  1. Exactly and if you to were walk around a university campus, you would find a fair number of students straight out of China attending. The only way to compete with china is to specialize in making stuff they want - commodities.
  2. there's no difference. PMPM signed the agreement. Did he think the detainees would be tortured? no, no rational person would. Same goes for his little adventure with the US. Is there speculation (if not evidence) of torture being used at gitmo, yes. and the Liberals did nothing for how long? Plus we have ignatieff who has published works justifying viewpoints that you guys consider the "right" to have. Show me where Harper published something saying he justifies torture.
  3. Hydro not going anywhere Oil, well we have 80-100 yrs. of that left if not more. By then something new will have come along. Remember whale oil and how big that used to be (well you can't remember whale oil because you weren't alive, but its a fascinating topic) Markets, well food or fuel, whichever market is the highest bidder! If all else fales, it's time to invest in some clydesdales and make a killing on land rent!
  4. that's fine, i'll tend my couple square mile gardens!
  5. I wonder if Layton is saving that little gem for the upcoming leader's debate in the future. (there's always an election coming up)
  6. Which in my opinion makes Chavez disgusting, he is keeping his people poor on purpose and gives them scraps, which unfortunately the people love him for. What's even more unfortunate is that those people want this pathetic excuse for a leader and keep electing him. For a country floating on oil and in such proximity to the US, they should have a much higher standard of living.
  7. Have fun trying to explain all that away in a 30 second soundbite. Then we have the Liberals who signed the detainee agreement before they were punted, and before that the Liberals sent the detainees to the Americans/Gitmo, where apparently allegations of torture run wild. The Liberals are throwing rocks from a glass house. In fairness to the Liberals, they signed that agreement with the Afghan gov't in good faith, and gave the detainees to the Americans in good faith. However so did the tories. But, alas when all this is done, everyone's hands are dirty.
  8. That's right the Liberals of today are much worse, they just go and publish works saying that they find torture acceptable. Thanks for that gem Iggy!!
  9. And on top of it we have Ignatieff who puts it in writing and published the fact that he thinks torture is acceptable.
  10. And close to 80% don't want Ignatieff/Dion for the job!
  11. So have the tories. Significantly more than the Liberals! More money spent on marketing always generates better returns. Case in point Dion/Ignatieff vs. Harper last year.
  12. It's mattered for the past 4 years, and the tories are proving to be exceedingly efficient at it. How is the Liberal leadership campaign debt going. It seems that they can finally afford a proper video camera this time!
  13. Sounds like the Liberals brought a knife to a gun fight. How big is that war chest the tories have at their disposal?
  14. Small C said: Capitalism 101, the more money that I keep, the more I have to spend on others. Government doesn't create wealth, it redistributes it. Sign up for some commerce classes, it sounds like you need some. The Irish didn't believe that, and it resulted in a massive economic boom. Why do you think all of those American companies set up business in Ireland rather than Sweden? Might it be tax rates? You keep listening to that broke poli sci. prof, and I'll listen to my multi-millionaires. So you think a society has to soak everyone at tax time in order to function? Newsflash, living off of society makes you as poor as church mice. The numbers don't lie. He and I should pay the exact same tax rate. There shouldn't be a free lunch for him, he wants gov't services, pay the piper. And I could care less about him starving or not. That's the way your society works, that's how failed societies have operated. In low tax jurisdictions, you do well and your not punished for it. Forcibly taking money from me while the guy down the road gets less taken from him is evil. You can't make people give back, that's beyond unethical. How about doing well and being rewarded for it? What's wrong with everyone contributing equally. Face it you hate the fact that people succeed and you feel good about raiding their bank accounts. That type of behaviour is disgusting and that is why many wealthy Canadians do their affairs overseas. Receivers of 8+ billion dollars in equalization in spite of the highest tax rates in the country, proximity to the US, their fair share of natural resources, and proximity to navigable water. If that's not a money pit, I don't know what is. I'll believe Wild Bill who lives there over a naive kid. Of course Ontario was running a surplus, they taxed the dickens out of everything. If Ireland can do it, Ontario can do it. Ireland has no resources, yet they grew at a rapid rate. What don't you get, I already contribute to society more than you ever will by having loads of money in the bank, buying all sorts of inputs and other things, and by investing in companies. Can you do that on the same scale I can, no. Why should I be punished for contributing. There's more to society than government. I complain because people who contribute less than I do have the gall to tell me that I have to pay higher taxes than they do. I am a voting taxpayer, I have every right to complain about high taxes just like a great proportion of other Canadians. You don't like that people have a problem paying high taxes deal with it. So? Somebody dies in the street, who cares. This is what happens when you grow your tax base. There are more tax dollars to come in versus jacking up the rate. Better to grow the base than the rate. Alberta has done that, and they're reaping the benefits of it. BC2004 has stated he sees numerous Canadians in the US getting healthcare. People don't like to wait in line and are willing to jump the line. The US system is good, just that their population is so huge, the percentages make it look worse than it actually is. The Canadian system was so bad, that the Supreme court had to intervene, remember that? Oh sure balance, the kind of balance where I pay 44% and you pay 