It only seems like that to you because you only watch mainstream media, so you think Maher is on the Left. He's actually a liberal with a few surprisingly right-wing takes on things like cancel culture, economics, and Islam. First of all, I don't think people should be arrested for thought crimes. Secondly, I don't think Maher is willingly helping fascism. I think he's like you, his politics just unintentionally normalize fascism.

They're doing that too, that doesn't mean they're not also using race to distract from capitalism failing. What you're describing is capitalism. Rich people, who make the laws, want cheap labor. That's why we haven't had immigration reform. It's why the immigration rates have been steadily rising regardless of who the president is. Republicans and Democrats are pretty much the same on immigration. They do, they just use coded language. The obviously can't say "black people are destroying white neighborhoods," so instead they say things like "urban thugs are destroying the suburbs." It's the Richard Nixon playbook. -

Thank you for proving my point. While I disagree with those actions, that's not reactionary or authoritarian. Authoritarianism is something the government does and only the Right is trying to use government power to end freedom of speech.

Bill Maher is funny sometimes, but I think he's helped normalize and justify fascism by lying about "left-wing extremism." Maher himself has said that the reason people are willing to support a buffoon like Trump is because they're trying to send a message that they're sick of wokeness and cancel culture. But the reason people are afraid of wokeness and cancel culture, two terms that mean nothing, is because of people like Maher. Maher repeats right-wing talking points about these things all the time. Basically, he's selling people the drugs, then complaining about people doing stupid things because they're hooked on drugs Remember how I said enlightened centrism helps to normalize fascism? Maher does that through his being a liberal, but being reactionary when it comes to social issues. He "both sides" the two parties.

When Trump tried to get Jimmy Kimmel fired for making fun of him, Kimmel said: Basically what happened is, President Karen asked to speak to my manager. The archetypical Karen is a middle-aged white woman, but the term can be applied to anyone who acts that way. Plenty of people were calling Trump a Karen, saying he wanted to speak to America's manager, when he tried overturning the election.

Reactionary politics is always bad, regardless of how it's dressed up. Bill Maher is pretty reactionary, though he doesn't dress his stupid ideas up in nationalism. And to his credit, he's not authoritarian. So while he's reactionary, he's not a fascist. Have I ever refused to define woman? Have you gotten to the point where you're just lying now?

Yes, it used to mean an awareness of social injustice. Under that definition, being woke is a good thing. But when fascists use "woke" it's just a propaganda catch-all. It means nothing, it's like calling something "degenerate." I had no idea liberal white women are running all of right-wing media and the GOP. ?

That's the inevitable conclusion of capitalism. When we allow a small minority to have an overwhelming amount of power, they use that power to grant themselves more power. Some capitalists will say that the real problem is "crony capitalism," but capitalism literally always becomes crony capitalism. Nobody makes it on their own. We're all born into a set of circumstances, we all live in a society, we all get help. Capitalism is better than feudalism, but it's still a system that rigs the game based on birth. If you're born into wealth, you're going to have infinitely more help than someone born into poverty. And while people born into poverty do get some level of help, they also get hinderances that rich people don't get. The private prison industry, which is like peak capitalism, keeps people poor.

Sure I can. A fascist is someone who uses nationalism and reactionary politics to justify authoritarianism. When DeSantis bans books in order to oppress queer people, he's (at the very least) doing fascism.

It's not, but like I said, both parties will use race and racism as a distraction from the failures of capitalism. And that leads to racial tensions. So for example, Democrats will say that the racial wealth gap is because of white supremacy. Republicans will say black people are lazy and self-entitled. The truth is, at one point we had white supremacy, but because capitalism rigs the system against the poor, there is very little social mobility. So the families that were poor a hundred years ago, overwhelming black because of historic racism, are still poor today. This is why you can predict a person's success by their zip code, regardless of race.

WTF? No. Maybe some do, there are people who are racist against white people, but part of being a leftist is not believing in biological essentialism. We believe that people are a result of material conditions. The real cause of America's racial problem is capitalism. Politicians in both parties just use racism to distract from the failures of capitalism. And of course, that just leads to actual racial tensions.

Some of these people aren't liars in that they never stopped to examine their own beliefs long enough to decide if they're true or false. If we were to give Perspektiv a magical truth serum and asked if he really believed this shit, he'd probably just say he doesn't know. Whether something is true or false just doesn't matter to most conservatives. However, when it comes to grifters in right-wing media, they are absolutely lying. We now know that the people promoting the Big Lie on Fox all knew it was nonsense. It just came out that Marjorie Greene's boyfriend used to cross-dress on TV. Does that make him a GROOMER? Nah, because the Republicans are lying when they pretend to hate queer people.

It depends on the context. If the Right can use gay rights to attack trans people, they will. They'll say that the WOKE are forcing people to become trans when they're really just gay, which is homophobic. But then they'll also say that the movie "Strange World" is WOKE because there's a gay character. It's inconsistent, but that's the point. Fascists are consistently against minorities, but they don't really believe their own justifications for why minorities are bad. So the justifications can keep changing and it's fine to them.

Deflection. The argument being made here is true. The modern right-wing establishment is all about personality, spectacle, and performative cruelty. DeSantis and Pence both have the personality of a zombie, so they'd never be able to beat Trump in an age where the Right is a cult of personality.

Sure, plenty of definitions aren't totally precise. But fascists can't define wokeness at all outside of it just being a catch-all for anything not conservative. Even Fox News is called "woke" for not being conservative enough. When it comes to terms like "karan," we might disagree over what the most perfect definition is, but we can all define the term and our definitions are pretty similar.

I have said that Trump uses nazi propaganda, but I don't think he's actually a nazi. I don't think he even knows where his propaganda comes from. He probably just repeats what he hears on TV. Well most of the Right uses nazi talking-points from cultural bolshevism, but they don't actually believe in the global Jewish conspiracy. Conservatives tend to believe in the "cultural marxism" version where degeneracy is being promoted by marxists, but the marxists are people of many different races and ethnicities. They don't see it as being a plot by the Jews for global dominance. These people are definitely reactionary and authoritarian, but I wouldn't say they're nazis unless they also believe in the part about the internationalist Jews. So on the one hand, you acknowledge that I've said conservatives using nazi talking-points doesn't necessarily make them nazis, but on the other hand, you're claiming I say anyone I disagree with is a nazi. ?
