I'd be careful what you'd say... Martin may have learned from Mulroney, when Mulroney was going to be investigated for the huge airbus scandal, he just sued the Canadain government for $50 Million for slander... and they shut up... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, Mulroney WON!! Shame on you Liberals, could you give us back our millions please? Or are you using them to fund this election cause you can't raise any funds now that BIG business can't contribute to your election?

Harper offers to stand in for Martin, take on Bloc
lovecanada replied to Kiraly's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Le Soleil The idea is so bizarre (and why do I think that? - it's not bizarre at all) that I'm sure TQS will follow it up. Watch for Layton to insist that he wants to be present too. Now then, I'm not so sure the ratings will be much. Only several hundred thousand watched the first French debate. No, that's not the issue at all. Harper has no pretentions about his French. During the first French debate, several times he asked for questions to be repeated. This is seen well. His grammar is precise. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This is huge for Harper. The optics are positive, he can't lose by doing this. He might even be perceived as courageous outside of Quebec. Martin appears to be running from Duceppe and his desperation in Quebec is compounded by this analysis released today by Strategic Counsel for CTV and G&M: "with the current numbers that they are polling in Quebec, the Liberals would be reduced to seven seats and this number would not include Mr. Martin's own seat. Right now, there's a risk that the PM might lose his own seat." Unbelievable. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Wow wouldn't that be something! Harper can't lose in this debate, the ROC will see this in a very positive light! -

No gain without risk - an excellent move for Harper. Even if Duceppe talks circles around him, his French should be good enough to make enough points that will demonstrate to Quebequers that there is more to Canada than the Liberal party. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I love this move, what does Stephen have to lose? Votes in Quebec, or Ontario voters standing up and taking notice? Is a win win situation for Harper! -
Killing myself laughing on that response. Think you have her number Slim, but burn it LOL

Alberta Leading in Healthcare.
lovecanada replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It only took 20 million by the Alberta government not the BILLIONS that Martin is pouring into the provinces without results! How can you be so bitter about something so good for health care?? Cause it was Alberta that did it? Get over it, anything that can help people in pain, IS GOOD, I don't care what party did it! -
Truth.. I'm voting Conservative!! Try and sue that!!!
-
I think Martin looked tired, like my Dad, or Grandpa and had no policies to offer, just slamming the opposition. I thought Layton won the debate, I kept on saying to myself,...if he wasn't NDP, I could vote for him! Harper might have lacked emotion, but he got his policies across to me, so I am better informed about there platform now.

I have to agree, he's no millionaire! But, wait, who is?? ummm Martin??

Time after time NOONE with any party mentions that low income families already get a huge break in daycare! Low income/single parents pay maybe 22% of the cost of daycare. (I paid $350 a monthtwelve years ago for a dayhome, single parents/low income were paying $80 a month). I on the other hand because I am married, in a stable relationship and work, pay the FULL price! How is that fair? I personally love the Conservative program, only it's too late for me. Any new parents should love it!
-
It smacks of something, let's see, STATE controlled, or UNIVERSAL if you like that word better, daycare...don't we have one black hole called medicare already? At least we need medicare, but universal daycare for 25% of the population? And we parents are told by Reid that we can't be trusted to spend daycare money? Sure, cause we really really TRUST the Liberals to tell us what to do, how to do it, and who to vote for! No thanks, not in my Canada!

First serious gaffe of the election campaign? Thank God for our "fair and balanced" Canadian Press. They are often good for a chuckle. When a reporter asked PMPM if it was a Christmas wreath or a holiday wreath (Martin was buying a wreath), there was an uncomfortable silence before PMPM blurted out, "It's a $240 wreath." How embarrassing that a 67 y/o Christian man was too PC to say "Christmas wreath". But not a serious gaffe. And Paul 'Mr Enviroment' Martin calling on the US to have a "global conscience" regarding Kyoto--when Canada's greenhouse gas emissions have risen 24.4% since the 90s (compared to 13% for the US) is not a serious gaffe. After all, he attacked the US, which--in Liberal Land--is a good thing! Yay PMPM. I won't even bring up the fact that the Martin campaign jet--a Boeing 727--consumes 1289 gallons of fuel per hour, whilst the Harper campaign jet--an Airbus A320--consumes only 767 gallons per hour. Oops. I just did bring it up. Got that? Canadians are too stupid to be trusted with their own money. They cannot be trusted to decide on their choice of childcare; they will "blow" it on beer, popcorn, or a new car. The state needs to take our money, spend it for us, and have liberal elitists guide us dumb Canadians towards govt-run unionized daycare. Canadian parents cannot be trusted. Trust the Liberal Party; they have earned our trust, haven't they? Reid also said "there were no controls towards what that money [CPC annual $1200 towards childcare for families] goes towards." Got that? There are no controls on how you spend YOUR OWN damn money! I would link to John Duffy's remarks, but the "fair and balanced" CTV has already yanked the Question Period video from their website. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This is going to seriously tick off parents!! Is foot in mouth disease contagious? Reid said it and Duffy supported it? Unbelievable arrogance!

