America under President Trump
BeaverFever replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
He does have failing businesses according to his tax returns and the Saudis and Gulf states especially love to rent out Trump properties so they can funnel money to him and be rewarded. And all those campaign donations spent on events at Trump properties. He also owes hundreds of millions of dollars which will be due next year. And yeah people buy books you should try it sometime. Of course they did. That’s all that got reported on at the time. And there was an election and he was reduced to minority. Is it all coming back to you now? What does “was guilty” mean exactly? It doesn’t say he personally was involved and it’s such a small amount for a one-time scam. As I said it’s improper and should be investigated ^ Word salad. Crackpot conspiracy theory. Plus failed logic. He is the president of the united states and has the beat security in the world he can stay securely anywhere. Why would properties he owns be any more secure than any other property anyway? -

What a load of bs. Trump didn’t do anything different, the guy doesn’t even pay attention in briefings let alone have a strategy. Obama was criticized on the left for being too trigger happy with drones. America’s enemies aren’t afraid of Trump and his fake bonespurs. The real enemies like Russia have been emboldened -
Covid Is Turning Us Into a Socialist/Fascist Country
BeaverFever replied to WestCanMan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Most governments do, including your beloved conservative and Republican governments today. Having social programs doesn’t make a country socialist. Their markets still operated on supply and demand and not everything was regulated. Also during the war and the Great Depression you could say that about just about any industrialized country. Again not exclusive to socialism. Thats just dictatorship. No they didn’t. They openly denounced and persecuted socialists. They called themselves NATIONAL SOCIALISTS which they viewed as entirely different. I never said it was capitalist and free market. I said it’s Right-wing, which is not the same as capitalist or free market. Although the capitalists of the day preferred fascists to socialists. Uh no the closest thing to actual fascists are the ACTUAL fascists marching in Nazi uniforms and actually waiving swastikas at Unite the Right rallies. Like it’s literally called “unite the right” and they’re literally wearing swastikas for Christs sake. How much more of a hint so you need? -

It seem you didn’t read a history book at all. Sorry you don’t know what you’re talking about and your argument is really weak. And Right wing doesn’t mean “freedom “. There have always been right wing dictators. Putin is right wing. Pinochet was right wing. It just means promoting “traditional” values, social order and/or way of life, whatever that might be in a particular society. In fact the very first use of the term “right wing” referred to to those in the time of the French Revolution who sat together n the righ-hand side of parliament and wanted to preserve the French monarchy and rigid class structure in opposition to the revolutionaries on the Left-hand side. BTW, The Nazis privatized lots of public industries. Read the section of the Economy of Nazi Germany called “Privatization and businesses ties”: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_Nazi_Germany -

You don’t even know what is being discussed you’re just accusing me of saying shit I didn’t say. Straw Man much? Show me where I said anything about “all black people” please Ue Yeah woke enough to realize I didn’t want to live in that shithole state, racism wasn’t it’s only problem and the rest of the country isn’t much better even inside the few liberal bubbles America has a lot of systemic problems racism is just one. None of them started under Obama and none will magically disappear if only the right person can someday get elected president, as too many Americans in both side of the aisle foolishly believe. -

I’m a racist that’s rich. How does that work? Your claim which you’re trying to run away from now is that there was no racial tension in American society before Obama became president. Which is just hilarious OMG! You have to let the world know! Don’t keep this secret to yourself! ? UM YOU DO KNOW THE KKK PUBLICLY ENDORSED TRUMP RIGHT??? The KKK has been Republican for 50 years now after the southern conservatives were expelled or defected from the DNC after the civil rights era. And Trump refuses to condemn white supremacist groups. So it’s a little sad and pathetic that you keep bringing up that ancient history -

