on huge militaries as well. The USSR and China come to mind, their proxy wars with the states weren't free either. Yah I'd say that's one problem with big gov't spending. GW is dropping money like it's hot, like a so-called left winger. A fiscal conservative would say geez that war in Iraq is costing a pile of money, too much. I don't know what GW will get for a return on his "war investment"

I agree. Don't fascists also bash religion too...

Dion to apologize to Dimitri Soudas or get sued
blueblood replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dion can say whatever he wants, no need to go to court and tattle like whining five year olds. If he flubbed up, the electorate will hold him accountable. -

And those cars are not being provided by the government and we pay for those differences. A big chunk of my property tax goes to ed. Plus being a fair size landowner, the schools get lots of funding from me. All other property owners pay taxes, there should be and is a school provided by the government to most fairly suit everyone and churn out productive members of society. You want more or something different, pay for it out of your own pocket, a backwoods hick shouldn't foot the bill because someone feels entitled to go to a special school. I'm all for choices, but one should also pay for their choices. Some people out in B.C. gladly pay tens of thousands of dollars to send their kid to private school because they want a "better" education for their kids, should tax payers be funding schools like that?? They all end up learning the same cirriculum and can get into the same Canadian universities depending on how smart they are. -

But all the provincial governments say that students have a standard to meet. The government is also providing education at the taxpayers expense. The best way to get the most bang for the taxpayers buck is the regular public school where no one is special and everyone is equal, it is also the most fair. My tax dollars should not be going to a school where students are excluded or there is a lack of education. We have a two-tier education in Canada, and it is working well. Everyone comes out with a standard, and if you are willing to pay, you get the standard and then some. In short you should get what you pay for. I should not have to fund a french immersion school in an english town, but if I lived in a french town then little junior is going to have to pick up some french. -
Harper gives Bush ultimatum on troops
blueblood replied to Alexandra's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I didn't agree to the war in the first place, but since they are there now, they should do their jobs and do them well and as quickly as possible. Our army should get more credit than that, it is defeatist attitudes like that which result in wars getting lost and enables real bad people to do real bad things, Germany anyone... Have you checked out the kill ratio's over there? The Taliban are getting cleaned out. Also why is the Liberal Party split on the issue? I was alluding to Harper's political strategy in General and how he has his opponents boxed into a corner. The Liberals are sitting on their hands and the longer the tories are in power the better they look. With this Manley report, Harper can now go to NATO and tell them to send more troops or he pulls the plug. He has the Liberals boxed in by agreeing with a report by a prominent Liberal and he has NATO boxed in by threatening to pull the plug and take pot shots at the lazy NATO countries at his leisure. If Canada pulls out of the South, and it goes to hell in a handbasket, Harper puts the blame squarely on NATO for doing a half assed job. -
Federal Tax Reform: A Serious CTF Proposal

The rich white farmers left Zimbabwe, no were forced out because of catering to the poor. How's that country doing these days?? -

Up goes the property tax out east again... As for hearing/seeing impaired, those students don't have the choice of having a harder go at it and should get public funds to help out. The others are just as fine and able as the rest of them. That situation in Toronto would garner a tax revolt out west. It has happened already for the paltry problem of property taxes being too high, which hurts schools with less money. (Which I think is ridiculous as if you go to school you should pay for your education in one way or another) -
Federal Tax Reform: A Serious CTF Proposal
blueblood replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
A flat tax is perfect for funding the government operations and that's all we need to do. If the poor want to have a hokey little revolution, they would be smacked around. If you keep picking at the rich too much, you'll get a revolution on the other side. A couple of years ago in Saskatchewan, there was very high taxes out in the country and a large number of farmers staged a tax revolt and it caused problems over there. Piss off the rich, and they'll say screw this country we'll take our money elsewhere. Where would the poor be then, up shit creek. As to countering revolution, that's what the police and army are for. -
I heard that Japan was a big time industrial state back in the day, and it needed secure and cheaper resources to power it's growth. What better way to get secure and cheap resources than having it in your own backyard. I don't think Japan was in the first World War but was quickly becoming a superpower nonetheless. They smacked the Russians around in and around that time frame.

