Khadr should make us ashamed to be Canadian
Leafless replied to Leafless's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Leafless sounds more like a Christian Heritage Party kinda guy to me. I really don't know what the big deal is relating to the word 'decent or decency'. 'Decency' from the concise Oxford Dictionary (hard cover): 1.- Correct and tasteful standards of behavior as generally accepted. 2.- Conformity with current standards of behavior or propriety. 3.- Avoidance of obscenity. This does not sound religious to me and I suspect the majority of Canadians would support a 'decent' Canadian society. But if the Liberals and Conservatives are unable to deliver the ingredients necessary to maintain a 'decent society', then maybe the 'Christian Heritage Party' is a political party worth supporting. -

Of course every country has undesirables, but unlike Canada don't go out of their way to import them 'en masse'. I thought that immigration asked all the consulates to take down those signs " Undesireables register here" Damn them, they should have. Dont be silly. -

CFP is an online newspaper and I think is a welcomed additon and an badly needed alternative, to the Toronto Star, Toronto Sun, National Post, Globe and Mail, Ottawa Citizen and others. BTW- What you read in the CFP is a genuine 'article' and not a blog. What you do here, is basically blog and not write articles, which I know you will find hard to believe. Canada currently is so politically diverse that it will be years before a conscientious PM will be able to do anything for Canada a whole. Of course every country has undesirables, but unlike Canada don't go out of their way to import them 'en masse'. We bring them in by the boat load, along with all their political luggage and government seems to enjoy the international attention, as if we are in competition with other civilized countries in the world, to see 'what country will go down first' as a result. That's right. Give the guy the Guyser socialist mental nutcase number, the same number the Liberals have been using for years on Canadians, to tag anyone who dares to think different from our socialist pinko queens. -

And I am sick and tired of being forced to conform to incorrect socialist policies that have wrecked this country. -
In certain respects Canada been dragged down to the level of a third world country? Who do we blame for this condition? The federal government and the 'Charter of Rights and Freedoms? The federal government and Canada's immigration policy? Or is the federal governments 'Official Multicultural Policy"? Sounds like whatever it is, is the fault of the federal government or we would not have embarrassing situations as with the Khadr family. "Decent Canadians should be prepared to be called names by the political correctoids...and in turn tell them to shove it up their rectoid. Decent Canadian politicians should begin drafting laws to remove the right of Canada to foreign fanatics and criminals. Lets' start by booting out those who spit on the oath of allegiance they took when they became citizens of this country." I agree with these statements 100%. But what happens if the federal government chooses to ignore common sense and continue on with destructive policies? Just who do we vote for? What can we do? http://www.canadafreepress.com/2007/aldridge060507.htm

So if one is unable to afford a health care plan in the U.S., what does this really mean? They are going to allow you to die in the streets? I don't think so. You should inform yourselves how their health system operates.

Dion fourth most popular leader in Quebec.
Leafless replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
What makes you think it is popular in the 'National Capital Region' federal terminology for Ottawa/Gatineau. I have never heard squeals of joy emitting from Ottawa, Ontario residents over federal 'official bilingualism', maybe in Gatineau, Quebec but certainly not from the large English speaking majority in Ottawa. But what Dion said : "As Prime Minister of Canada , linguistic duality will be promoted as an opportunity rather than a burden and an obstacle." Well, this is how it was promoted all along as a corrupt opportunity for Quebec Francophones and a burden and a obstacle for English speaking Canadians. When Mr. Dion speaks he almost sounds as if English/French was a 50-50 proposition, when in reality it is approx. English 76% and French 24%. There is no way you can turn that ratio into an opportunity for the English majority but only the French minority. Regardless we all know bilingualism has succeeded only where it is forced and that is mainly federal employment. Other than that bilingualism in Canada as failed miserably and is nothing more than another federal welfare plan for Quebec. -
To put it bluntly, any unmarried individual who thinks of joining Canada's military, must marry in order to qualify and receive the $250k death benefit. If one should feel uncomfortable with this don't join and don't vote in federal elections. It could be considered a federal qualification similar to 'official bilingualism', where in order to get a certain 60-70k federal position, you more than likely must be able to pass a federal language test even if the majority commercial language of Canada is English. If one should feel uncomfortable with this in order to gain federal employment, don't apply and don't vote in federal elections. The federal government obviously feels entitled to discriminate even though its own federal entity is dependent on a certain democratic process.

