I think you are just a bitter person and need to blame government tor everything you don't like. Bottom line is no one can predict the future and as far as not enough homes, as well, no one is guaranteed or entitled to a house. Right now, it is a buyers. market, meaning there are more homes for sale out there than buyers. There will be homes built, either by the government, hence my statement about becoming a landlord or by private industry if there is profit in it. Anything else is wishful thinking.

All to help you LOL Between 2010 and 2022: the population of Canada grew from approximately 33.9 million to 39.3 million (an increase of 15.9%)Footnote 5; and the number of federal public servants increased from 282,980 to 335,957 (an increase of 18.7%)" https://www.canada.ca/en/treasury-board-secretariat/services/innovation/human-resources-statistics/demographic-snapshot-federal-public-service-2022.h -
Now you can go to your corner store. I also think some LCBO's will stay open. I think a bunch/most will close though. Are you aawre that the manager of your favourite LCBO decides what is in stock? They have to sell and they know what sells in their store and keeps that in stock. I know one of the stores in my ara sells certain brands and the other does not carry them. That will be the same for the corner stores, they stock what sells so, if you are good customer, they will bring in what you want. The LCBO workers union has not done them any favours. Giving the government more reason to shuffle things around and shut things down.s https://toronto.citynews.ca/2024/07/16/lcbo-ad-strike-opseu-union-doug-ford/

There is no irony at all. Ford promised booze in grocery and convenience stores from the beginning. The LCBO is and has been a "monopoly" since day one. The LCBO "business model" is the same now as it is in the beginning. They are the sole wholesale seller of alcohol. The LCBO is just probably going to get out of the retail business. On the news yesterday they said they issued over 1800 retail licences to convenience stores a The SAQ is the same as LCBO. It is the sole seller of alcohol to retailers. And is doing quite well. You can get beer and alcohol in stores in Quebec. SAQ sptres are not the on;y retailer. LCBO is not angry...the union is. They see the end of the need for LCBO stores. There will still be employees but in the import department, the buying department, the warehouse and distribution. Just no stores. I love te idea of going to the corner store to get my booze.

Not sure what you are trying to imply? Considering the land was ceded to the indigenous, they can do and names as the see fit or wish. Just as you can name your house whatever you wish on your property. I am far from pro indigenous but, if we give, it is theirs. My true wish is that we stop giving but when we do we stop paying anyone and anything.. Oh and blackturd is wrong, it is not politicians that "want to rename" It is the owners of the land and property, the indigenous. Politicians have nothing to do with naming. He likes to blame Trudeau but Harper gave more back to the indians that Trudeau has. The rest has been provincial governments of all parties.

So, the LCBO workers strike have enables Ontario to hasten the sale of booze in grocery and convenience stores. If there was ever a union screwing it's workers, OPSEU is doing it to it's workers. Thing is, the union is saying the government is going to lose money when in fact, if they shut down the stores and lay off workers, they save a lot more money that anticipated. Ontario still controls all import and sals of all alcohol so they make money regardless of who or where it is sold. They just do not have to pay rent, lease, facility upkeep and wages and benefits. Yup, another union debacle LOL "The Ontario government says ready-to-drink beverages, such as coolers and seltzers, and large packs of beer will be coming to grocery stores across the province ahead of schedule. Ontarians will be able to get these types of alcohol starting on Thursday, July 18." https://globalnews.ca/news/10624118/ontario-alcohol-grocery-stores/

Did this just come to your attention?? Just north of Gatineau in Quebec was/is Maniwaki. The town is also Kitgan Zibi. There are many areas in many regions that have been ceded back to the indigenous (by the feds or provinces) and the towns and villages on this land have or can change names as it is their territory. We change road names all the time. We change school names all the time.. We change building names all the time. There are name changes to towns, villages, cities and even countries all over the world. So, are you saying that, in Canada, once named, it has to remain that in perpetuity?

