Police entrapment: Nuttall and Korody freed
Spiderfish replied to jacee's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Really? So when she says "Fight them, light or heavy, with whatever you can. If you have a stone, throw it. If you have a bomb, drop it." you figure these are merely loving words from a kind and gentle soul? I'm sure any term used would likely offend your delicate sensibilities. Your reference to "derogatory slurs" is a nice touch though, really drives home the point that I must be an insensitive bigot and hater. good play. There's every possibility that the police went too far, especially considering that this was the rulling determination of the judge. I'm not trying to defend the police, my point was that these two have clearly shown to be willing harm to innocent people, and no matter if it was entrapment or not, they still had free-will to make good decisions which they chose not to do. I can't disagree, obviously their tactics were flawed. Yup. BTW, since we're bringing up spelling and punctuation, what's with the extra periods you constantly place at the end of your posts? -
Police entrapment: Nuttall and Korody freed

These idiots were not forced into anything. They're both dangerous and have clearly indicated a strong desire to harm or kill people. I'm trying to imagine all the excuses everyone will be making if and when they succeed in their mission. I mean, if they ever succeed in blowing a bunch of people up or running them over or whatever, it will kind of be on us since its not like we weren't aware of their motivations or intentions. Of course, there will be those in such an instance who will blame the cops for improper procedure resulting in failing to protect people. Can't blame the lunitic would-be terrorists, they're the victims. -
Solar-powered flight around the world
Spiderfish replied to jacee's topic in Health, Science and Technology
I'm certainly no expert in this field, here's a link to the article by Solar Industry Magazine which contains the information in my above post. There's no mention of amounts, however it is stated that it's important that an alternative to sulfur hexaflouride be found. -
Solar-powered flight around the world

We are constantly told that climate change and environmental pollution are problems that are in need of immediate remedial action. We have to be sure these new advancements are not smoke and mirrors, and are not brought forth at the cost of further damage to the environment. In addition to silicon tetrachloride (an extremely toxic substance that reacts violently with water, causes skin burns, and is a respiratory, skin and eye irritant), the manufacture of solar panels also produces and involves the use of sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and nitric acid, toxic phosphine and arsine gas, phosphorous oxychloride, phosphorous trichloride, boron bromide and boron trichloride, as well as lead. Also, sulfur hexaflouride is used in the reactors used in silicone production. The Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change considers sulfur hexafluoride to be the most potent greenhouse gas per molecule; one ton of sulfur hexafluoride has a greenhouse effect equivalent to that of 25,000 tons of CO2. -
Not if you're a Liberal MP. No debate...period!

Oh, sorry for the misunderstanding.. So just to be clear, there's lefty wing nut, left wing biased, moderate centre left/right, and foaming at the mouth. Got it. I agree with you, all the moderators here tend to be somewhat centre/left wing biased, with the exception of Kimmy who is likely moderate right. There are no mods foaming at the mouth.
-
....by implying that anyone who isn't on the left or in the moderate middle is " foaming at the mouth crazy". Brilliant!! You're every bit as guilty of partisan pigeon-holing and rhetoric as anyone. Seems a bit hypocritical maybe? Kimmy obviously has her biases as we all do, I've agreed with her and disagreed with her on topics in the past. I think she's doing a great job in her current role despite wails of disapproval from certain individuals at certain times.

It's like a damned Trump Rally around here.

Another Mass Shooting
Spiderfish replied to Big Guy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I agree, and have put forward similar arguments as well in the past that a person’s perspective dictates their point of view. I’ve suggested as much on this forum actually, and was quickly informed that there is a societal norm in which all members of society are required to conform. This societal norm comes from social standards that are created and set by the people and their government, and anyone who holds subjective opinions outside of this norm are outcasts that should be shunned. Society in the last 20-40 years has gone from viewing homosexuality as a mental disorder (a viewpoint stated even by the most celebrated socialist our great county has ever seen and the founder of our revered health care system, Tommy Douglas), to something that should not only be accepted as a social norm, but in fact celebrated. Apparently, we have no right to hold ideological points of view outside the social norm, which makes your inquiry and corresponding viewpoint moot. Get with the program. .... Of course, this theory seems to contradict the fact that viewpoints change over time. On second thought…never mind, thank goodness for people who think outside the box and don’t live with their head in the sand. -
I guess Tootoo didn't get the memo. Open and transparent is the new MO, the boss campaigned on it.

