Should Canada allow more immigrants into the country?
sideshow replied to sideshow's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
with 5% unemployment, there should be 95 people out there to staff that hotel. If people werent so lazy and/or picky there wouldnt be this problem. but this is the atmosphere we foster in canada. i worked 10 years at low paid, manual labour jobs before i found something that was good. this was because of poor choices i made in my mid teens. but with hard work and persistence i was able to finally get a great paying job. wasnt easy, took years of university, long hours, and lack of sleep. but it happened. we dont need immigration to fill jobs and/or support us. we need to work harder as a society, and support ourselves. non skilled trades/professionals need not apply. -

i think that the ratio of jobs to people shrinks in accordance to the population...just like it grows. its supply and demand. the more people in, the more demand for product. the less people in, the less demand for product. once you work for a couple of decades, maybe pay your own bills and raise a family, you will see things differently. life is not an internet/mtv fishbowl. -

thats a stupid things to say. have you been to a reserve? seen the gas sniffing aboriginals walking down the streets of downtown centers? id say they were a LOT better off before caucasian immigrants "brought them up to todays standards". and your math is flawed. pay for things when i get old? my pension pays for that. i pay into it. every pay cheque. and into my rrsps. and into my savings bonds. and ill have paid into the cpp for 40 years before i retire. so ill have paid for myself thank you very much. i dont buy the "we need more people to survive" stupidity. there is a finite amount of everything on earth. so with your logic we could/would have to stuff canada full (eventually) till we couldnt walk or move to keep sustaining ourselves (exagerated of course, but, hopefully, you get the (big) picture). *edit* nevermind, i looked at your profile and noticed your age. you know everything right now. -
I'm not a Mulroney fan by a long shot, but at least he had the balls to say "lets get it on". Whether he did it or not, and any shadows of it all wont be gone until there is a full blown investigation. I say get it done, move on, and shut up about it. I mean we all know that some politicians will better themselves via their office. Its just the ones we hear about getting caught that hit the news. Bury the hatchet with this one, and same with the whole shawinagin fiasco.....its old news and nobody really gives a shite.

relies on immigration to survive? the country is just artificially man made boundaries. people have survived the world over without immigration for long long times. look at it this way. does earth rely on immigration from other planets to survive? nope. so why would canada? i think the aboriginals survived for centuries just fine without caucasian immigrants. -
Sure they do. Its just in the timing. At the moment or later.....its all in the details.

The fact remains that the state does have the right. They just dont exercise it. They kill murderers in other countries that they travel to, but refuse to enforce proper moral law here in Canada because of all the bleeding hearts.
-
Its not about revenge. It's about right and wrong. And killing a Police Officer should be grounds to have your own life taken. Period. Because if you point your gun at an officer and he shoots and kills you, they are justified. So why would the state not be justified in killing you if you have killed that officer?

A taser is classified as an intermediate weapon-on the same level as OC (pepper) spray, and the collapsible baton. A firearm is a lethal force weapon. Whenever force is used (any force, from hand to hand, to lethal) a use of force report is made out. There is essentially the same amount of paper work involved in a tasering as a shooting....at least for the officer involved. Albeit there is more investigations that take place later with lethal force encounters. A taser is just one more tool to be used when lethal force is not justified, but a lesser use of force, such as grappling, is ineffective or ineffectual. And there are rules of use (such as not tasering someone in a moving vehicle, at the edge of high structure where they could fall and be injured). You need three aspects to justify lethal force: a weapon, ability to use the weapon, and the intent to use the weapon. So if all these three aspects are met, then lethal force can be used. This decision to use lethal force is made, usually in a split second. As for the taser, it is not a quick use/fast draw weapon. It is more of a controlled tool, used to difuse a threat where lethal force is not justified, but soft/hard empty hand tactics are/will not be enough. And yes, sometimes three cops will not be enough to wrestle someone and diffuse the threat. But the taser when used completely immobilizes the suspect/regardless of their size or level of intoxication. So it can be used to cause the least amount of damage in some situations. Its unfortunate, but sometimes people die from being tasered. Just like some people die from a small blow (like seen in the playground fight between children thats been in the news as of late). It can't be foreseen, can't be forecast. If you don't want to be tasered, shot, or even wrestled to the ground by Police, it's very simple. When they ask you to do something, do it. If they have told you to do something that they have no right to do, you can argue it later through appropriate legal challenges. But don't argue/fight with them on scene. Yes sir, no sir, get down on the ground and put your hands behind your back. They don't know you, and need to ascertain the facts in a safe controlled environment. Just do it.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. If you can read this message thank a teacher, If you are reading it in English of your own free will THANK A SOLDIER! It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves under the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag. To all the brave men and women who have dedicated or given their lives to protecting this country and it's freedoms

