They sound like Albertans to me!!

I have to agree with everything you say The only "scary" thing is blind Liberal followers.

I can't understand how "getting rid of the GST" was a good thing when the Liberals were proposing it in 1993, but now it's not a good thing?? You can't have it both ways. And, people who buy luxury items are paying the GST on them and a luxury tax!!

Finally Some Sense on Health Care
lovecanada replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
And do you think that the average Canadian understands that distinction? All I care about is, if I need care, that it's available to me in some form, any form as quickly as possible! I could not imagine being diagnosed with cancer and having to wait for treatment. But, thousands of Canadians are facing just that everyday. So, anything that can stop that kind of suffering has to be considered. -
You got to love this one, I like it better than the 199 Liberal scandals.

Finally Some Sense on Health Care
lovecanada replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well last time I checked my pay stub, I pay for Alberta Blue Cross, isn't that insurance? Don't I get things like private/semi-private hospital room if I have it? Does everyone have it? NO, so, is that not some form of two-tier? -
Why is our federal government engaged in the corporate world?? Muckers off! If you prop up Ford, you must then prop up GM etc. etc. etc . etc. The federal government has no right to spend our tax money proping up firms that should live or die on their own. I have a favorite charity that has had to lay off people just before Christmas because there is no government funding for guide dogs. Guide dogs make lives easier for people who can not see. Maybe the dog should explain it to you all. Get real you NDP, Liberal supporters...you talk the talk, about helping the poor but when it comes down to REALLY helping the disadvantaged you fall way short of the mark.

Poor people buy inexpensive clothes and buy less frequently than middle class or the rich. They would save little on the GST reduction but the rich would save a lot more. An increase in the person exemption for income tax could give the working poor a lot more in terms of dollars in their pocket. Get your facts right: When I voted Liberal in 1993 I knew they would not get rid of the GST - if they had actually said they would get rid of in the red book I would have never voted for them. Same goes for the CPC - I was going to vote for them but this show of economic irresponsibility makes that much less likely. At this point in time is the only thing they have going for them is they are slightly less irresponsible than the Liberals with their billion dollar handouts in the last few weeks. This was a big disappointment - I was expecting much better from the CPC. Because the CPC will be desperate to find the cash to pay for the second percentage cut - reducing the credit will be a silent way to reduce the impact of the tax cut on gov't revenues. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Let's see the GST reduction amounts to 4.5B but the Liberal promised cuts in income tax alone amount to 30B? What are they going to cut to make up for these lost revenues? Why does noone mention that the rich/middle class are paying way more GST than the poor AND they also pay a luxury tax on some goods AND they also pay more in income taxes. Do they not deserve a break too? They are the ones that are filling the government coffers and keeping our economy vibrant with their buying. What happens when they stop buying let's say GM products?? Layoffs maybe?
-
People who don't pay income tax get the GST tax credit. This credit will go down if the GST is cut as a result poor people will likely end up losing if the GST is reduced. If we must have taxes then consumption should be taxed - not income. Since rich people consume more taxable items so they pay more GST. Poor people spend most of their money on no taxable items like rent and food and do not pay that much GST. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> [/quote The credit might or might not go down, but even if it does, a reduction in the GST still helps the poorest people..RIGHT AT THE TILL. They will not have to wait to get that cheque. And seeing as I don't see many naked people on the street, poor or not you still have to buy clothes, maybe some toys, a TV, radio? And was this your position when the Liberals wanted to get rid of the GST?
-
<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well an income tax cut for those who don't pay income tax..if they are the poorest 20% will not help them at all. Even a kid can understand why a reduction in the GST is going to save them money when they go to spend their allowance on a toy!

