What is equality? Everyone drives the same car, wears the same clothes and shoes, has the same watch? They have the same car? Is equality providing people with an opportunity to advance if they re competent or is equality giving resources to those unwilling to work for said resources?

Nice tagline, how do you intent to do that though? Define what you mean by this as it is extremely vague...

Quebec is irrelevant not because it did not vote for the CPC, Quebec is irrelevant because the CPC proved that it is possible to form a government without Quebec, and much easier. Yes, but that is an irrelevant fact because the Conservatives formed a majority government with very few seats from Quebec, up to this point in time Canada has had 9 provinces and Quebec, with Quebec trying to force more concessions from the government in order to gain independence but at the same time benefit from being part of Canada. I might be mistaken but to me it seems that Quebec wants to be equal to the federal government rather than being equal to the provincial governments, that is why they are irrelevant.
-
If Quebec stops demanding special treatment and stops polarizing the country they become relevant, a party that has its support base in Quebec COULD become a majority if it does not have to do acrobatics to please Quebec while not pissing off TROC. The NDP could become the next government, but their problem lies in keeping Quebec happy while at the same time gathering support elsewhere, it could take just one issue to change the whole landscape and force a decision on them, be Quebec's party, be TROC's party or try for the middle ground and lose both. The conservatives don't have that problem, worry about TROC and if they are lucky Quebec will provide them with more support by making demands that unite TROC.
-
My question is how far would you want to go with this, just on this issue or a general reform of the UN in order to make it relevant? What is the depth of the reform?
-
Quebec lost relevance because now we know that a majority is possible without Quebec. The major problem that the NDP face is pleasing Quebec since its where a good chunk of their support comes from while not alienating TROC, on any major issue the NDP has to walk a very fine line on the one hand they need to keep Quebec happy, but at the same time, a lot of things that will make Quebec happy might piss off their support elsewhere. The Conservatives don't need to win any votes they just have to wait for the NDP to be put in an impossible position where they will alienate either Quebec and gain some support elsewhere or alienate the Rest of Canada and lose all possibility to form a government.

What I don't appreciate is little pricks like you who think they know everything while in reality they know nothing... You are ignorant and arrogant, the worst combination.

Nothing we can do, you want to help them we have to provide security before we can provide any form of aid.

Yeah that MUST be it....

My question would be how many of those legitimate refugees actualy come to Canada? I have nothing against helping refugees, the problem is when those that come to Canada by and large are not the once that need the most help. I dont think there is a shortage of sympathy in our country or in the world in general, the problem is that most people do not turn smpathy in to action. The west in general is risk averse, for example a PK mission in Rwanda, the Hutu's knew that killing 10 Belgians would almsot certainly guarantee the withdrawal of the Belgian troops, the Belgians themselvs might have had sympathy but they like every other western nation determined that the lives of a few dozen of their soldiers was not a price they were willing to pay even if it meant saving the lives of over 800,000 thousand innocent men, women and children. People had sympathy but it didnt make a bit of difference. If we can get sympathy in to our international relations then we can make a change until then sympathy plays no part.

I think this is a better outcome, now those kids would know that their actions have consequences. Hopefully it would be a stiff sentence.

I was referring more to developed nations that face natural disasters nations like the US(Katrina) and the Earthquake in Japan, those nations are able to provide for themselves but after the emergency the affected area is in need of assistance and the federal government will not choke off food supply to the are in need in order to control the population. We should be very selective when taking refugees from Somalia or nations like that, because it is likely that they aren't really the poor impoverished refugees they are made out to be... plus if they are allowed to stay in Canada it should be under strict conditions where they are in effect forced to become productive members of society. Can you site specific points? I would rather not engage in a vague discussion about those issues but more specific discussion. I have this belief that doctors without borders and all other medical organizations should cooperate if not merge in order to use their resources more efficiently. I have nothing but the utmost respect for anyone who puts themselves in danger while working for little in the way of financial compensation in order to help people, they are truly hero's in my eyes but I still think that there is significant waste and that should be a priority to remove. Amnesty International, well I have mixed feelings for them, on one level they are fighting for human rights on another level they seem to overdo. The will to do something is the pre-requisite to action, and generally the pre-requisite to having the will to act is the self interest. If nations cannot find something in their national interest there is no action e.g.. Rwanda, Sudan, Somalia...

