How the Conservatives will win their majority
blueblood replied to Barts's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The NDP did a horrible job of advancing their economy. Any rigger will tell you that Alberta had the better system for exploiting oil. SK was pulling ahead in spite of the NDP. Had a centre right party been in during the late 90's, SK would be rivaling Alberta. -
The tories had the scary scary demon to fight off. People saw that the Liberals were corrupt and their platform sucked and their voting intentions proved that. Blaming the Liberal loss on the RCMP is proposterous. Harper ran the better campaign, was not corrupt, and had the better platform. That's like saying Obama won because he's a minority.

SK has oil, why did it take so long to join the fat cats club? I think oil has hit the floor along with the other commodities -

That's not what saskatchewan thinks. After tossing out the NDP its good time charlie! Saying that Alberta has good books only because of oil is completely denying facts. Ontario and Quebec better step up to the plate. Ontario and PQ could use a conservative savior right about now. -

Alberta's farmland is garbage. Ontario has a much more profitable ag sector than Alberta and has better land. Same with Quebec. PEI has a respectable AG sector as well, so does BC. My point exactly, if Ontario can make it without oil and gas, why can't the rest? Having oil and gas is irrelevant. NFLD had oil and gas for a long time and it was a basket case. MB has oil and it's still on the dole. NS has oil, still on the dole. Given ON and PQ's advantages, they should be eclipsing Alberta in economic terms. -
They tried selling Dion's PhD and Canadians didn't buy it. Good for Ignatieff he has a PhD. All the great Presidents and Prime Ministers I know of didn't have a PhD. If you think the average Canadian is going to think a PhD is the end all and be all, I suggest you step out of your ivory tower. Agriculture professors have PhD's as well, they also can't hack it running a farm so they have to play at the University. Any time anyone with a PhD in agriculture mentions something I roll my eyes, why in the blue hell am I going to listen to ag advise from someone who's farm went belly up? If Stockwell Day with a highschool diploma balanced Alberta's books and made it the most friendly business environment, I suggest Ignatieff go to his alma mater and ask for a refund.

Ignatieff Running on Charm and Book Sense

Considering PMPM's wishlist in the 05 campaign, and the coalition's wishes, I'll cut Harper some slack. People wanted gov't spending, Harper delivered. -

ROC has sufficient farmland, tourist destinations, some other parts even have oil and natural gas. Here's what Alberta doesn't have; mining, manufacturing, population, proximity to the massive US population, hydro/nuclear power, and deepwater ocean ports. Your telling me with all those advantages, the rest of canada still needs Albertan help to get by? Time for the ROC to pick up its boots. -

Economy, projection of power, innovation, and yes a good quality of life. Everyone in the world dances to their music. -

Yup that province with the best 10% of the population, and with one of the best finances in the western hemisphere. How about the rest of Canada steps up to be as good as Alberta instead of holding Alberta back? -

And Albertans have better paycheques and less taxes! The things we have done as individuals has gotten us to one of the top 5 countries in the world, America is number one because precisely because of throwing collectivism under the bus, eg. President Reagan. Society doesn't get oil out of the ground, run business's, and cut trees. -

Alberta has no debt and no deficit. Alberta also has a giant pot of money they can dip into in times like this. $40 dollar oil is still profitable, they do still have downhole rigs there. Albertan's have the lowest taxes in Canada and one of the most business friendly tax policies on the continent. Quebec has ports, minerals, and a large amount of hydro potential, Ontario has a large amount of minerals, manufacturing, and population. Why can't those two provinces balance their books with the advantages they have? The success of Alberta is proof positive of the poison that socialism is. How about lets build the damn thing already and watch the money roll in. People bitching about the environment and stimulus, and a project like this is delayed... How about having the same standards as the Ontario plants when they were built? -

There's a line between safety and plain foolishness. Canada's nuclear regulators have crossed that line. People do have a chance to get above baseline, they don't need to raid my bank account to do it. I could care less about gov't service. If you can't pay the bill then go without. People can suffer or succeed based on their own merits. -
Let American Eat Their Own Junk....An Appeal

Don't worry, we got ourselves out of that pickle. There has been a paradigm shift in the range of grains trading. If the third world doesn't want to pay for our surplus grain, then we light it on fire! -

Yes, that's punishing success. Why do we need all those regulations? How about building it and doing a good job running it. Saves everybody money and makes money. But then your all about raiding Alberta's bank account to bankroll Winnipeg's socialist nonsense. Yes they are being punished, money they should be getting is going elsewhere. Like I said, the only people who like socialism are the ones who live off of it. Mulroney was the most unpopular prime minister when he left office, should people have just stayed home and "lived with it"? Gay marriage used to be an impossibility, should they have just "lived with it"? Thank God we live in a democracy where we have the ability to change what we think is nonsense. Perhaps in the future transfer payments will be done away with. -

That is a horrible thing. We were in an energy crisis and we want to waste our time with bureaucratic red tape? How about we take what we know and use it to work safely instead of making projects damn near impossible to start. Hindering growth on nuclear power is ivory tower nonsense at its finest. Albertans are having to go without money to spend on things they want. Albertans opportunity to get ahead has been hampered because of equalization. What don't you understand about taking money away from somebody being punishment? If I forcibly take 100 dollars from you am I punishing you? How about if Canadians don't want to go without, they can move to where the action is? There's no law from preventing that. -

Visit My Website How convenient that the Majority of Ontario's reactors were built prior to this legislation being passed. How come the ROC doesn't get these same benefits. How fair is it to punish a province that's succeeding? Fairness is not punishing success. Fairness is about letting people get ahead and not holding anyone back. Equalization holds people back. Equalization is about as fair as communism. Punishing success is complete stupidity and it hurts everyone in the end. Would it be fair to you to raid your wallet and give a large chunk of your money to the skids begging on Portage and Main? Mind you people love that socialist poison when they are the benefactors of it. Scrap this ridiculous program and let the provinces raise their own money. -

No that's a very Russian thing. Your a fool if your fond of having your bank account raided for someone else's benefit. Constitutions can be changed. Ontario didn't have to jump through hoops, why should Saskatchewan and Alberta? Punishing progress is the pillar of stupidity.
