Actually, that was the first thing I mentioned to the wife....no ring. Weird how you notice the little things.
-
Are you kidding? Dion got killed in the debate! The man should learn to speak one of Canada's official languages. He was completely boxed in: Steve had him on one side, and Jack had him on the other. Down in flames. Harper majority just became more likely.
-
Dion is dead politically. His wife said so. I watched Global the night before last, and when Dion's wife was interviewed, she just came out and said that if he isn't elected PM he will leave politics. Since more people than not believe that Dion will MAYBE be the official opposition, what reason could they possibly have to vote for someone who's wife said they will quit? Doesn't make any sense, but I'll be glad to see him go.

I'm sure I'll break out in hives for saying this... I agree with jdobbin. Damn that hurt.

Harper should name Layton to his cabinet as "Minister of Taliban Negotiations", as long as ALL expenditures he makes are vetted through the Canadian Taxpayers Federation. Jack has, and always has, had absolutely zero chance of forming even the smallest minority government. And he DOES spout "ideals" and ideas without thought of implementation or consequence because he realizes his chances of forming government.
-
He won't do a day in prison. My money's on his lawyer (that I'll have to pay for) chasing the "not criminally responsible" BS that plays so well in Canadian courts. He'll be found nuts at the time and spend a month or two in a mental hospital and then some shrink will say he's no longer a threat to society and he'll walk. Anyone want to take the bet?
-
You must be from Central Canada. No Albertan would think up a tax scheme and then bitch that it's lost revenue because it isn't implemented. "If I could tax each .25 glass of lemonade that Suzie makes and sells by $10.00, and there's 1000 glasses sold each year, that's $10,000.00 dollars a year in lost taxes! What the hell is the government doing with Canada's lemonade????" It's Alberta's oil and we'll do whatever the hell we want with it. Including.........wait for it.........allow it to be sold at world price. None of your damn business.

Not true. We also blame things on Liberals and pot-heads.
-
And if the referendum were to be 50+1% in favor of seperation, you would support the motion? Canada has NOT been good for Alberta. Alberta has been necessary for Canada. And of course you can't say exactly the same in Kwebek...nothing anyone in Canada does is ever good enough for Kwebek. Poor, poor Kwebek. Downtrodden to the last.

Now hold on a minute August. First of all, while I enjoy Kimmy's posts...she is young and through the years when Alberta was in the toilet, she was learning to use one. Do not ever judge the generous spirit of Albertans - toward other Albertans. Kimmy wouldn't know step one of how to "put me in my place" and neither do you. I also, most assuredly, do NOT forget that the world oil price can go down. In other threads I have relayed my all-too-real experiences from desperate times in this province. It is obvious by your posts that you have absolutely no idea regarding Albertan "mentality". No insult intended, just fact. Albertans DID do it (create success) all ourselves, in spite of what eastern Canada did to us. I am quite sure you will call that revisionist thinking or something similar. Again, that is your best-guess opinion. Albertans have shared, most of the time unwillingly, with the rest of Canada for generations. Would our seperation greatly affect the ROC? Financially, you bet. Who would fund Kwebek's stay at home (men, women and children) daycare programs? Who would pay for fountains in Shawinigate? Who would pay for no-transfer-of-goods "Pro-Kwebek" programs? I have never denied that Ontario has been a contributor to the theft known as Transfer Payments. That being said, per capita, Ontario is nowhere even close to contributions from Alberta and once they become a "have not" then all the burden will be concentrated on us...us meaning me and my kids. We are nothing more than a colony in the eyes of the east.

Sounds a lot like the Political Compass test.

Canada has very, very little in the way of oil reserves. Alberta, however, has vast amounts and the rest of the Canadian bloodsuckers should keep their minds occupied with what they DO own - Bombardier and Tim Hortons. If anything, the Alberta government should double or triple the sales cost of oil (taxes) and credit back Albertans on their tax returns. That way we remain prosperous and the everyone else can support our driving SUV's, boats and motorhomes. It's our resource, not yours. Remember, natural resources are the jurisdiction of the provinces not the federal government.

Canadian's Attitudes Towards Immigrants
Hydraboss replied to M.Dancer's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You missed the most important question: "We make too many accomodations to visible minorities in Canada" ACROSS THE BOARD "TOTAL AGREE". Rich, poor, old, young, educated, trailer park... doesn't matter. So, it's not that Canadians don't want immigration. Canadians just want the visible minorities to quit getting a free ride and receiving accomodation that run-of-the-mill Canadians can only dream of. Reverse discrimination on a mass scale. -
Thanks for the NCC link Norm. I looked around and it's...like...well...it's almost like they don't like him! No, really! Although I imagine the site is usually non-partisan, there are a few sections that almost seem anti-Harper! Can you believe that?!?
-
Well that election was a waste of two good Smirnoff's. Depressing.
-
Taft was just declared with 46% in his riding. Only 46%? What happened there?
-
So what happened to the "Edmonton will go PC and Calgary will go Liberal"? That's all the pundits have been talking about for the last week.
-
Last update, Taft tied at 40% in his own riding. Now THAT's funny!
-
Not a chance of a breakthrough. When your choices are Left, More Left and Really Left for the main three parties, Alberta will always go to the right. The WRAP will make inroads, but not any of consequence.
-
I hadn't actually thought of what you might look like... ...but, okay, I agree.
-
Call Brian Mason. He'll steal a bus and drive you to the polling station himself. If you voted for him,, that would be a 100% increase.
-
Okay, predictions only count if they're posted before 8pm (close of polls). 54 PC 18 Lib 7 NDP 4 WRAP 52% turnout
-
Untrue. Anyone can buy private health insurance. In fact, most people already have it. Manulife Sun Life Blue Cross Employer Health Benefits Kwebek has one of the most advanced examples of private health care. The courts have upheld that decision in your province.
-
The only real debate in this province is whether the PC's get a minority or a majority. Chances are there will be leadership reviews like crazy next month. The real fun will be watching the NDP get their communist socialist asses beaten by the Wildrose Alliance party. There's actually a pool at work ($5 to get in; I'm in for $10). Monday will be fun.