I agree with Renegade as there are other plans in Canada's military that are treated like a regular insurance plan and I don't think this one should be any different. "Note: These benefits are payable to the surviving spouse and dependants, but where there is no spouse, they will be paid to the deceased's estate." http://www.mdn.ca/hr/cfpn/engraph/2_02/2_0...youregone_e.asp This death benefit paid only to married military personnel discriminates.

Charges dropped against Khadr in Guantanamo
Leafless replied to kuzadd's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Procedural flaw doesn't exactly mean innocence. Innocent is meaningless in a court anyways. The verdict is always either 'guilty' or 'not guilty'. With charges being dismissed means a verdict of 'not guilty'. It does not mean that the person is innocent and only means the government did not prove its case. -

I don't think Omar Khadr will be going anywhere soon. "The ruling didn't mean freedom for Canadian detainee Omar Khadr, who was 15 when he was captured after a deadly firefight in Afghanistan and who is now 20. He and the 380 other men will remain jailed at Guantanamo on suspicion of having links to al-Qaeda and the Taliban. " http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/world/2...amo-trials.html -
Why is that? In Ottawa we have a public 'no smoking by-law' that is vigorously enforced, forcing many small businesses to close their doors after being fined repeatedly, for turning a blind eye or still providing ash trays for smokers. Why shouldn't 'discrimination laws' force public establishments who discriminate to honour the rules of the land and continually fine them with larger fines until they are forced to close their doors? If this does not happen, then we do have a double standard and the 'law is an ass'.

More Liberal Waste on the way!
Leafless replied to Fat Freddie's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
How do you expect your post to be taken seriously when you say ridiculous things like that? You do raise good points about the need to speak other international languages, but you are seriously off if you think Quebecois French is going anytime soon. If it was not for the federal government and a very large amount of money, French would have been dead years ago. Currently French is in a suspended state of animation, real but not real, made possible by the forced contributions of the tax payers of Canada. Just look at the the numbers relating to what French Quebec is up against concerning immediate surrounding countries that affect their spoken language. English in U.S. and Canada= Approx., 327-million. French in Quebec= Approx., 6-million. -

I agree. That'd be the final nail on the coffin for Harper. The way the countries headed down the tube relating to disheartening events and criminal acts connected with lack of morals, values and basic common sense, it could be the final nail in the coffin for secularist. Harper acknowledges God whenever certain occasions arise. -

Ah but they are not right next door! LOL The religious right has been running your country since Regan. Didn't you know that? Now that Falwell is gone they have lost their voice so you guys just might get your country back if you work really hard on ousting the religies. A theocracy means 'God's Government'. The U.S. has made the world a safer place to live in and is not a full blown theocracy. I mean when is the last time you heard of anyone being beheaded in the U.S. for making fun of the president. And besides, how as this affected U.S. democracy? The U.S. is more democratic than Canada and maybe Canada can learn from this also. And that is inner strength is the basis of man's salvation and is formed by the belief of a divine power and in the case of the U.S. and majority in Canada is Christianity. The Canadian government should be acknowledging and promoting majority Christianity beliefs in Canada rather than allow people to dabble with useless and a lot of times damaging secularism leading people to make unwise and damaging decisions relating to ones personal life. -

With taxpayers on the hook for one wad of cash. "We know that public funding of the schools of a select religious persuasion is a human rights violation, but let's look at the monetary cost of such a practice. The Ontario government admits that, to maintain the Roman Catholic separate school system for one year costs taxpayers $200 million. Other bodies would claim a higher figure. Since there are approximately 200 school days per year, the cost amounts to $100 million for each school day. How else could we spend this money to greater advantage?" http://www.renc.igs.net/~publiced/latest.html Strange though, while Ontario funds all these French separate school boards based on religion, Quebec school funding is based on language and no longer religion. -

Did I ever say I hate Quebec? I think I have made it apparent in this thread and others that I think Quebec is undeserving of federal special treatment and that is all there is to it. Quebec has special constitutional powers and if they refuse to help themselves for fear of being assimilated by the English, then that is their problem and should not be the problem of Canadians to pad Quebec's ideologies and Quebecers lifestyles for eternity because of this. This is not the first time you laid on me the hate or bigot label without justification and have failed to understand initially my point of view. You have made it apparent in other threads, you are a minority of some sort and have a strong dislike of the White majority, Christian population of Canada or simply a cheesed off socialist not getting his way. -