He had failing businesses. And once you’re POTUS you cant use the office of the president to make yourself richer by doling out favours to Saudis and sycophants who spend millions at your hotels while you order you own people to stay there. If he had any integrity he would AVOID his properties so as to avoid any appearance of self-enrichment. Books And after they leave office it’s speaking fees too That’s how it works Also Bernie is not rich. Having 3 houses doesn’t make someone rich His entire net worth is less than 2 million https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.townandcountrymag.com/society/politics/amp31437248/bernie-sanders-net-worth/ CBC, CTV and the rest of the media covered the scandal extensively including coverage of Conservatives criticism. You’re just upset because you want only one-sided coverage, hence your anger that they “let” Trudeau give his side You want them to not “let” him speak? By the way, eve your National Post article doesn’t accuse him of anything more than “not recusing himself” it just suggests there could be. For example it doesn’t say Trudeau was personally involved in planning that event But unlike you with Trump I’ve already agreed it’s inappropriate and bad optics A Canadian bureaucrat booking Margaret Trudeau as an event speaker looks a lot like an American one who stays at the Trump hotel It looks like there’s some sort of favour expected and it shouldn’t happen -

This discussion about forest fire management strategies has been going on for decades, it’s not something Trump came up with. There are times when certain strategies are appropriate and times when they aren’t. But most forests on fire aren’t even state-managed forest which are relatively small and few. In California for example the federal government manages 58% of the 33 million acres of forest land, the state controls 3% (that’s THREE percent). The rest is private. The real issue is climate change. -

I’m not saying Obama did everything right in hindsight but clearly the person who started the fire (Bush) is more to blame than the firefighter who could have done a better job in hindsight. Al Qaeda in Iraq, rebranded as the Islamic State of Iraq, had been pushed out of the country into Syria, where it was out of US reach and eventually absorbed anti-Assad militias and became ISIS. Their return to Iraq was not foreseen by anyone unfortunately. But given Trumps further withdrawals of troops from the region I fail to see how he’s doing anything differently. Another empty insult instead of an answer. Answer the question. -

North Koreas official name is the People’s Democratic Republic of Korea. Don’t be fooled by names The fascist in Germany and Italy were PRO Bourgeoisie, PRO big business. They jailed and murdered socialists by the thousands in concentration camps. Karl Marx and socialism were denounced loudly and often. NAZI supporters came primarily from other right wing parties they absorbed and their leaders and backers were from the countries” aristocratic class. Western aristocrats were often pro-Nazi, like Charles Lindbergh and George Bush’s grandfather Prescott Bush who was a Nazi financier for a time. Meanwhile working classes around the world were typically anti-Nazi especially organized labour and socialist groups When Nazi-allied Fascist Francisco Franco staged a coup and civil war in 1936 against the mildly socialist Spanish government, complete with Nazi air support, capitalist countries turned a blind eye. But Socialists and organized labour groups from around the world including from USA and Canada travelled to Spain to fight in multinational volunteer brigades alongside the Spanish army. The fascist dictator Franco won the war but he was welcomed by the capitalist countries anyway as he stayed neutral in WW2 and his regime lasted into the 1970s Famous Nazi war criminal Klaus Barbie was a fearsome hunter of communists and socialists during the Nazi regime and then worked for the US after the war hunting and torturing socialists in South America for various right wing dictators backed by the US The examples go on and on. Get a history book would ya? -

That a completely false representation of what I said and what was being discussed. You need to re-read the thread again. You have no clue what was being discussed here you just thought you could wade in and have the last word once you identify yourself as being Black. No, my question FOR YOU was why you didn’t censor him for his observations about the daily experience of black people given that he is a white Canadian. HE IS THE ONE who brought that up. So what’s your answer? Again go back and re-read the thread, you’re lost on a wild goose chase For the hundredth time WESTCAN CLAIMED THERE WAS NO RACIAL TENSION IN AMERICA BEFORE OBAMA. That is what is being discussed here and only that. Do you finally get it? Do you agree or disagree with his statement ? I disagree and you have to be black or American to have an opinion on that Anything else you think I said is just made up fiction in your own head LMAO you calling me hypocrite because I didn’t drop out of school and move out of state? And aren’t you an anti-Trudeau American living in Canada? Does that make you a hypocrite? -

North America is not Europe and on this side of the ocean we’ve had “mass immigration” ever since the first explorers arrived centuries ago, with Nativists in Canada and the US shrieking their failed predictions an immigrant apocalypse the whole time. We have nothing to learn from Europe. By the way, Germany turned out fine after all: How Angela Merkel’s great migrant gamble paid off Five years ago, as more and more refugees crossed into Europe, Germany’s chancellor proclaimed, ‘We’ll manage this.’ Critics said it was her great mistake – but she has been proved right https://www.google.ca/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2020/aug/30/angela-merkel-great-migrant-gamble-paid-off -

