  1. Too many respected pollsters are in agreement for all of them to be way off the mark. We are headed, unfortunately, for a Liberal majority/near majority.
  2. It looks increasingly likely that it will be a liberal majority. Two respected pollsters have them at 38% - majority territory.
  3. It is regrettable that a principled stance is sullied by 'support' like yours. Nothing, repeat nothing, is going to prevent Stephen Harper's political demise. My object is to keep an obvious strong Liberal plurality result in the ballpark and avoid any majority outcome.
  4. I want a Liberal minority propped up by NDP support. This will serve to facilitate Trudeau's campaign promises while holding the insider scumbags away from their traditional assault on the public purse. Why run real risk when an outcome in the public interest is at hand?
  5. Thanks for the reminder of the stench wafting from the Liberal war room the moment the national campaign co-chair emailed his oil industry client on how to lobby his expected gov't - a week before the election.
  6. If as you say recent polls have been all wrong, why do you continue to obsess over them? I am all but certain you will sacrifice an outcome in the public interest for a 4 year majority by Trudeau and his salivating insiders.
  7. For someone who hangs on every poll result your sudden doubts about their veracity is puzzling. Surely, the prospect of electing a gov't in the public interest over rides unfounded concerns of an eleventh hour, death bed comeback by the Conservatives.
  8. Would a near front running Tory gov't debase itself by cozying up to Ford Nation wing nuts? Of course not - desperate parties don't continue or form gov'ts - and Harper's now defeated regime is no exception.
  9. For many this late Liberal surge is a mixed blessing. First, the Darth Vader of Canada's politics will finally meet his just fate - ignominious defeat including the final absurd act of holding the Ford Nation's hand in a final desperate act to retain his southern Ontario seat base. Trudeau deserves full marks for ending this national disgrace. Unfortunately it is not all great news. Our national love-in with son of PET was shattered days ago as memories of sponsorship corruption reminded all that Liberal rhetoric might be less about 'real change' than assembling the 'pigs at the trough' for another insider run at the treasury. This last scenario could largely be prevented by electing another ABC party to bolster a Liberal minority while also preventing it's excesses via an informal, bill by bill, coalition. It is the only election outcome that protects the public interest - not just the Liberal party's interest. To the extent this morning's polls suggest a Liberal majority is imminent, Canadians will have missed the opportunity to elect gov't acting in the public interest - and not acting in the interest of party insiders.
  10. Here is an interesting take on this Gagnier issue: Seems most of the negative fallout will be in Quebec, home of the Liberal sponsorship scandal still sensitive with French Canadians and also home to the NDP's voter base. Could the Liberal misstep stop the NDP bleeding?
  11. Mulcair declared in answer to a question about possible cooperation with a Harper minority, "not a snowball's chance in hell". Trudeau has expressed similar sentiments. Any Harper budget is unlikely and would be unceremoniously defeated.
  12. In the off chance Conservatives have a plurality any attempt to form a gov't will be met with opposition parties non-confidence. The only way Harper can be guaranteed a fifth term is to win a majority and that is absolutely not in the works.
  13. Could there be a more telling way of saying the end is near?
  14. That is quite true - those votes have not been influenced by the Gagnier issue. Of greater concern to those not wanting a Liberal majority - does the astonishing size of this advance poll portend disaster for Harper and, by extension, another factor favoring a Liberal majority?
  15. A surging party with 140 seats is a very possible 170 seat party in 3 days. Not pushing back now risks a Liberal majority not in the public interest.
  16. Don't lose any sleep over Harper winning a plurality - he has his campaign-long 30-31% core and no one else. You can take that one to the bank. The above leaves open the possible options for a non-Tory gov't alternative including the recent possibility of surging Liberal support ending with a Liberal majority. Such an outcome is not in the public interest. The Gagnier resignation makes it clear the 'pigs at the trough' gang would have unfettered access to the treasury in a majority situation. Doesn't it make sense for another ABC party to have bill by bill oversight to keep Trudeau's excesses to a minimum? It is the only outcome that is truly in the public interest. After all, isn't the public interest what it's all about?
  17. It's too early in a too late campaign to expect anything of consequence - other than blunting surging Liberal support by 1-2%. Call it a no-majority insurance policy.
  18. After finding out Trudeau hired a non-registered oil industry lobbyist/employee as his national campaign co-chair, and bearing in mind the sponsorship scandal, why are you in such a frenzy to see Liberals attain a majority - and unfettered access to the treasury? A Liberal minority with NDP principled oversight is the obvious answer to all anti-Harper voters. For this to happen the Liberal surge must be further blunted.
  19. You can't be serious. We are 3 days out and Tories have zero chance at forming gov't. What can happen is Liberal momentum will push into majority territory - an outcome nearly as bad as a Tory re-election, as this prominent resignation so vividly demonstrates. Craig Oliver of CTV just reported overnight polling suggests this conflict of interest ('pigs at the trough') issue might be having a blunt effect on the Liberal surge - a sure sign the election gods, at least, have the public interest in mind. Contrast that to Harper's 10 year scumbag gov't and Trudeau's unforgiveable mistake of hiring an oil industry lobbyist as his national campaign co-chair. Join the late effort to apply brakes to the Liberal surge.
  20. Do you agree this resignation raises the spectre of 'pigs at the trough', bitter memories of past scandals and a sobering reality as to whose benefit a Liberal gov't would act. As I said a week ago, Liberal or Conservative, is largely a matter of changing the pigs at the trough - a fact you agreed with then. Why would you want either of these parties to command a majority? The public interest demands a Liberal minority supported by the NDP to both rid the nation of Harper and to save the Liberal party from itself in terms of corruption. This resignation serves to hold Liberals to a needed minority. Why have you suddenly become an old line party booster?
  21. Less than 2 hours ago you stated this matter would have no affect on the campaign (see Federal Polls thread, post #5287). Does this mean you are now out of denial?
  22. Whatever 'magic' Trudeau's campaign has generated to date much of it is likely now lost on voters as this attempt at influence peddling hits them trip hammer hard with sponsorship scandal memories.
  23. I can't help but take a measure of satisfaction in this forums prolific - and usually well informed - liberal posters now in a complete state of denial over the potential impact of this matter. It will serve to keep the Liberals to a minority - with the NDP holding the leash, thus assuring corruption is minimal.
  24. You can have all the names by googling 'Liberal sponsorship scandel". So answer my question - is Trudeau's leadership an assurance the pigs will not again assemble at the trough?
  25. Maybe a bit for emphasis A 2 year Liberal minority serves two very important political goals. First, it fulfils the over-arching desire of voters to rid the nation of Stephen Harper. Second, this scandel will serve to keep Trudeau's minority on a leash - a majority would embolden the ever present 'sponsorship gang' to resume it's self-enriching agenda. Surely, Waldo, you didn't believe Trudeau's fresh face banished the ever present corrupt gang?
