  1. Yeah....before this little rumour went public, we all really liked the guy...... But this is just too much.
  2. That's not too compassionate towards the good people of Edmonton.....
  3. So absurdly superstitious they didn't even believe in the Trinity, or in the Divinity of some radical rabbi, or in the correct Creation stories.
  4. Well, as an Easterner, I can only say that the hate and insults flow both ways (as your own post underlines, "defensive" though you may believe it to be). Whereas we here in the Atlantic Provinces are hardworking, kind and decent people in comparison to both y'all. Well...okay, we're kind and decent people, at least. Or...well, there are people here, anyway......
  5. ??? You say we won't have the tech savvy to deal with climate change until...until...we have it. And you know this because we couldn't have sent people to the moon any earlier than we did. I've already explained it in detail: I don't believe in numerology, or fate, or in the temporal inevitability that both imply. Also, your argument is a tautology, that claims it's correct because it claims it's correct. Putting more effort and more money into tackling the problem could well increase the spped at which we have the requisaite technology. The moon landing is irrelevant to this basic fact. Or...since you wish to use the analogy--there was no massive technological brealthrough that meant, with things going just slightly differently, the moon landing couldn't have happened, say, a few months earlier. That alone rips up your argument, which allows for zero hypothetical deviation from what has actually occured. And if the moon landing could have happened months earlier (not technologically unfeasible), there's nothig--nothing!--to say that tech to improve our current situation couldn't happen years earlier.
  6. Because Li is no more responsible for the murder than you and I.
  7. Sure, that's an excellent point. But I also suspect--hell, I know--that it's for marketing purposes as well: "Here's a winner! Buy your tickets!" It takes the abstract out of winning.
  8. Yes, it's a sort of thought experiment, i get that. I don't see the harm. It also depends on the poster, mind you; Argus is one thing, but if the ol' Lictor fellow wrote just what you did, we'd know he was advocating it. Not if animal breeding is the example we wish to use: certain undesired traits are bred out, but this tends to have unanticipated effects, such as other bad traits being bred in. For example, purebred dogs, arguably with a couple of exceptions, tend to be in many ways weaker and more likely to die than breeds that mix and match willy-nilly. People quite reflexively thinks so, it seems, but I honestly don't know. But I'd be cautious about it because...well, because...those fucking dogs, man! The diseases, the bad joints...good Christ, some of those cherished, carefully bred monsters can hardly breathe! A cult of masculinity, and higher-than-average rates of homosexuality? Not that that's a bad thing (if I can indulge in that always-presented addendum. )
  9. Again: that's not a "fair comment," because the two situations aren't analogous. Not necessarily an intentional misrepresentation, but nonetheless divorced from reason.
  10. Don't you mean "Mulcair"? An apparently small difference, but really a significant one.
  11. Yeah, next he'll be talking about culturally-inferior Muslim immigrants pooping in the streets.....
  12. I didn't bring it up. I corrected a misunderstanding.
  13. Yes...the author snidely remarks that we "treat" people (note the scary scare quotes) with mental illness. Quotation marks can say a lot.
  14. By Jove! You are insightfully implying that this might not even be his real name! Where does the "Mulcair" evil end? Who knows?
  15. Personally, I feel this is all a mug's game. I think Bryan nailed it: the most significant factor is morale boosting (or lowering, as the case may be). Certainly, the NDP's rise has been surprising, not least to long-time NDP supporters. But I place little credence in the polls...not because I'm wise and above it all, but just because they don't...feel like much, to me, personally. We'll see how things play out in the next election.
  16. Who would have guessed that some of these posters would suddenly fall in love with Charest, at this stage of the game. Signs and wonders.
  17. I've never heard it put quite that way.
  18. It's advertising for the lottery.
  19. Yes, the Dear Leader should Give and Take Away as He sees fit.
  20. No. But you're overstating the case to tell us that the protesters "think...they own the langauage." It's a non-starter, that's all.
  21. I had thought the self-destruction of the Liberals and the NDP's new showing were pretty significant as well.
  22. Yep. With some people, sympathy can be hard work.
  23. You're right. I was a prostitute, better known as a copywriter for an ad agency; and while the money wasn't astounding, there was definite opportunity to climb. But other values eventually took precedence.
  24. I've been fortunate enough to have an overdrive metabolism, but I understand that weight loss can be extremely difficult. I think this is a non-issue. I think Ford deserves some slight sympathy for this, his other rotten qualities notwithstanding.