So to recap you’re saying only a black person is qualified to observe that there are racial tensions in American society? So I have that correct? If so that’s absurd. Also why then is WestCan qualified to declare that there was no racial tension before Obama was elected? Is he also a Black American? Also the controversy about Bush’s response to Hurricane Katrina and Kanye declaring on live TV “George Bush doesn’t care about Black People” never happened huh? FTR I went to Florida for university, went down there a young naive pro-USA 20 year old after spending a year in the Canadian Forces Reserve after high school. In those days I thought USA was awesome and Canada was quaint but boring. It didn’t take me long to see the truth however and I came home very pro-Canada and eyes wide open about America’s many flaws. -

No I am neither black nor American. To your tangential rant, I am not claiming black Americans are a monolithic block, know your personal experiences, define your victim hood etc Interestingly, your words sound very much like a lefty about to tell me I am appropriating your voice and stealing your truth, you use very much the same words as BLM and the like. Again the one only point here is that racial tensions have been a part of American society since the beginning and that’s true regardless of tour individual experiences. Westcan waa claiming there were no racial tensions and everyone was singing kumbaya until Obama came along but America has been bitterly divided for decades not just along racial lines. During my 5 years down south, which were kind of America’s last golden years up until the tech bubble popped and then 9-11 happened, I still heard white people who would swear they’re not racist use the N- word daily like “don’t eat at that Dennys that’s the N- - Dennys” and so on. Talk like that was part of THEIR daily life and they thought nothing of it. And they didn’t think they were racist. -

Unlike conservatives don’t have to cook up crackpot theories about some vast worldwide media conspiracy just because it’s a story that doesn’t suit my politics. Oh and didn’t you say the media is all some kind of leftist conspiracy if that’s true how is it this story tarnishing the leftist leaders image is even in the mainstream media? Weekly life then? I am not black but I lived in Florida for 5 years during the Clinton-Bush era and incidents on the news like “driving while black” encounters gone wrong, etc were frequent enough. And general conversations in social settings frequently turned to issues of race relations featuring opinions from all sides. Some of which I found quite shocking. How come only conservatives are “innocent until proven guilty “? Funny how rarely I hear conservatives say that about Trudeau or Hillary or Biden. The point is that the charges against him haven’t been withdrawn...again WestCan seems to be alleging the charges are part of some leftist plot. -

Manafort, Flynn, Stone, how many Trumpsters were convicted for lying to authorities, “conspiracy against the United States” laundering Russian money? How many were found to be in regular contact with know Russian government agents? The personal contacts of Trump campaign members were crawling with Russian government influencers whether they knew it or not. -

I guess when you live your life completely immersed in a bubble of right wing propaganda you would think the falsehoods you posted above are true but line-by-line they’re completely false and half-truths. The Mueller report enumerated at least ten acts by Trump that would constitute obstruction of justice if committed by any other person. Each are summarized here: https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/obstruction-of-justice-10-times-trump-may-have-obstructed-justice-mueller-report/ -

So you think segregation laws in the Jim Crow South weren’t at the forefront of daily life? Even after the civil rights era, it was and always has been at the forefront of daily life if you are black. And riots were frequent enough Just because people like you have spent your entire life blind and oblivious to the racism and racial tension all around you doesn’t mean it didn’t exist. I don’t know what claim you’re trying to make regarding the Floyd bodycam footage. The murderous cop hasn’t been exonerated and is still charged with murder -

For the hundredth time no it wasn’t. It was a quagmire in its SIXTH YEAR with thousands of casualties after the Republicans who started it promised it would only last a few months and few casualties. THAT’S EPIC FAILURE. All this pretending that you were just about to win it all after year upon year of tragic failure is childish “I loosened it for you” talk. There’s absolutely no reason to believe things were just about to magically turn around and ISIS is the natural evolution of the disaster Bush started. Full stop. No, he was just president when events took their course Tell me what exactly Trump did besides also withdraw forces from the region? -
