Why Harper won't get a majority, and why it matters
blueblood replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That sums up what I said, just more articulately. -
Liberals and NDP fanning the flames
blueblood replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The only fear I have, is the Harper campaign has been asleep at the switch and Canadians by the boatfull are listening to Dion's toaster. This fear mongering is a train wreck for commodities. The Conservatives needed a salesman, Harper is no salesman. Too bad, he might be right. -

Why Harper won't get a majority, and why it matters

A poor person has as much right to a 300 000 dollar house as I have the right to replace my entire fleet of machinery with new machinery every year. It results in being in deep trouble with the bank. Life's not fair, deal with it. Do you not understand that even with established wealth you have to have a good head on your shoulders otherwise it gets squandered. MC Hammer got extremely wealthy and look what happened to him. When will you admit that when someone who pays as much GST as a wage earner's income tax is spending more (which boosts the economy). Why should I be punished for making good financial decisions, good management decisions, working hard, and not squandering my money? I have seen farms start up from bank loans that have prospered and I have seen some that were passed down that went broke. Your established wealth theory holds as much water as a wicker basket. I'll tell you right now a tax break to someone such as myself helps out the economy far more than a single wage earner getting a tax break. That having been said, the wage earner should get a tax break, he knows how to spend his money better than the government as do I. Tax cuts all around are better for the economy. The NDP wants to pick and choose who gets tax cuts and punish people for getting ahead. The government of Venezuela has the same attitude towards people who succeed as you do. Which average citizen has the better standard of living? -
The gripe I have on the tory campaign is that he said to Canadians at christmas the economy was headed for trouble, he was the leader most trusted with the economy at the start of the election, the campaign team got lazy in my opinion and let the opposition run with it instead of keeping the pressure up. He could say he has a plan, and the plan could amount to whatever party strategists come up with. If I was on the Liberal side, I wouldn't be happy with the NDP surge, that needs to be addressed.

Why Harper won't get a majority, and why it matters

What your are seeing happening in the economy is exactly what happens when the rich suffer. When the business owners suffer they can't pay their workers and the problem cascades. What happened was because of democrats FORCING banks to give loans to poor people. If we'd have let the poor people live in apartments and cheap houses like they should, we wouldn't be in this mess. Having Layton and Dion put more taxes on businesses will be the nail in the coffin. Businesses will leave. I hope the NDP has a plan for providing jobs in the civil service sector. The Chretien and Martin Liberals understand it, and if they weren't the Liberal party I'd consider voting for them as an alternative to the tories if they mess up. The tories have made tax cut after tax cut which means more money in the pockets of everyone. Taking money from the rich and giving it to the poor is proposterous and a recipe for economic disaster. Why the NDP wants Canada to become Venezuela is beyond me. That country has a punish the rich attitude and look at the crap hole it turned out to be. If anything Layton is the biggest threat to Canada. -
As a tory supporter, I'm upset at how poorly this campaign was run. The platform needed to be out earlier, and they focused too much on the Liberals instead of destroying the Bloc, where were the Duceppe attack ads??? The tories were to comfortable and too confident and it shows in their poorly run campaign. Harper will be lucky to keep the same amount of seats. We'll be back to this in no time. The tory party needs a change. Harper is a good strategist, not a good orator. Perhaps an overhaul of this campaign team as well. Not happy.

I agree, Harper needed a strong French language debate, he went on cruise control in the wrong debate. Harper knew the economy was going to be in rough shape, he said it a while ago at Christmas time. It's all down to who can sell to voters what the best strategy to deal with it is. It's hard for Harper to have a strategy when he doesn't have a platform. Harper should be figuring out the best way to give a crash course in economics and take the wind out of Layton and Duceppe's sails.

the libs are doing better in quebec. shows what a good debate does.

