The Canadian government spent the money for the consul general.... The Canada House residence in London is equal, if not more than that. And the MacDonald Building residence in London is worth 5 times a s much. Just saying, diplomatic buildings in national capitals or major cities of other countries are not cheap. I believe we have used sending troops as part of our NATO commitment forever. We do the same thing for our UN commitment. Unfortunately you are being emotional. Troops dying is a given, not a dollar amount. Geographic location is meaningless as well. We do not have to belong topNATO if we do not want be but, we wanted membership. Trump is a red herring, nothing to do with us. Bottom line, what we NATO countries are committed to spend on their Military is what is mandated and we have never (or only once) met that mandate.

I think this is a" pure political" announcement primarily to pappease the NATO members that Canada is willing to increase to 2% of GDP on defence. I personally do not think it will happen at all. All political parties in power make announcements like this when close to election time. The Liberals have little chance of getting elected so this will fall away. I also am quite sure PP will just cancel if it ever came to fruition before the election. Lastly we cannot man our present fleets, surface and subsurface, so they would just sit dockside like our fleets are now LOL