I want to argue that we let people take advantage of our system.I think we should take refugees, only though take the refugees who are legitimate.
-
I did not say drain BY Refugees, I stated many of the "refugees" drain the system as in they are one of those multiple groups that drain the system rather then the group that does so by itself.

Yes every country is different, but in many cases the general assessment applies to most countries in need barring those due to natural disasters. Theoretically thats a noble sentiment but in reality not so much, what is the point in investing resources in educating, feeding and providing medical attention to children when we don't provide safety to them? We spend all those resources and then see those children forced in to being sex slaves for this militia or that militia and the little boys being forced to fight as child soldiers. When people want to help as much as it seems you want to and thats an honourable thing, they sometimes do so blindly, "helping" people in need far away but not really helping the intended people. There are some NGO that are respectable and do good work, but then there are NGO's that counteract any limited success that already ineffective Peacekeeping missions. NGO's should work within an international framework where they work to support the general goal of helping people rather then "helping" people by being counter productive and downright destructive to the overall goal. Sympathy solves nothing, actions speak louder then words, being sympathetic while doing nothing well nothing happens.

If we cannot communicate properly how long do you think we will last as a civilization? Math is one of those important aspects of education that is used on a daily basis by a large portion of the population in such menial tasks as grocery shopping, paying of bills, and purchasing a coffee. Those who do not know basic math are doomed to failure. Knowing how to communicate with each other in a proper and understandable although in a basic way is imperative for the survival of any civilization, if you go to any high school or college/university and start writing essay lyk dis bekuz itz da nu way 2 type wil not get u any gud marks or even be taken serious. Any school that does not teach proper language skills be it english or french is failing its students, same goes for schools that ignore math and the sciences. Elementary and middle school should give you a basic foundation of the knowledge to be a productive member of society, high school should help you build up on what you have learned in elementary/middle school and also help children in the career choice, a school that does not teach english/french basics automatically excludes its students from some of the best and most prestigious jobs, add to that schools that don't have math or sciences and they(the students) are severely limited in their choice of employment for the future. -
What happens when local warlords block the food aid or use the food aid to hold civilians hostage? What happens when you send food aid to a country like Sudan and they don't have the infrastructure to receive all of it so it has to go through neighbours to the north or east or south... how do you ensure that the 30 billion of aid will get to the people in need rather then end up in the storage facilities of the local warlord? In the facilities of the guy who will use the food as a weapon against his enemies?

How so? If they are frauds then that in and of itself means they should be ineligible for refugee status. When people use refugee claim as an easier way to get in to Canada then something is wrong, many people from central and eastern Europe make a refugee in Canada under the guise of being oppressed and persecuted in their home countries. These people are in no way persecuted they just found an easier way to get in to Canada and one that seems like a cheaper and more affordable way. Keep refugee positions for people that really do need asylum as opposed to just giving it to people because they "might" be persecuted in their home country.

The funny thing is that Quebec holds the power while the government is tripping over itself to pander to them thats why Quebec separating is best as a threat, if Quebec bluffs about separation once again and TROC calls their bluff I don't see Quebec going through with it. As you said, they would lose all the obvious benefits that come with being part of Canada, but also many not so obvious benefits as well, if it comes to that and Canada fights for itself we can see Quebec quickly changing their mind and wanting to stay. Separation is best used as a threat to get what they want, but if it is ever called out by TROC, Quebec loses all of the perks is has that no other province get. My personal opinion is that should we see a revival of the sovereignty question TROC should have a referendum to kick out the separatists from the country let them form their own country in northern Quebec...