Harper accepts gift of fancy cowboy boots from Bush

NAFTA, which was for the betterment of all Canadians by making us a richer country. -
Another election doesn't bode well for the Liberals either, it would make for an even stronger NDP. Harper should have dropped the writ in June when the greenshift was announced. And he threw away his chance to throw Duceppe in his place. The other party's plans for the economy are far worse than Harper's, and Harper is pissing away prime campaigning time to waste time with his family. Harper would almost be better off blowing up his campaign and letting the opposition bear the brunt of this economic mess. Tory brass must not be impressed with this campaign. Harper needs a knockout and fast. Harper needs Mario Dumont and his corner to win Quebec and that is not happening.
-
If Harper gets a minority, parliament is going to be a bigger gong show than it was last year. Harper had the chance to light up Duceppe in the French debate. That didn't happen. Harper I think needs Dumont's help to win Quebec, and that isn't happening. With a stronger more powerful NDP in a minority gov't and a stronger Bloc, I can see someone like Baird sharpening his knife.

Better late than never... I don't see Chretien or Martin man enough to own up to their gifts even though they were late. Lateness doesn't matter, the fact of the matter is they were owned up to. -
Conservatives fear N.L. wipeout in federal election
blueblood replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Probably not, but it did change when Mulroney tried his constitutional pandering to Quebec. -
Do you have any proof of actually who did it? Do you not know how the justice system works? This could have been anybody, to assume it's automatically conservatives is just flat out lunacy, fear mongering, and hypocracy considering leftists are all about due process.

People in glass houses shouldn't be casting stones. The Liberals are just as guilty.

They have a say when they are shareholders. There is also the competition bureau. There are two instances right there. -
Disenchanted with Liberals, Conservatives & NDP?

If the NDP thinks its going to win based on these ridiculous conspiracy theories, no wonder 80% of Canadians reject that party. Does an NDP membership include a roll of tinfoil??? -

Population doesn't matter. I personally only have a choice of 3 outlets, one of them being gov't funded. I go to the states, I get more choices. There used to be a lot of choices in Canada, but they merged under the protection of the CRTC, look how big bellglobemedia is. -

blueblood replied to BC_chick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
5 is more than 3, therefore there is more competition in the states. Let the big 5 come north and we can have 8. And much better TV to go along with it. The Canadian 3 are abusing the protection the gov't has given to them. Open up the doors. -

There is a lot more competition in the US, in Canada there is only 3 companies of relevance, one of them government owned. Open the door and let more players in. -

Why Harper won't get a majority, and why it matters
blueblood replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Hell yeah we're willing to play ball, do you see two centre right parties fighting for seats in Western Canada??? There could just as easily be two centre right parties, but Westerners decided that our point was made and two parties are irrelevant. Because of Trudeau and Chretien, the vast majority of Western Canadians will never vote Liberal, that is a fact. Same goes for Mulroney and the PC party. Harper has essentially made a new party, Westerners have bought in, Quebecers haven't. It's understandable if Quebecers would vote Liberal instead or for the NDP, but some fringe party that is irrelevant is beyond logic. I can't vote for what Quebecers want because the bloc isn't a national party. It's because of voters is why the PC's were sent into oblivion and why the Liberals got majority after majority with a divided right and strong Liberal leadership. Having a fringe party to cause a logjam in parliament is the definition of selfishness, the Westerners gave that up, now it's Quebecers' turn. -

I agree, Mulroney went too far and the West made tory brass pay the price. When my riding went Liberal red in 93, that is nothing but pure disgust at Mulroney's gaffe. There are other regions other than Quebec, the federal Liberals and Quebecers do not understand this and that is why they are virtually shut out of the west. What is sad is that the west compromised, they fixed the tory party and Quebecers who are centre right are too pig headed to compromise as well. I might change my prediction of what will happen to Harper, in the west there is grumbling that Harper is pandering too much to Quebec. If this doesn't work out, heads might roll. For a centre right gov't to have any major traction in Ottawa, there must be a new centre right autonomous party in quebec like the ADQ that will vote with the tories in parliament on some issues. The Bloc is too left wing. It would be almost the Tories and Liberals best interest to write off Quebec and try and work with two Quebec parties representing the right and left. Pandering too much to Quebec has sent the tories to oblivion once, and it may do so again...