What has failed?? Not calling you a racist but, .... elections are people voting for a person to represent you. Are all people running for office white anglo saxon protestants?? No, and they do not have to be. They are supposed to be representative of their constituents. If this country is considered to be a melting pot and welcoming all, then it has to be that way. Just who is "brainwashing white people to hate everything we stand for"? And what do we stand for that has lost it's lustre? -
Where and when did I say it was the only option?? Why binary?? (you seem to like that word LOL). Do you have alternative that does not involve the government (you and me taxpayer) not funding major home construction? Seems that private industry is hamstrung with red tape and rising cost that they are not making enough profit to keep building. How do you come to the conclusion "It was a failure of projecting and planning properly, " that we are in a housing crisis? There was always projections for housing needs. The problem was and is, who is going to build them? Your issue seems to be "all the money that people have been making on housing over the last 14 years. " but in fact real estate has been the way to make money for hundreds of years. Nothing new at all. I lived through 17% mortgage years... houses were still being built and people were still buying. As it is now. Builders will only build if there is money to be made. If government makes announcement to generate construction of housing, it will have to fund or build itself. Either way, you and I will be paying for it.

I live in Ottawa. The downtown core is abandoned because the government is allowing the public service to do nothing at home (as opposed to doing little, but supervised) in the office. The government owns a lot of buildings downtown and it planing on turning many of the office buildings int apartments. The cost of renovations seems to be astronomical and then of course, the upkeep of these 12 to 14 story buildings would be outrages. All to help the housing crisis. The problem is that downtown , any city, has no infrastructure to support folk, let alone families. No grocery, no stores, no parks, no schools etc. There are hotels that used to be used by bruises when they needed to do workk with the government but if there is no government downtown, they will go out of business too (as some already are) and they are essier and more apt to become apartments. I do not agree that the government, at any level become landlords and all the associated costs and issues that come with that. It is interesting that while there is so much banter about cost of housing, there is still a shortage of homes and rentals even at the prices they are today. Someone is buying and someone is renting...driving up prices. The market seems to be deciding.

To be fairs, 24 Sussex has been the subject of repair, renovation, closure and many other issues. Even Mulroney stopped using it for official functions. Chretiens wife was constantly getting things fixed. Harper complained and also never had official functions there and now, the entire building is basically condemned. The heating , cooling , wiring and roofing are all unusable. Not even speaking to the foundation issies. I live in Ottawa and not a month goes by without 24 Sussex and it's problems doesn't hit the news. So, it was never "good enough for me" but more they just used parts of it. Trudeau was the first to say I ain't moving my wife and 3 kids into that shithole. Sorry for the off topic excursion. As I said earlier, $9 million in downtown NYC for an executive place to be used for official Canadian functions is a very good price.

Once again, the offer is there. A person of honour would accept but hey...we know you have no honour. Oh and it is ur mommy's basement you spend your time in and maybe even goddess is in the basement room next to you. One thing is that goddess can put forth a reasonable an forthright argument unlike you... that has nothing useful. You have the offer.....lets see if you are man enough to accept. -
I agree but I have to say it is the "imbeciles" in charge as in the past 3 PMs. They all knew the disaster 24 Sussex was and only Trudeau would not move his family into it. The F'n NCC is a monumental waste of effort and should be completely disbanded or should actually made something of use and turn part of Ottawa into something similar to Washington DC.

Actually not. Do we, as a country or government at any level want to become the nations largest rental agency??? Do we want to own all those homes and have to maintain then? My city already has nothing but issues with the low income housing it owns. Problems with tenants, problems with damage. Problems with constant maintenance and upgrades. Is that what you want? More of that? Landlords all over are selling their rental units because of the grief tenants give them and then we make laws and rules to protect tenants that have no skin in the game. Who is going to "invest" if there is no profit or income in the end? I am very sure you are not investing in rental units...and think that you are smart enough to not do that.