Well I love your BUNGLING attempt idea and your Liberals broke serious rules idea too! Are you a closet Conservative?? It's okay in this cutlure of entitlement. The Liberals are so sure they can get away with anything they are ignoring the reaction of the everyday voter so this election should be fun

For the Liberals And Paul Martin, I Give Thanks
lovecanada replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Oh poor Sparhawk, your agrument isn't even an agrument. There is no response to the Liberals, especially Martin, they are so corrupt there is no way you can convince me that I should vote for them! -
That graph tells you nothing - if you think it does you clearly never learned how to analyze data and draw accurate conclusions. The based on the current information it does appear that the Liberals bungled the handling the PR around the annoucement - in an effort to try and get immediate positive responses from interested lobby groups they informed them that something was coming down. This started the rumour mill which in turn led to mass speculation. This was not a case of Liberals trying to allow their buddies to make a quick buck. If it was then I am sure we would have know nothing about, no rumours would have been circulating and you can bet that no one would have called CARP to tell them what was going to happen. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well seeing as I teach statistics, based on the FACTS I see from that graph, No one can dispute that there is a HUGE upsurge in the stocks! So, where am I wrong in my thinking? How else can you explain this graph? Oh and Liberals were not allowing their buddies to make a quick buck?? This has me laughing so hard I can hardly type! Right the Liberals would have covered it up , but one CARP employee did tell the truth!!

Government is already sticking their noses into to much of our business...Stay out of my decisions for my children! Another black hole has been born if we elect the Liberals..let's throw money at medicare and daycare!

Paul Martin's Image As a Thief/Blogs
lovecanada replied to rbacon's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
[ Do you think part of Harpers hidden agenda is to steal my money and give it to his Party? Man, I just hate it when that happens. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Dang that must be it!! But why hasn't Belinda told that Liberals about it yet?? Might the Liberals have a "hidden agenda?" -
Paul Martin's Image As a Thief/Blogs
lovecanada replied to rbacon's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Okay, as a voter, no one can make me think this was a sudden surge in the markets because income trusts had been debated already. Have the Liberals not figured out yet that the internet is a powerful tool and we are watching?? -
Well that graph speaks very loudly to me as a voter! Something smells fishy!
-
Shish, backword thinking makes my eyes blur! With the Liberals they don't get anything anyways from their proposal. Can you seriously tell me that STATE daycare is better than a stay at home Mom? If you think that, where have family values gone? What happens when the STATE daycare workers strike..where do your children go then? This is a big issue with me because I paid full price to put my child in a dayhome (never daycare). Other Moms were subsidized, no one talks about that! The lower income families/single Mom's are already getting a huge break here, so I love the Conservative proposal because finally I am getting a break! And remember that lower income families also get a child tax bonus cheque that most middle income earners don't qualify for or if they do they are getting $20 per month.

For the Liberals And Paul Martin, I Give Thanks
lovecanada replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well it looks to me like there is all sorts of support from respectful media that Martin is cheating and that retractors here have no real ground to stand on except their seeming hated of Conservatives. -
Why does noone talk about how single parents/lower incomes parents are already subsidized by the provincial governments? Single moms are paying way less than working moms already. I paid the full price because I was working but other Mom's paid way less cause they were on social security. How does this encourage me to work? I should just claim welfare because I am better off by doing it!

Well, by reading all your replies to this topic, it seems like Martins announcement was a big hit If the Liberals get back in they have just made 100's of law abiding people criminals. I heard him say that anyone not giving up their guns would have them take away by force if necessary.
-
All this "evidence" shows is that stock players were deliberately spreading a rumour in order cause a spike in stocks that they had already bought. There is no evidence that these players knew what the annoucement would be because they could make a profit even if they were wrong by selling their position before Goodale announced anything. The fact that Stockhouse is notorious for 'pump and dump' scams gives more credibility to this interpretation. If these people really knew that the news was going to be good then they would have kept their mouths shut and sold the next day. The fact that they spread the rumor early, IMO, proves that they did not know for certain that the news was going to be good. It is possible that someone in Goodale's office annouced that Goodale would be making an annoucement after market closed and that they failed to follow procedure when it came to notifying the various media outlets. In which case, somebody did make a mistake, however, there is a big difference between making a mistake and deliberately leaking information. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well even if we assume it was a mistake, lots of people made lots of money on this mistake! A Liberal mistake, again??

What Form Should Tax Cuts Take
lovecanada replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Who does the GST cut really help anyway Scriblett? Martins idea for cutting the income tax is a much more solid plan. Ask all the economists who agreed with him. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Don't you know that if you ask 5 economists 1 question about tax cuts (or anything) you will get 5 VERY different opinions? And why was scrapping the GST so good when the Liberals proposed it and won a majorityon it, but now it isn't??
