Something's Happening To CBC Radio
gerryhatrick replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
CBC was ham-handed for sure with their bulletin board. Filtering software is about the dumbest thing out there for a public board. It is no resubstitute for a live moderator. They had a live moderator also. The point of the article was that when I evaded the filter with an innocuous post, the moderator manually deleted the post. That showed some serious bias. Um.....who cares? Your antics on a bulletin board 3 years ago are irrelevant to this topic and to 99.999% of the population. -

Congratulations, but that ranks someplace between "who cares?" and "so what?". Your effort to make it relevant to the topic was good for a chuckle though! -
I originally referred to several women who are scantily aware of daily politics. You referred to that attribute, so I assumed you were not appreciating the fact that I use several women as the barometer. I hope I have explained the situation about this particular woman (as well as the other women) so you can better understand they're not "completely ignorant to politics and Canadian issues", as you incorrectly assumed. I don't understand why you would find that remotely interesting.

Women, not woman. And I did not say they were completely ignorant of politics and Canadian issues. They're "scantily" aware of "daily politics", which is to say they are like MOST Canadians in that they don't follow it closely. They are still very intelligent and able to pick up political issues and are well aware of and opinionated those political issues that remain in the spotlight. This is, as I said, more in line with most Canadians than someone like myself who follows politics and reads all the headlines and half the internet articles each day. Understand better now? The fact that this one woman who knows little about Dion and has no political partisanship (she's as likely to vote CPC as any other party) said she "loved him" after watching him is very significant. It is a first impression from someone in tune to subtle cues that lead to trust - a woman.

Dion dismantles the attacks on him.

Here's the youtube link of Dion with Mansbridge on "Your Turn" talking about dual citizenship. -
Is Harper the counterpart of Stalin
gerryhatrick replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Come one Gerry - The comparison between Dion and Kerry may or may not be reasonable - but comparing two leftish politicians in two similar democratic countries is a legimate topic for discussion. Not really. The comparison is justified in the parodied topic because that poster identified them both as doing a "flip flop". It's childish nonsense, the only purpose of which is to mock Dion. I sense a real desperation on the Canadian right. They're stacking up Dion to Harper, and don't like what they see....and the only thing they can think of doing is a swiftboat routine. Swiftboat routine. The Irony there is easy to spot! -
http://www.canada.com/topics/news/politics...ac-eecf9259425b They've tried to vilify him for his dual citizenship. That garbage, started by a far-rightwinger, flowed through the gutter during 3+ news cycles. No effect. I actually think it probably helps him, since people are annoyed by such petty attacks. My dyed in the wool NDP co-worker plans to have a chat with Pat Martin. She's a dual citizen and is quite bothered that her hero has made this an issue. I have several political barometers who I go to to ask about politics when I want to know what the average Canadian is thinking. They're women, and only scantily aware of the daily politics, and have a foot in both political worlds as far as issues go. None of them are partisan voters. They are all telling me they like Dion very much. One of them saw him on the CBC "your turn" and she says "I love" him! He has a real appeal, and that comes through quite clearly. I think all the CPC can hope for now is that Dion has a tragic accident. Anything short of that and he's our next PM.

Stupid flame bait. This kind of garbage is like spam. Try to reach for a slightly higher level of discourse C.

We have a lot of problems with the rightwing foisting their political correctness on us. -
Fascism-wise? Another parody of an equally-useless topic, brought to you by the fine people at Expose the Idiocy Inc. For those outraged looking for a place to express your outrage, I give you the source: http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//index.php?showtopic=7456

Anti-Semitic Smear Campaign Against Rae Exposed!
gerryhatrick replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Given your next comment: You're appearing quite dishonest in making the first. Besides which, it's a generalized third-party insult. It deserves to be reported assuch, which I have done so. I hope in future betsy you will keep your comments out of the gutter as this one was. -
Did anyone catch Dion on CBC's "Your Turn" segmant last night (Thursday)? He was excellent, and dismantled two of the main attacks on him thus far. 1. His English was excellent. Very smooth and very understandable. He's obviously a quick student. 2. He squashed the argument against his dual citizenship. a. hundreds of thousands of Canadians, if not millions, are also dual citizens due to the birth of a parent. His French citizenship was given to him by his mother. b. He is 100% loyal to Canada. c. It was never spoken about when Turner was PM. He got Brittish citizenship by way of a parents birth. He was articulate and clear on every issue. He was funny too. This guy will be hard for Harper to beat. VIDEO: This link will probably change in a day or two, but then it will be on youtube I'm sure. Move the scroll bar about 1/3 of the way along to skip to Dion: http://www.cbc.ca/video/index.html#

So, you have no respect for someone who raises human rights issues with countries that are violating them? During Chretien's tenure he met with the Chinese Prez EIGHT TIMES and raised human rights each and every time. It's not necessary to use megaphone diplomacy to whip another nation into doing what you want, and it never works. So no, I have no respect for what he did. It was dumb. And I think it was probably only ever intended to appeal to a portion of Canadian voters who are not well-informed about international politics.

Harper vs. Dion in National Debates
gerryhatrick replied to mikedavid00's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think that it doesn't bother poeple because people don't see him becoming Priminster. Keep telling yourself that. Actually I cringe to think of him in the debates... I also cringed when I saw him speak in the house.. i mean there's bad English, and then there's REALLY, REALLY, BAD ENGLISH. WTF kind of topic is this? You're taking an exchange from another topic and making a new topic out of it. I'm not a huge stickler for rules, but that has shades of cross-posting. In any event, isn't it just a little pointless? -
Why do you guys complicate things?

gerryhatrick replied to mikedavid00's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I am enjoying Dion's first days as leader of the Liberal party. And I'm sensing a real desperation from the CPC and NDP. i.e. critisizing him for having French citizenship. I ran that by all my political barometers at work and all of them...even the rightwingers...said basically "yeah, so?" Pat Martin is a swiftboater, nothing more. -
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16065625 I would laugh if this didn't make me want to cry. In case you missed the irony, soldiers are working IN IRAQ, AWAY FROM FAMILY for 7 days a week, 365 days a year, often for more than a year. This rightwing eliteist complains that having to work 5 DAYS A WEEK for ONE MONTH is going to put a strain on his family???? It's a typical right-of-center only care about yourself kind of attitude.

Will Stéphane Dion ever be PM of Canada?
gerryhatrick replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Gerry, you're such a pushover for any left-sounding intellectual who comes along. Oh yeah, you just know me so well. Don't be a fool. Listen/read what I'm telling you. It's the truth. Consider it. I'm not being flippent, as you are. -

You're definitely going waaaay too far in the future. I'm talking about this spring. I understand your retreat into humor. The situation is not good for partisan Conservatives.