Harper gives Bush ultimatum on troops
blueblood replied to Alexandra's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Jeez, Harper is not only playing master strategist at home, he's now doing it on the international stage. He's doing to NATO, what he's doing to Dion. HE has their nuts in a vice. Well played Harper, he can't lose. -

blueblood replied to g_bambino's topic in Local Politics in Canada
Being as your from TO, is this a publically or privately funded school? If it were public I'd have a problem with my tax dollars being used to fund racism, but if it's private then they can have any school they want, provided they follow the rules laid out by the minister of education et. all. The Catholic schools the next big town over are all privately funded mainly by the big time farmers. -
As much as you'd think we live in a dictatorship, I'd hate to burst your bubble and we don't. That defies logic and reasoning. If you think 25+ million Canadians are going to keep putting up getting cheated out of their money by the first nations, that is fallacy. The fact that land claims are even being discussed is a sheer example of the majority of Canadian's genorosity and benevolence. The majority makes the rules, the majority gave first nations their special rights, and they can take them away as well.

Bingo, it would seem that some posters do not grasp the simple concept of democracy. Keep up these ridiculous demands and consequences could come. The charter is written in ink and can be changed. Piss off the 20+ million other Canadians who bankroll their little social experiment and see what happens. Land was expropriated, get over it. The people of Canada make the law and set the rules, not Trudeau's half assed idea. We should take a look at what happened in the Ukraine with the Orange Revolution and in Serbia with Slobodan Milosevic being chased out of his palace while the police did nothing as the consequences of pissing off the majority of a country's citizens.

Drug Testing in Schools - Thoughts?
blueblood replied to Community Advocate's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Just one question, how about the people that don't do drugs just because they are illegal? If booze was illegal, I wouldn't drink. There are some people who just follow the law, what about them. I only think it should be illegal as a matter of principle, if it were legal we'd be having a fight similar to this in 20-50 yrs. concerning cocaine should be legal. If you feel so oppressed, might I suggest emigration? Just because pot is illegal it is not stopping you from getting high either. Why waste parliament's time and money passing a law. -
How much "airspace" does a landowner own?
blueblood replied to Moonlight Graham's topic in Political Philosophy
They may have the right to pull up next to you on the end of your dock in public waters, but you have the right to be a pest... reminds me of an icefishing adventure. My shack is all alone in a spot in the lake. All alone for a reason, we don't like company fishing, and most people respect that. There is a little fish shack town at one part of the lake, for people who like people around. Both spots are just as good. Anyhoo, this one individual comes and parks his shack 3ft within ours, just because the shack was ginormous and could block the wind. that was irritating in itself considering it's a big lake and there's enough space etc. So I would just put down my walleye carcasses down the hole and there would be jackfish all over the place, listening to the other guy none the wiser complaining about jackfish was hilarious. He still wouldn't leave, but the whole time he was there he would drill holes every twenty minutes 3ft within our shack until the immediate area looked like swiss cheese. Now my friend has a five year old girl who likes to skate and not listen to old guys get beered up, so we cleared some ice for her, having 12+ inch holes in random spots is pretty dangerous. After stepping in one myself, I impolitely told the jackass to leave. he left but left his shack there, needless to say his shack wound up on shore. He could have tried to move mine, but he'd need a tractor. After his shack wound up on shore he never bothered us again, and when the DNR came, all we said we got rid of a what we thought was an abandonned shack that posed a fire hazard. If I was in your position, I'd winch in the houseboat to my dock and chain it there. "Oh darn you were floating out there, I thought you were in distress and I was thinking about your safety and keeping the boat intact". That should get rid of your little pest, have some fun with it. -
Oh that evil cult of Christianity, all they do is evil Pope John Paul II pressuring the USSR for freedom of speech/religion in Poland. Oh he's so evil The monsignor at the Vatican who saved all those lives of persecuted jews in Italy during nazi occupation. Those evil christian bastards The Christian Children's Fund that helps out the poor kids in Africa. Evil I tells ya

Is Manley running again. I am no Liberal supporter, but a good member in the house of commons is good to have.

This is getting out of hand. This is getting into hypocrisy land. Making people feel bad because they are Christian is completely classless and reprehensible. Your issue should be with the nuts woman and not Christianity. There are a whole mess of Christians that have probably done a lot more good in this world than you could ever hope to do, and to bring them down just because they are Christian is proposterous. This kind of behavior is no better than Billy Graham forcing evangelism down people's throat and saying people should embark on a crusade. To get mad at some Christians for forcing their religion on people, while at the same time you push drugs and athiesm on people is complete hypocrisy. There are lots of Christians who are tolerant and who wouldn't push their religion on anybody. To crap on Christianity makes you the same as someone who would crap on Islam. Take your agenda with individuals who cross the line, not what people believe in. Shame.

Federal court throws out "Charter rights" case
blueblood replied to g_bambino's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Nope the Queen is still the Head of state for Canada and any country still in the commonwealth. It was sort of a stipulation in letting Canada become a country without a war with the redcoats.
