Considering Canada "near death" is completely bizarre. Every nation has some problems.

In the same way that John F. Kennedy was not loved by everyone in the US at the time he became President. His policies may not have been loved by all, but the man is an American legend. Canadians are fascinated by Trudeau's persona and charisma. Chrétien is similar.