Liberal family values for our children
lovecanada replied to Gord S.'s topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Welcome Neighbour!! Yes, I agree, if we want the vote of parents, these issues are very important to them. How do I explain to my kids that drugs are bad, but wait...marijana is okay...cause the Liberals think so? Sex is okay at 14 with someone much older but you can't drive my car. No way, your not old enough for that kind of responsibility until your 16. Want to take a bat to some poor defenceless teen...it's okay until your 18, you poor thing you didn't know any better your only 17! This country seriously needs to wake up! -
Liberal family values for our children
lovecanada replied to Gord S.'s topic in Federal Politics in Canada
“Liberal values” · Liberal values include the Age of Consent that endorses 14 year olds (junior high school children) having sex with 50 year olds. The Liberals made a coalition with the NDP and Bloc to oppose every effort to date by the Conservative Party of Canada to raise the Age of Consent from 14 years to at least 16 years. The Liberals are leaving children unprotected by law from sexual predation by adults. · Liberal values mean women have the right to become a prostitute. To stand on any street corner in front of children, while cars circle and John’s harass innocent young girls waiting for the bus. The Liberal Party of Canada’s last policy convention adopted a resolution calling for the decriminalization of prostitution. Is this the career option you want for your children and grandchildren? · Liberal values support the Young Offenders Act that allows convicted 17-year-old rapists and gang members to walk the streets anonymously. Liberals opposed Conservative efforts to amend the Young Offenders Act, which provides 17 year-old repeat violent offenders absolute anonymity on our nation’s streets. · Liberal values allow women to drink and take drugs while pregnant. Thousands of children are born with physical and mental defects. [Of individuals with FAE between the ages of 12 and 51, · 95% will have mental health problems; · 68% will experience trouble with the law; · 55% will be confined in prison, drug or alcohol treatment centre or mental institution; · 52% will exhibit inappropriate sexual behaviour http://www.fasworld.com/facts.ihtml ] Conservative values are my values! . <{POST_SNAPBACK}> As a middle aged mom, the age of consent issue really gets my back up! And the 17 year old young offender...we have one here who beat a boy to death with his friends but because he turned 18 the day AFTER he did it, he is protected under the young offenders act! That is just BS! It makes no sense 14 is old enough to have sex but 17 is still too young to face trial as an adult? If a 14 year old is old enough to make RESPONSIBLE decisions about sex, why is the 17 year old not RESPONSIBLE for their actions? -
Was the Liberal Party a Criminal Organization?
lovecanada replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Even if the last group were corrupt, which was later proven to be untrue, we still voted them out on even a hint that it was true BUT you Liberals hid your faces like criminals and say "I'm going to vote Liberal". Well keep voting for criminals. If you hate Canada, vote Liberal!!! -
"pervert" alert - face to face danger
lovecanada replied to RB's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I look at my little 12 year old and try to tell him that he can discuss sex issues with me but he still blushes when I name a certain girl he likes... he is so innocent it breaks my heart. How can we say he's ready to understand CONSENTUAL sex at 14? He still won't be shaving? Who will stand up for our young people? -

I agree Newbie, but is it too much to ask for the government to support us parents? Give us the choice of who looks after our pre-school children? It really ticked me off when filing my income taxes that we could not claim all our child care expenses because only the lowest income person could claim them. These were legitimate expenses...actual money paid out to a care provider.. that could not be totally claimed. -

But it is logical to not support a bill that would help parents? -

Oh and who is going to turn in all these kissing kids?? Their parents? Are the police going looking for young kissing offenders? Do the police not have any common sense and ability to judge a true offense when it occurs? Are our judges so misguided that they are going to put a 14 year old in jail for kissing? It's not a logical argument. -

great post Argus...sorry don't know how to use quotes yet. I love it when someone has the facts. And why would raising the age from 14 to 16 make necking or "puppy love" illegal? It wasn't illegal at 14 why would it be at 16? False premises being used by opponents to the bill to justify their lack of support to the youth of Canada I think. -

I agree, parents have to be the ones responsible for their children. But, what about the 14 year old child who has a 30 year old friend that they CONSENT to have sex with?? The parents, by LAW, can do nothing about it. So, your 14 year old meets some sexual preditor they met on the internet, and because of the law in Canada, parents and police are helpless! It just doesn't make sense. -

Thank you tml12.. I found it. And as for it being illegal for 14 year olds to neck, it should be if it's with an adult! When young girls today think that a BJ is not sex, then maybe the laws need to be changed to protect them. Can you honestly tell me that a 14 year old is mature enough to make good choices about sex but are not mature enough to drive or vote?? -

As I have a 12 year old who still thinks girls are "silly", but spends a lot of time online, I have alerted him to the dangers of chatting with strangers, but I can't be watching him all the time. He actually messages me when he goes online so I can monitor his chat. How much longer that will lasts who knows. Argus - can you tell me where I can get any information on who voted for or against the bill to increase the age of consent from 14 to 16?? I really want to email those who didn't support it and protest. I was also called a liar in another forum for saying that the NDP did not support it and I would like to prove that I am right .
