Canada rescinding Digitals Services act
LinkSoul60 replied to Barquentine's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Concessions on both sides are typical of negotiations, and generally not referred to as folding. 'another all "p**ss & wind" semi-politician' - uninformed and bias comment knowing we have no idea of the discussion details or what the final deal will look like. -

What do you think the best strategy would have been, knowing the guy across the table has a better hand and knowing thousands of Canadian jobs need resolution to a trade deal to move forward? -

I think it was the wise thing to do. The petulant child across the table has a better hand and more money in his pocket. Whether he was bluffing or not Canada needs resolution to a deal quicker than the US does. Give the child a win to build him up. Dollars were minimal in the grand scheme of things, but agree this will resurface at some point. Until then, need to get this behind us for clarity in the industries that affect a lot of Canadian workers. -
Carney doesn't sell cars, auto manufacturers do and they're not evolving their vehicle offerings because Canada is mandating in 2035. All governments are regulating to achieve climate goals and address environmental concerns, along growing customer demand. You'll have choices galore in 10 years, but they'll mainly be EV. You'll come around....and maybe have one of the 'I 💚 earth' bumper stickers by then...

The Canadian Economic Winter
LinkSoul60 replied to paxamericana's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Disagree...this is about DST and tariffs which are taxes. Immigration is a process for individuals to become residents or citizens of a country. Two entirely different things. If MS lost a law suit about benefits to H1B employees that's a labor issue, not an immigration issue. Cheap labor has nothing to do with this either....this is only about taxes. Not sure what you mean by US companies leveraging Canadian healthcare, but private equity has been investing in the healthcare industry for many years and on both sides of the border owning and/or operating everything from hospitals, physician practices, medical services, to long term care facilities. Would suggest that any leveraging of the healthcare industry is more prevalent in the US with private equity owning approximately 30% of private and for profit hospitals, and running as a business which has an impact on the cost, access and quality of care. Off on a tangent.... this is about Trump and his equally inept trade negotiators trying to leverage DST in tariff/trade discussions. Immigration and healthcare are not part of those discussions...... -
Wasn't aware and won't disagree with that, but what investment is required in EV infrastructure or sales investment for a dealership? The servicing of an EV is less complicated and sales are sales. Only thing I can think of for infrastructure is diagnostic equipment being different, and obviously costly....?
