The Vietnam War started in the 1950s, according to most historians, though the conflict in Southeast Asia had its roots in the French colonial period of the 1800s.

Actually, all the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution did was open-up North Viet-Nam to retaliatory air raids for their partisan activities in South Viet-Nam. It was the Viet Cong attack on Bien Hoa that made LBJ send in the USMC in 1965. From there it grew into the bloated 500,000 man deployment

As for activity before LBJ sent in the 1st Marines, US advisors had been in-country since WW2. But the US wasn't at war.

Either way, Viet-Nam was a Democrat adventure. But to be fair, the idiot Left that pretends to be Democrat is nothing like LBJ....more in common with Ho and Mao than anything American.