Leafless replied to Leafless's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Perhaps. I'd like to rephrase it as Ontario and Quebec's battle over the power of the rest of Canada. You see, your getting pissed at 6,000 jobs moving 30 minutes away. I'm a 5 hour flight and a 30 hour drive from power. Multiply your disatisfaction with the situation by that kind of ratio and apply it to the entire government and you'll get my impression. You sound ridiculous when you think of it, all mad that Ottawa/Ontario is losing to Quebec, when Alberta (for example) never had anything to begin with in terms of Federal moola. This is a situation about Quebec stealing power, with the help of corrupt French PM's in a corrupt fashion, is the heart of the matter. Ottawa the Capital of Canada is the designated home of the federal government and is a government town and does benefit from being designated the Capital of Canada. And is anything wrong with that? Any one in Canada if they think it is worth the effort can apply and move to Ottawa for federal government employment. Currently especially relating to bilingual federal jobs the fed's discriminate by not allowing every Canadian to apply unless they are living in the Ottawa region. I think if Canada has to export federal departments to other provinces (especially Quebec who has never signed our constitution and harbours separatist and sovereign ideologies with many in Quebec who think it is a country) as a method of creating employment, then Canada is in extremely bad shape economically, lacks strong leadership, and does not deserve to be a country. -
I can't understand why it is NOT official policy that all military personnel be single rather than married. We want fighters, not emotionally charged family men burdened with wives and children in a dangerous occupation.
-
Perhaps he doesn't want to face yet another Liberal premier in Prince Edward Island. There are getting to be fewer conservative premiers and most seem to be no friend of Harper. Scary, scary to see so many provinces dependent on federal handouts. Man, I wouldn't want to face this bunch of losers either!

Leafless replied to Leafless's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Cheaper cost has nothing to do with it. It is all about Quebec's lust for power: "With these four properties, "by 2010, 2011, we'll have reached a ratio of 75 per cent/25 per cent," said Mr. Fortier, referring to the percentage of office space the government uses on either side of the Ottawa River." Inferring bigotry is a cheap way to try to earn points to support your assertions. Attack the issue not the poster. Then why does the federal government not cater to the other provinces in the same way it caters to Quebec including special powers other provinces are not entitled to such as immigration? So I will ask you again. What OTHER official document makes Quebec so deserving over the needs or similar requirements of other provinces, who would certaintly all enjoy the same amount of federal attention as Quebec? Our country is a federation and does not consist of only the province of Quebec. It is not a couple buildings in Gatineau. It part of whole series of moves, involving federal government moving departments into Quebec to satisfy Quebec's lust for power. " "With these four properties, "by 2010, 2011, we'll have reached a ratio of 75 per cent/25 per cent," said Mr. Fortier, referring to the percentage of office space the government uses on either side of the Ottawa River." Quebec is demanding 25% of federal real estate. You have that backwards. It is Quebec properties that have benefited in value. Look at commercial and residential real estate values over the previous 10 years and you will see 40k townhouse, for instance, is now in the vicinity of 140k. Federal influence has helped Gatineau tremendously, while forcing Ottawa to look for new sources employment sources to fill the federal jobs lost to Gatineau, Quebec. In fact to-day, with the higher higher income taxes in Quebec, you actually get better value in Ottawa relating to mortgages and home ownership. Severances apply to federal Ottawa, workers that refuse to work in Quebec also. Quebec is counting on federal jobs, not only providing real estate space. Transferring documents is all done electronically and just as fast as phone call and is not an issue. -

That is nothing more than federal propaganda and really has no official meaning but is just another Quebec demand to squeeze itself into the federal workings or another 'cheap power grab' that comes after the fed's relocating so many government departments into that province to satisfy Quebec's insatiable lust for power. How that name "National Capital Region" sometimes gets to be identified and printed on non-federal commercial maps is a real mystery, since it is only a federal designation arrived at by federal demographics and has nothing to do with provincial identification relating to cities and provinces in Canada. The fact is Posit, Ottawa, is the Capital city of Canada and no other city in Canada has that honour.
