Ignatieff continues to make overtures to farmers, west
blueblood replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The going to jail if you don't want to participate in it for starters... It's not all it's cracked up to be yet it's not as evil as it's cracked up to be. Option 2 on the plebiscite... -

not all stuff is G Mod, there are stuff that isn't. The Africans can grow that until they can afford to grow GM. Like I said they are almost giving away Golden Rice, no terminator gene and no red tape with that one. -

What's wrong with Genetically Modified products Those "big" corporations have developed a strain of rice to prevent poor children from going blind, not only that they're giving the seeds away. Those GM crops are like that so it is easier and cheaper to grow them. Greed should always play into the ag equation, it has benefitted our country, and allows advances in technology. We don't dump millions of tons down mineshafts anymore, we just burn it. Can't afford the bill, we find someone who can. It also allows poor people to grow their own stuff instead of guys like me flooding the market. -

The CWB, and various firms give me money when I sell my product. That means I am getting paid. Last time I checked large land owners who earn and spend hundreds of thousands of dollars are not on the low end of any class structure. Grain prices these days and long term market fundamentals are ensuring that nobody is being robbed of opportunity. -
After reading thru this thread, I'd say that MSJ/Dobbin and Aug91/Huston sides are both right. Having the gov't "regulate" that loans are supposed to be given to people who shouldn't be given them in order to have some sort of affordable housing, and then on top of that have both the Clinton and Bush admin stick their heads in the sand and assuming everything is hunky dory and no regulations are necessary is in fact a recipe for disaster. If the gov't wants the banks to loan to high risk people, then they had best put forth some strict regulations so that this type of mess doesn't happen.

You would have to watch political shows to see and hear Lord. He comes off as eloquent, and has some personality. He's cool, but not cold. All in all would do a good job. Here's a clip of him talking Visit My Website -
Plans to Close Prison Farms Taking Heat.

Visit My Website Whoops wrong country, that would be Pakistan. However they did exist, but now no children (supposedly) work there. My point is that, I'd rather see our prisoners working in those type of factories first. I think the freight savings would be huge. I have nothing against foreign investment, however for jobs like that, we may as well use our skids for the extreme low price as part of the payment of their debt to society. -

Harper had to prove himself to easterners to up his seat count. Ignatieff will have to do the same (if he gets into the PM seat). Too much bad blood out west b/w Liberals and Westerners, we'd have to see them govern and judge them for ourselves. Prentice is about as charasmatic as a door. Bernard Lord would be a much better choice for the tories as they could improve their seat count out east with a Maritimer running the show. -

Bulls aren't that dangerous and that's what ventilation is for. I'd rather see prisoners making shoes for Nike instead of children in Bangledesh. -

Think he'll have to get elected and put his money where his mouth is. He does have a refreshing attitude compared to previous Liberals. However talk is cheap. -

Might work for cabbage and lettuce; corn and soybeans no dice. Heavy machinery is making "slave labour" a thing of the past. Why not use that slave labour to make shoes and cheap t-shirts for walmart instead prisoners running around loose outside? -

Do you even know what a corporation is? I suggest you look it up. There are many smaller farms that are under the corporate model. Bringing up this big business nonsense forcing people off the land is flat out nonsense. Please don't comment anymore about agriculture, you don't know your head from your ass regarding this topic. Valuable land shouldn't be wasted on prisoners, it should be utilized by those wanting to make a living at it. Prisoners should be doing the "sweatshop" thing and supplying shoes to Nike at rock bottom prices. Rehabilitation has been IMO a failure, Prison gets to be too cushy and you run the risk of people committing crimes to get to a better situation. -

Also a great time to negotiate those ridiculous expensive union contracts. Taxpayers also have the right to hold any part of the organization costing too much money accountable. -
Unions Call for 'Buy Canadian' Policy
blueblood replied to Progressive Tory's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Correct, Canada has a Buy Canadian policy concerning dairy and poultry products. Not only that, those producers are not allowed to export. If it's a buy american thing for steel products, that's almost a non issue. The manufacturers will be screaming for that to be lifted once the steel industry starts soaking them. This is what happened in the later stages of the BSE crisis. -

Oh well, if China doesn't shape up, India can cash in on our business. -

Ex-First Nations head acquitted in hate trial

I'm surprised the court didn't throw out the case because maybe he was senile. What was he 75 when he made those statements? It wouldn't put it past me that he could be senile. A person could go into an old folks home and come out hearing some pretty colorful statements about minorities. -

Is Canada Falling Short on Trade With China?
blueblood replied to Progressive Tory's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Our trade relationship is fine, they ordered a boatload (literally) of Canola during february. Then there is all of our other goodies they like. Just wait until that pipeline to the west coast is built. The Harper gov't has been aggressively negotiating with the EU and has worked out free trade agreements in some countries in Latin America. Then there our friends to the south. If China wants our goodies, then they will have to play nice or it's hello Europe. Alberta is one of the most conservative places on Earth, and China seems to have its eye fixed there. -
Scratch yet another cat, and take my stapler pain test.

I highly doubt it, they have extremely high tax rates and harsh language laws, no rational business would dare set up shop there. Then there is their attitude concerning exports, they do not like trade whatsoever, their agriculture policy is a shining example of that. WIth their trade attitude and high levels of gov't interference wealth generation would be next to impossible. That country would become a mess very quickly.