25%, must be nice advocating something when you don't foot the bill. Government can't die, and further more a government is guaranteed to make money (forcibly collecting taxes). They can take as long as they want paying off debt, they should so that everyone can enjoy a better standard of living. The government debt isn't like a mortgage, it goes into perpetuity. I use this... My link In other words do as I say, not as I do. Do you know what the will of the populace is? Can you read 30 million minds? Given that the AGW thing is a sham, I somehow doubt it. People don't want to give their money to third world countries and hope they go green. Carbon isn't even a problem. Carbon levels were higher throughout geologic history and Earth is still here. Like the bubble that already popped in Ontario? Oil is back over 80$, I think Alberta will be just fine. I will take the words of a multi-millionaire such as Kevin O'leary, over some half baked broke poli-sci prof any day of the week. Who are you to say it's BS, the people who think that they should look after themselves tend to succeed, whereas people who think society should look after them tend to fail, case in point USSR vs. USA. Anyone who doesn't contribute is unimportant, that's the cold reality of it. Anything else is a fairy tale. It can provide a better environment with lower taxes. In other words, do as I say, not as I do, gotcha. Forcibly taking close to half of what I make, when others have to pay less is punishment, especially with all of the good I'm doing for the economy by spending/investing/having money in the bank. Do you think rich people bury all their money in a hole and nobody gets it?
  15. Unless that rich person is named the province of Alberta...
  16. And in order for people like me to keep society rolling, we need to keep more of our money, taxes do the opposite of that. So me spending my money and having a savings account is not helping society. I have succeeded in spite of society not because of it. Why cant everyone pay the same tax equally if we are all an equal society? The fact that leftists think that people who provide jobs, and stimulate the economy more than the average joe should have the extra burden of sky high tax is evil. Quebec is the example of a money pit, always has and always will be. Ontario was facing problems long before the recession. The recession just sped up the process. That's their problem they can't achieve the same growth as Alberta. Ireland has some of the lowest taxes in the developed world and no oil, yet before the recession they had one of the highest rates of growth in the western world. Why should I who contributes more to society than you pay twice as much tax as you do? Why do you feel you have a right to my money? For every dollar that gets taken up in my high taxes, that's one less dollar I spend/put in the bank/invest. Pre-recession ireland, ranked one of the freest countries in the world, highest quality of life, and low taxes. You get to say how strong Ontario is, I'll play ball with Ireland. That was years ago, there is no way a hospital in Canada can compete with one in the states as far as fancy equipment goes, that is a clear example of how the private sector destroys public financing as far as getting things done. If the Canadian system is so good, why do people go to the US. As far as I'm concerned I got my money's worth, but I guess you would rather have people risk dying because of some socialist nonsense. Yes but they can have a co-signer, and have every opportunity to get earning power. And leftists aren't the only people that live in Canada, and not everyone is as unfortunate as they are. In my profession there is no luck, it's skilled management. The market decides what happens to shady people, they lose their shirts. If people are dumb enough to invest in them, that's their problem. The rest of that part is tin-foil hattetness. If a business is poorly managed, the market will always punish them. The CRA is an example of how regulations interrupt the normal flow of business and cause long term chaos, had their been no CRA, those poor trash would have to get jobs/start up businesses in order to get money to buy a house. This country won't die, this country can take as long as it wants to pay off the debt. Paying off the debt shouldn't be a result of soaking high earners 44%, it should come with an increased tax base, which is a result of lower taxes. Wrong, that's under $126,000. Like I said, I am well within my rights to speak about that. So what your saying that people who disagree with you should leave the country? Well looks like you are advocating Quebec and Alberta seperation. Under your parameters, it sounds like your fine if the people of Alberta want to declare independence. The sooner leftists realize to accept that a large portion of the population can think for themselves and aren't brainwashed by a grade 9 social studies textbook, the better off our country will be. Tell that to Stephane Dion. Hell even PMPM and Chretien knew to campaign on lower taxes. Hell Jack Layton tried the heart strings argument, and he can't even break out of his rut! Alberta has the lowest tax in the country, not much people slip through the cracks there! In reality, in this society it is the responsibility of all of us to look after ourselves, anything else is a fairy tale. That example is not me, that example is Robert Herjavec. Everyone has their own talents, I cannot play hockey, someone else can. Just because some people are too lazy to cash in on their talents is not my problem. By me making money and spending/saving in a bank/investing it, I am making the lives of those around me better, and at a far better rate than government handouts ever will. I think I understand humanity well, and it's not the fairy tale you keep telling. Government's role is to provide an environment that allows people to better themselves, not to punish people. But you say that government knows how to spend money more than most people, so in your case its a do as I say, not as I do. If you think a government knows how to spend money the best, cut them a large cheque and live off what the government gives you back, and see how that turns out. Why should those few people be punished, just because there are few of them? I thought you were all about equality, or is it only when it suits you?
