And there are also the neither-nors: for example, those in the camp of MPs like Malalai Joya; modern, secular-minded, liberal Afghans who detest the Taliban; but also don't trust the Western interventionists any farther than they can toss them.

Geez, why does everyone get so attached to their damn cats? Just joking. Me too, I adore my kitty. -
Albino Rhino beer violates human rights.
bleeding heart replied to a topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Hmm. My bad; a fair response. Though I object to being referred to as a genius (it's so rare that I consider it a bit alien). However, I stand beside my point that the HRC's are rotten, have zero place in a (relatively) free society...and that even knuckledraggers like Levant and Steyn can be correct once in their propagandistic little lives. -

That's just it; Ezra Levant and Mark Steyn are reactionary blowhards--and they're major creeps, in my view. But when you're right, you're right. And they're right on this. Canada has some serious free expression issues that are long past due in dealing with. -
I don't think so, but I looked over the "movies" section...and found that most of these are big fans of "American History X." Sure, they deplore the liberal sensibilities of the movie...but they love the character's racist, politicized speeches. If it seems odd, I suppose it's not at bottom dissimilar from Anthony Swofford talking about himself and his fellow Marines watching "Platoon" and "Apocalypse Now"--both antiwar films--to psyche themselves up for battle. (Except for one major difference; racist morons versus rough 'n ready Marines, a pretty big distinction). Those types almost always do. They know they are arguing with their superiors, and so snipe and then move on.

Once again, the HRC's are (I suppose accidentally) arguing for their own abolishment. The way to go about such identity-politics complaints is to go public; if your case is strong, maybe you'll embarass the "persecutor" into changing his or her ways...particularly when little matters like commerce is concerned. Bottom lines make companies chickens***t. Pepsi pulled a comic ad about prison rape once thousands of victims and their advocates went public with it. "You're joking about rape now???" Ad pulled. Immediately. Agree or not, that's the proper way to go about it. -
Well, Lictor is a Stormfront-type guy (I know....I spent several hours looking at that appalling nest of right-wing evil stupidity, for educational purposes). So, yeah, possibly you're right!

Canada Pension Plan & Skype: Madness

It's time to start doing what's needed, so we can see what isn't wanted. -
Does Stephen Harper suffer from Hero Syndrome?
bleeding heart replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So...approximately sixty-seven million jobs? They had a...what? 30%, 35% unemployment rate before Reagan saved the nation? Strange that no one else seems to be aware of this staggering fact. -

New poll shows NDP tied with conservatives

I think a lot of Canadians would say this. In weak moments of childish pettiness. But at bottom, I believe most Canadians would prefer they stay, because they're awesome, and so are the rest of us. -
He's either 1.) a right-wing Stormfront type (his persona); or 2.) a leftie pretending to be one to make them look bad (as if that's necessary! ); or 3.) some slightly amatuerish provocateur trying to get a rise out of people. I think he's 1.) and 3.), if I had to guess.....

You are of course correct; his opinion is in fact true for all like minded bigots in Canada. There are doubtless quite a number of them. -
It's a raw and unverified (and unverifiable) generaliztion...grotesque or merely bad, whatever suits. And how grand a scheme of things are the many thousands murdered, tortured, and so on? Or the innumerable political prisoners...is this too "freedom" in August1991 parlance? As Michael pointed out, "freedom" means a heck of a lot more than right-wing vs. left-wing economics. Surely.

Even though I always collected 'em, part of me secretly thought they were useless. But I'm sending my son to Germany with Air Miles. God (or whoever) bless those miles! Sorry for the trite diversion...back to the topic now......

So where's the outrage about ORNGE?

So where's the outrage about ORNGE?
bleeding heart replied to Boges's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Yes, there's a sector of Canadian opinion that holds there is one good Torontonian. -
But it's moot; as we've pointed out, they'll still leave. Again: why wouldn't they leave? Patriotism?

Majority of Canadians support death penalty
bleeding heart replied to Bryan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yes. some of the children remained reasonable and compassionate throughout. The influence is massive, as i fully agree. I'm only saying there's no "blank slate," but rather a pre-existing set-up, a biological factor. Try to teach an ant to be moral...or immoral. Mine isn't a controversial assertion (though yours certainly is). Moral ability (let's call it) is hardwired, just as the ability to walk and talk. Exactly as those. Yes....but they've always been present, though details and codification keep shifting. But it's always been there. Because it's innately part of what being a human is. The environmental factors to which you speak are acting upon a pre-existing human condition. Not creating something out of nothing (the "blank slate" hypothesis). -
Thanks for your points, here. So it would seem the "lower taxes and they'll stay!" fantasy can be put to inglorious rest now.
-
How do you know? How many less? Geez, you want to gut regulations (you never said which ones, btw: safety?), decrease taxes to zero, and so on.....without the faintest clue how much, if any, positive net effect it will have?

But the donkey is refusing to listen to a 100% verfiable fact. So since it's your analogy, are you saying that the denier crowd is objectively, verifiably correct? Because then you are arguing that "the science is settled." By definition.