Laureen would have been pilloried if she had of made an embarrassing spectacle of herself that way...and it would have been well-earned criticism. Who do these people think they are? Good grief. If no one is going to tell her she can't sing, I would be in favor of getting her some singing lessons at taxpayer expense.

Financial aid and disaster assistance is going to come on multiple levels from Federal and Provincial as well as through insurance. I think the prepaid debit cards are a smart idea and are an efficient means of getting much needed aid to those affected right away. Concerns about who gets this immediate funding is of little significance at this point, as pretty much everyone in Ft Mac has been affected and is need of immediate assistance regardless of income. You mean partisans like those who invoke Harper's name and use it as an opportunity to negatively criticize past "stupid tax cuts" in a thread about a wildfire in Ft Mac?

Loud and proud... go for it. Like I said, whatever gets you going.

When first and last months rent and a months utilities costs you north of $8,000, a six figure wage doesn't go nearly as far as you'd expect it to.

And waay off topic. But whatever floats your boat.

Really?? Have you seen any of the video footage of the "evacuation"? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLBUK2NDmSs I suggest jumping from a burning bus and running for one's life may be the result of insufficient warning and is certainly far from orderly and organized. Luck played a major role in everyone escaping with their lives.

I'm kind of leaning toward the inadequate resources possibility... NDP cuts fire-fighting budget while predicting "catastrophic" conditions

I suspect we can rule out the possibility that she is 100% remorseful, particularly given that she chose to identify herself again as Leanne Teale, a name her and Bernardo took which was taken from a serial killer movie. If she was remorseful, one would think she would make every effort to put a little distance between herself and that name. Karla Homolka cunning in her manipulations

People are getting fed up with natives
Spiderfish replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If a person has no income because they decide they don't want to work even if they are fully able, would this not equate to a choice to go hungry? If they choose crime over earning a living, how is this the fault of anyone but the person making the choice? And why on earth would we choose enable this destructive behavior? -
The PBO back in December was projecting deficit numbers out past 2021, in stark contrast to the finance offices projected budget surplus numbers starting in 2019, and declared that the Liberal government under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is relying on too rosy an outlook, particularly for the years 2019-20 and 2020-21 where there was an 11 billion dollar disparity between the PBO and the Liberal's projections. I'm not sure what crystal ball the Liberals are gazing into when coming up with their projections, and apparently neither does the Parliamentary Budget Officer, as even he has been left scratching his head in bewilderment. One thing I do know, I won't be putting much stock in any of Morneau's projections from here on in. I certainly wouldn't hold my breath waiting for any budget surpluses 5 years from now!! And for the record, I'm not necessarily against some budget deficits if revenues are down. It's likely adjustments would have been made regardless of who is in charge. I would however, like to see some restraint on spending as well.
-
All it takes is heart to grow an economy, haven't you heard?
-
After delivering a budget deficit 3 times what they campaigned on , it would be understandable for any reasonable person to doubt the credibility of anything he says and foolish to put any stock into any 5 year projection he comes up with.
-
From the linked article within your source: "Liberals won power with a campaign that promised new spending based on four years of deficits totalling $26.1-billion. Now in office, the Liberals are budgeting for five years of deficits totalling more than $113-billion" Balancing the budget by 2019 was only a part of their promise they broke. They also ran on an election platform that declared deficits of $9.8 billion in 2016, $9.5 billion in 2017, and $5.7 billion in 2018. This budget appears to be a departure from this. I also can't seem to locate the memo that indicated that they were planning on scrapping the child fitness tax credit. Maybe in an effort to compensate for this and promote healthy lifestyle choices for kids, they can bring in more taxes, a junk food tax, a tv tax, maybe a computer or electronic device tax....After all a stick is always more effective than a carrot.

Donald Trump & Justin Trudeau
Spiderfish replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
No, it's more like for example when Katherine Wynne talks about Trudeau's promise to bring in refugees and says "What we can't give in to is allowing security to mask racism. That's the danger, and that somehow talking about security allows us to tap into that racist vein, when that isn't who we are" See this is a generalization that basically says, if you have concerns with refugees coming into Canada in large numbers, you're really a racist trying to mask it with the facade of security. It's quite a caustic way of dealing with an opposing opinion, and is an implied accusation that is far removed from being merely a mild criticism or difference of opinion.