  17. Wrong is subjective. The voters can vote however they want and its their problem to live with the decisions of their actions. That's the athenians business if they are "wrong" or not. The people of Sparta "voted" their system of government in by not rioting/causing disturbances/civil revolution.
  18. Why would I want to be born in a socialist banana republic like that? Your moving the goal posts speaking like that. I wouldn't mind having an operation similar to mine in Ireland though, the tax breaks would be devine. Bullocks, I will bring up Alberta time and again. They can properly manage their resources, attract business and grow their economy. Quebec and Ontario have big money advantages of their own, cry me a river that they pissed them away. Quebec and Ontario sit on their own treasure chest, not my problem they can't manage things. I bet you wouldn't mind paying less than that. Try paying close to half and then talk to us. People and society can be wealthier if wealthy people pay less taxes. My parents were both diagnosed with cancer, where do you think they got treated? Off to the USA, where we aren't going to gamble with waiting list nonsense. Because of the lack of waiting lists and the fact that we can purchase better care in the US, I still get to have my parents around. When I retire I can look forward to a 50K per year retirement in today's dollars, and that's without the piddly little gov't pension. A bank could have given her various loans to help her out when she was younger, could the gov't do that? Please explain how an unregulated private sector is the most dangerous thing in the world. Gov't regulations brought on the CRA, which has resulted in the mess we are in now. There's operating costs and there's robbery. What was going on in the 90's with those massive surpluses amounted to robbery. 44% tax is robbery. Why not have everyone pay the same tax and adjust "services" accordingly? It is well within my rights not to like a tax system. I can just as easily say if you don't like that a large portion of Canadians want low taxes, then you can move as well. Not the tugging at the heart strings argument, that's like a crazy girl playing the suicide card to keep her boyfriend. In this country if you are starving, that's your fault not mine. We have immigrants come over with 20 dollars and turn into millionaires, no excuse for being that poor with the job opportunities generated by people like me. I can say that its people like me spending our money that results in less starvation than in countries where people aren't allowed to make money. Your the one who says that government knows how to spend money better than anyone else. If you want to make claims like that, put your money where your mouth is. I don't like being poor either, being taxed at 44% makes me poorer than being taxed at a lower rate. For you to say that people who succeed should be happy being soaked at 44% when you get to pay 25%, is like Al Gore blabbing about climate change while flying around in a private jet.
  19. So let me get this straight, I contribute to society by spending in it, and pumping the bank with dollars in my accounts and getting slapped with a 44% tax is the thanks I get? If anything society owes a debt of gratitude to people who succeed by providing low tax rates. Jurisdictions that follow this method tend to perform very well, see Alberta. Probably since most leftists come from poor backgrounds, their share of the tax is far less. It's easy to spend other people's money. Doing something yourself is one thing, but justifying robbery is another. You are justifying people who do well to get soaked at tax time. That to me is having a problem with people making money. What's wrong with a flat tax like they have in Alberta? Like on old age pensions. The gov't robs people and only pays 11k per year. You show me an example of how the gov't helps out people more than a bank can. The gov't won't give me a mortgage to buy a house, but a bank can. A bank can provide me an operating loan, the government can't. The private sector does far more for making the lives better of ordinary people than the government ever can. Why people would want to punish the private sector for making people's lives better is beyond me. Calling card of a socialist. The government should have the privelege of having a productive private sector which provides the government with its tax dollars and should be willing to give up some of its tax income for that privelege. It must be like a knife twisting in your back everytime a business incorporates and the government is short that much more money. If the government is as smart as you make them out to be, write a cheque signing over all of your money to the government, live off of government assistance, and see how that works out for you. Chavez thinks like you do, and his people are poorer because of it.
  20. That's BS, why should I be punished for succeeding? Why should I be punished for spending my money in Canada improving our economy? Why should I be punished for using less services than the average Canadian? Trudeau had that attitude with Alberta with his NEP policy, fat lot of good that did. Why do leftists feel that people who are able to do well should pay a disproportionate amount of tax? Why do leftists think that people having money is a bad thing? When a person gets paid that money is immediately going to work, it helps provide the banks liquidity to provide loans to people looking to better themselves. As far as helping people goes, there is no way a government holds a candle to the bank. Then there is when a person spends there money and how that helps everyone. Do you think the government knows how to spend my money better than I do?
  21. 44% of the top income bracket is not high? That's garbage.
  22. What a fool. His people suffer because of his rank stupidity.
  23. Skill on the battlefield is beyond the voters control. The athenian voters have no influence over a Spartan gov't.
  24. At shareholder meetings it does.
  25. I am all about majority rules. The majority is never wrong in the grand scheme of things. The majority of Americans wanted an end to republican rule in 2008. Limiting the power of a majority smacks in the face of democracy. As for wealth being a determining factor, why should those who contribute more have their knees kicked out from them.
