The Trump Administration is Emulating Russia.
Radiorum replied to Radiorum's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Couple of things: I would need to see the memo cited in the first article since the source is biased. Yeah, there are some extremist Catholics. But - did Biden ever come up with anything like NSPM-7 - which rewrites the Constitution and its safeguards? Also - instead of the attitude "They did it, so we can, too." how about "It stops here." -

I'm not mad. I don't get mad. It's a waste of time. But you know, you join a debate forum, and you hope for some intelligent discussion, and those guys were massive disappointments. Trump is changing the USA in unprecedented ways. yes, it can happen there. -

If you cannot see the difference between Biden and Trump, you are in the cult. -

I don't even watch TV. ever. You went off on some sort of alternative universe tangent there. Do you have any other tricks beside whataboutism? Like, a reasonable response that follows from what was posted I think CNN lives in your head way way more than mine. Giving other examples of boondogglery (not that I have ever been boondoggled) does not provide any meaningful rebuttal to what I posted. -

You mean me? I don't watch CNN. I don't even subscribe to it, can't get it on my TV. WTF? Lol! Struck a nerve with someone! So, do you have anything of intelligence to counterpoint what was posted in the OP? -
he consistently claimed he was targeting the boats because of fentanyl deaths in the US. I've already posted about this. You must have missed it. Look, in everything that Trump does, there is one question you have to ask yourself. "What's in it for him?" Because that is the totality of Trumps' motivation for doing anything. He wants a cut into Venezuela's oil. Yeah, sure, somewhere over the rainbow

They are power-mad, undisciplined, and conduct themselves with impunity. ICE are not good guys. They use deceptive tactics like impersonating officers to enter homes without warrants. They deny due process. They detain US citizens, sometimes only based on appearance (racial profiling). They use excessive force. They violate 4th Amendment rights against unreasonable search and seizure. They have caused crashes during high-speed chases. And they have conducted large-scale raids on workplaces, resulting in the detention of many in the US legally, or US citizens. Their purpose is to cause fear and to intimidate.

The very short video clip below is of Trump, responding to a female reporter who asked about the boat strikes. Trump snarls at her, "You are the most obnoxious reporter in the whole place. Let me just tell you - you are obnoxious - a terrible reporter. And it's always the same thing with you. I told you. Whatever Pete Hegseth wants to do is okay with me." A couple of things become apparent - Trump has the attitude that 'How dare you question me?" - and he sees himself as the final authority, not the law. As long as it is "okay with him" - it is okay. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DSBEKmwkZcu/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==

MAGA is goo-goo-ga-ga for spectacle

I'm reminded of Trump's comment after he and Vance were so incredibly disrespectful to Zelenskyy in the oval office, a few months back. "This will make good television," Trump said. -
Then, I'm sorry, it is no corollary to what ICE is doing now, stoking fear in entire communities. ... roaming the streets in plainclothes, masked, and sometimes armed—have stoked fear in communities nationwide. These federal agents have been seen swinging batons, smashing car windows, using explosives to blow the door off of a home with children inside, emerging from unmarked vehicles with weapons drawn, shooting into a family vehicle, and grabbing people off of the street and putting them into unmarked vehicles. https://www.americanprogress.org/article/masked-and-unidentifiable-the-risks-of-federal-law-enforcement-operating-without-identification/ Federal law must operate with identification. Since taking office, the Trump administration has undermined public safety and law enforcement accountability by supporting the dangerous practice of obscuring the identity of ICE and other federal officers. https://www.americanprogress.org/article/masked-and-unidentifiable-the-risks-of-federal-law-enforcement-operating-without-identification/

MAGA is goo-goo-ga-ga for spectacle
Radiorum posted a topic in Federal Politics in the United States
We live in an age in which spectacle replaces reality. MAGA is goo-goo-ga-ga for the shows Trump puts on. He keeps the base occupied while he goes about his dishonest, corrupted way and turns the country upside-down. That Americans are susceptible to spectacle is well established – Consider the “American saves the day” literary trope. The MAGA movement is hypnotized by spectacle more than anyone else. (Must be that lack of critical thinking skills) Get them narco-terrorists! Trump is the president of spectacle – images meant to capture attention – like blowing up of boats in the ocean and the cruelty dealt on the city streets by masked ICE – all meant to divert attention away from the decimation of programs that help American people and the Epstein files and Trump’s corruption. And Trump continues to make a spectacle of himself – posting himself as the pope, or a superhero, or a movie star. It seems like so much of the Trump administration’s spectacle is a nonstop, never-ending monologue of self-praise. In his 1967 book, The Society of Spectacle, Guy Debord makes the case that spectacle – propaganda – is one of the most important tools of the authoritarian. The book begins with this quote from the Preface to the Second Edition of The Essence of Christianity But for the present age, which prefers the sign to the thing signified, the copy to the original, representation to reality, appearance to essence, ... truth is considered profane, and only illusion is sacred. Sacredness is in fact held to be enhanced in proportion as truth decreases and illusion increases, so that the highest degree of illusion comes to be seen as the highest degree of sacredness. MAGA is held captive by the illusions Trump has created for them. -
Trump claimed he hit the boats in the ocean to interrupt fentanyl import. I posted something that said but there was no fentanyl on the boats. Then you post a White House article about designating drug cartels as terrorists. Can you not see that your article did not follow from what was said before?? See above.

I don't think anyone has ever protested deportations of illegals. But that is not all Trump is doing. Sending a hundred men to a torture-prison in El Salvador is not the same as putting them on a bus and dropping them off in their home country. Sending masked thugs into the streets to terrorize the people is something new to the US, too. I need you to understand this. Trump did not do this to save lives. He did this to distract you from his corruption. Put your focus instead on the US government - US leadership - and expect them to be lawful. Lol. I dunno, I think the fact that Trump is pardoning all these drug lords is pretty relevant.