The Canadian Police Association holds exactly ZERO standing in representing the RCMP when it comes to the labour/management, employer/employee, master/slave relationship between the RCMP brass and the members. Its kind of like joining an athletic association really. The Supreme Court of Canada ruled that the members of the RCMP are exempt from the Canada Labour Code for the purpose of collective bargaining.....which as a side note, so are other certain individuals/industries. As for the death penalty. At the very least, there should be the death penalty for those convicted of killing a Police Officer. Police announce themselves upon arrival. There can be no mistaking who they are when they appear at your door, car, or whatever. When you attack/kill a Police Officer, you are attacking the state.....just like any terrorist. And for attacking the state, killing a man/woman in cold blood (because there is no self defence in killing an officer) then you should be put to death. Period. This would be a step in the right direction. It may not stop the drunken idiot from shooting his girlfriend over a fight over the remote control, but it will make the gang banger/dealer/miscreant from pointing his piece at the Police. POLICE: YOU HATE THEM UNTIL YOU NEED THEM.

its called sterilization. if you want welfare, you agree to be sterilized. might not be pretty, but its the only way to stop the cycle. because after generation after generation after generation of not fixing the problem on their own, this community has not been able to get itself together. alcoholism like cancer, must be cut out and destroyed.

OOPS...I apparently didn't see the fact that BOTH of us have the Fair Trading Act listed in our list of practice areas. So, I apologize for the misleading goose-chase I may have sent people on. In any event, if my realizing my mistake only after sideshow chose the "sexy female lawyer" doesn't reveal it, I am in fact, the less-sexy male half of the partnership. FTA lol! well at least we got to see your female partner.

I dont know why everyone bashes manitoba all the time. We rock. Dirt cheap car insurance (i pay less than 2000 per year for 2 vehicles that are only a few years old), dirt cheap hydro (1600 square foot house, family of 4-never pay more than about 55 per month), dirt cheap water (never pay more than about 125 every 3 months), tuition freeze at university, jobs everywhere (contrary to popular belief), Pharmacare drug program (oh this is a great provincial program-can you say cheap meds for everyone?), great cottage country close to winnipeg (our cottage is only an hour and half drive from the city), cheap housing (compared to alberta, b.c., ontario, etc.) costs, etc. i mean, boo hoo, winter is cold and it sucks. the only thing that sucks is the high telephone bills-but we can blame the tories for privatizing our telephone company (after publicly saying they wouldnt before the election and then lying and doing it) for that.

Most provinces would never have joined Confederation under that condition. It would be great for Central Canada though, they would have the population the seats and the power to make the rest of the country their economic colony. thats the way it pretty much is already-the only difference is, we could eliminate all the unnecessary political positions and duplication of services. as for the constitution, what of it? everybody in the country should have the same rights, so why do we need different laws and rules and regulations in each province? one minimum wage, one set of laws, one national police force, one set of labour standards, one set of licensing standards, one set of taxes, etc. why do we need all the red tape? its just a waste of money.
-
Currently its Alberta. They have oil, its making the province rich, and they act like spoiled kids. But that will change. Manitoba had its wheat barons, and maybe it will be a water/hydro baron one day. B.C. has lumber. Some provinces capitalize on their wealth, some don't. But in the end, the country is just that-one country. I dont know why everyone gets so hung up on artificial boundaries (provincial, etc.) that are really just there to allow little fiefdoms and political agendas to flourish. I would personally prefer the end of provinces, and just have one canada.

quote: First of all, I want to know if Harper DID promise and in writing to Nfld, wouldn't you?? If you had 12 kids and gave each a quarter and some of those kids went out and got jobs to add to their allowance, would you say to that child, well, you have more money coming in than the others so, I'm not going to give you your quarter?? Perhaps all provinces should keep more of the Feds taxes, like no one paying Fed tax and it would be more fair. lol! A better one would be the parents buy a new house (or steal it from some indians) and give each of their kids their own rooms. One of the kids ends up in a room with a bag of money in it (or an oil well) and wants to keep it all for himself. The parents tell him he has to share with his siblings because he only ended up in that room on the luck of the draw. The boy then whines, complains, and kicks and screams and threatens to run away every time he has to share the money.

Has Christianity made people more civilized?
sideshow replied to August1991's topic in Religion & Politics
christianity is the religion of the day-it will die. it was a rough rip off of zorastrianism and was the vehicle to pillage other peoples property-just like other religions, political ideologies, capitalist promoters, etc.-same games, different people, new clothes. makes me laugh. nothing like tithing 10% so someone can buy another jet to fly to australia to "spread the gospel" lol.
