President Oprah Winfrey in January 2021?
RB replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Her brand is too important and big to make such an announcement to run today. However I think she might make a go, another something to add to her repertoire -
I would like to say anything business (includes economics) will get you faster into your eventual chosen career. When you choose urban planning you become more specialized and with less prospect of jobs in the field of choice. Networking then becomes crucial as jobs in specialized engineering are limited. Perhaps it is to distinguish between many things including your like for a subject matter and practicality. For instance, I liked math. But, what if statistics Canada did not offer me a job. I prefer to side with the culture of the locals in South Africa "you make a plan". So, I pursued economics among others. The love for a area of study never faltered, you will find out as your journey continues. As it turns out in the end you can enjoy the best of both ends. I have a peculiar feeling you already know the answer . Good luck in your studies.

Workplace Misconduct: Is there some guide for men to follow?
RB replied to RB's topic in Sex and Gender Issues
I want to look at women gaining access to executive jobs in a positive light. Currently there are less job opportunities at the top and plenty of qualified women to fill executive type jobs. If there can be a level playing field for both men and women there will be a greater probability for change and less games. The dynamics will change. I don't deny women tend to want other women to have a similar experience in terms of upward movement, and it is never simple - they are not in the network sphere of those in charge. The locker talk now-infamous 'Access Hollywood' tape B Bush Entertainment Tonight on the bus by Trump is a good example - women are excluded from this crowd, however women are the subject matter and in a not so desirable way for work.- 43 replies

Workplace Misconduct: Is there some guide for men to follow?
RB replied to RB's topic in Sex and Gender Issues
Argus Still majority of executive jobs are held by men. When you compare happily attached to women (out of bounds) to women who pout their prowess (out of bounds or not) trying to get contracts and to get ahead in business, it is more difficult, and takes long to secure contracts when perceived as out of bounds. I rather put on my lipstick and high heels if it makes life easy. With more women at the top, there will come change. Indeed a welcome change to wear flats.- 43 replies

Workplace Misconduct: Is there some guide for men to follow?
RB replied to RB's topic in Sex and Gender Issues
They is much "anti-male" literature available in attempt to understand the male dominated workspace in executive jobs. There is nothing incorrect about enhancing and educating "girl behavior" to boys while everyone recognize what is undesirable behavior in the workplace. However, all the current misconduct allegations are levied on men in power by both men and women. Some allegations happened decades ago however misconduct revelation is making an impact now(some people question why now). Maybe social media makes it easy to say metoo, maybe because women enrage that men want to deny bad behavior 40 years ago (they are not fired) or women are satisfied when men they are regretful and admit bad behavior is wrong (most of the men are getting fired) finally some standard. Whose next, accusations has flu like symptoms - it spreads and the season is not over. It is not about a failure to communicate between men and women in the workspace, it's about wanting to get ahead, and the discrepancies women they face to get there.- 43 replies

Workplace Misconduct: Is there some guide for men to follow?

Time has named appropriately the "Silence Breakers" person of the year for 2017. It is a movement that is current, and people are taking notice...for now. I think change would be registered when women and men hold power equally, and women supporting women in companies instead of current majority of men holding power position and women in power keeping other women out.- 43 replies

Thanks for sharing the song August. It is profound. It immediately reminded me of Sia's Bird set free I agree love and being love give meaning to life. I would be wonderful if every person can experience and find love. Sia's song reconciled living by not being bugged down with struggles in life. Like move along. People can choose to give love, even when you didn't receive love. What I mean is that people can still aspire, hope and see love in others, while they are optimistic about their own future. From Sia: I don't care if I sing off key. I find myself in my melodies, I sign for love, I sing me. I shout it out like the bird set free. Each man search for meaning in life, and each defining meaning is what makes up life. (RB)

There are different ways to look at things (e.g. we see a big house, so we can call it a big house, we can also say it is a not so small house). Life is not only based on linear experience with expected happenings. For this reason I can say yes I live to satisfy my personal ego. However I can also say I do not wish to die before I satisfy my personal ego among other things which explains infinite reasons of wishing to live.

The recent "me too" accusations of unwanted sexual advancement, sexual assault and sexual harassment misconduct allegations starting Weinstein and recently Matt Lauer along with notable names in the news (List of names domino effect since Weinstein), today Silicon Valley is named as notorious for having misconduct parties. This is making the work environment tense for men especially. Men want to know how to behave, do they shake hands with women? do they hug women still? No more jokes or wisecracks (e.g. taking a picture of 3 people and joking its a threesome) this is insensitive There is a change of culture. So, what is appropriate behavior. How are we feeling with all this revelation of male misconduct.

There are plenty of reasons to live even when it is not clear. 1) work towards and realize a goal in life (e.g. to become a doctor/lawyer), to eat, to have sex, to take a picture, to understand a picture, to drink, to confuse others and yourself, to look handsome 2) sleep all day, wake up, feel good and go back to sleep 3) howl at the moon 4) gaze at the heavens and wonder; sleep under the starts 5) wait for prince charming 6) keep looking for a pot of goal at the end of the rainbow 7) run into a warm building on a very cold day 8) watch a bird carry a leaf in the mouth 9) head for the rooftop of your house and sing at the top of your lungs 10) tell a white lie and get caught 11) smile to see the spread of infectiously happy emotions 12) share and receive love 13) tie a shoe lace for a stranger 14) perform ordinary magic (e.g. give a hug to a love one next to you) 15) write 2 good things you have done starting today (e.g. I made a beautiful English breakfast, and I draw the curtains open to let the light in) 16) watch girly movies 17) Watch CNN for updates on Trump and pretend your shock and surprise 18) wondered why grass still find a way to grow and be displayed in the patio even when you have the detailed screening, mesh and took all preventative measures 19) understand the little and menial imperfections that takes a lifetime to fix 20) dance in the rain 22) practice your deep breathing everyday 23) look into the mirror on the wall and say aloud "I am the fairness of all" 24) now have a good laugh until you cry 25) meet lots of new people, have lots of friends 26) stay in touch with relatives 27) find that secret place where music dwell in dementia patients, so that you can store your infinite reasons for living 28) don't ever forget you are alive, well and you have many paths, and choices in life

True story: Yesterday, I overheard a desperate lady on the phone, apparently someone thinks there is no need to live and suicide is the next solution. IT IS NOT. People who are armed with coping solutions, and mechanisms to solve problems and issues do not generally have thoughts and plans for suicide.

Why are we here - it's a very difficult question in a search for the meaning of life. My interpretation is that you are part of a "entropy" system once you are here. You contribute to everything around you. People who choose to end their life create a "BIG" void. My answer: It is not death but life that sustains us and supports having fun. So whatever motivates you, you actually need to be alive. Be good to yourselves.

I am having some current experience with Millennials. Here is a real scenario, high school graduate who is defiant, prefers to be homeless and wants to communicate with like minded people of his/her caliber e.g. scientist. Let's say this person is supplemented by OW. Whether the person thought of the remoteness of connecting with a scientist to stay on OW, I am not sure. I am open to young genius abilities. However this was not one of them. And so just in case I did make a mistake in my initial assessment, I actually sent them off to visit some scientist that worked at CERN and Canada arm. At time point my only hope is that I might have made a difference. Yep.

I have mixed feelings about the separation - I meant all the while we are looking to be equal but now we still wish to have a special woman's day. I think in the future when women want to go really fast in the pool - they will change (literally their clothing)

I swim weekdays during my lunch where ever I can find a pool - I have not noticed ladies only - I see males and I am quite happy to see them

the response is a parallel on perhaps how to expand on talking about the music so we can appreciate - the example was just one of the ways of using music we can relate. The parallel could have been a classical piece or other culture music - and also this thread keeps crashing and recovering.

hmm I travel around a bit and I do bring the music back with me - somehow it is not the same when you blast it at home. What I was articulating it would be nice to learn more - I am interested the Turkish music. For example, so I am interested in Great Big World and Christina Aguilera "Say Something" ballad is full of emotions, when you play on piano, the arrangement of the chords and voice just gets you to a certain je ne sais quoi and I don't have to post the video or audio - I think this is what August was getting at. Prior I was never into rap or reggae music, but now I have a different view of this music and how a message can be carried. I love the mixing of the music Sia Cheap Thrills is a fun song and spans one octave. Check check folks like Maria Carey range G#2-G#7 - is in the world records - sheese. Two days ago I was chatting with a group of under 29 and give some lines from one of "the killers" song. Needless to say they were understandingly shocked. Music translates and connects.

It would have been nice to have a deeper "smarter" discussion on the music here and lends to an opportunity to otherwise learn about other kinds of music. For example "I like a song" could explain it is a ballad and tells a story i.e. incorporates impressions of life in wherever, and played in a period. Or even it was "bright" or "majestically played" - really there is nothing to draw - I agree August this discussion is not encouraging.

I first heard throat singing while studying the Inuits, now they have mixed the music with pop - it is different.

thanks for sharing. Music is universal. I immediately liked Simge Yanzi, I love the runs, nice music. I listened to the first 2. Are these popular songs in Turkiye?
