You gave your summation as if talking to a child. Your summation was neither reasonable nor accurate. I seriously do not understand your posts. Orchard is not an example of honesty and integrity failing in our political system. He was a nutcase and got screwed over because he made a childish, and unrealistic demand. NOBODY could have stopped the merger. Orchard was too foolish and naive to see this. You seem like those 'objectivists' who cannot understand why people mock the clear and concise writing of Ayn Rand, when in reality it is so childish and infantile it doesn't deserve serious consideration.

That's a good poll August. The Liberals gotta be nervous about that one. It is basically the same results the parties posted in the last election, with some minor but very important differeneces. In Ontario the CPC is 2 1/2 points higher than it was last June. The Liberals are 2.7 points lower and the NDs are about 2 points higher. With as many tight races as there were in 2004. This could mean a net loss of 15-20 Liberal seats in Ontario with the CPC picking up a few more than the NDs. In Quebec the Bloc is slightly ahead of where they were in 2004, a seat count in the high 50s is entirely reasonable at this point. The Liberals really don't want an election now. If one comes about and Gomery hits in the middle of it we are definitely looking at a CPC minority. Who knows it might actually be a good thing for the country. If anyone is interested, the Decima release can be found at their site www.decima.com

No need to get worked up about err. His idiotic rantings do detract from the purpose of the board... Doesn't really matter much on this thread though.

It's called being shrewd about one's choices. I definitely do not support the Liberals or the NDs. But given the demographics of that particular riding there is no way that it would go CPC in the coming election. Better Svend harping from the opposition side of the benches than another Liberal MP that might be enough to tip the balance...
-
Agreed, but I would rather see an ND serving as MP for Vancouver-Centre than a Liberal. Swend will win that riding easily in the next election.

Little intelligence in Eureka. Covered by arrogant behaviour on MLW message boards. Frustrated because others do not see the brilliance. Therefore, unable to comprehend a small little man like Orchard is likely sitting at home today still rueing the day that McKay got one over on him. Me ask reasonable question: You post childish, ig'nant response.

What a brutally accurate description of the OP!

Evangalis is rude, condescending and ignorant. To automatically include it in a list of names of right of centre parties truly shows how sad you are. I thought Greg had dealt with the random baiting when he kicked out mirror. Good job taking over as most immature poster err. Bravo to you!

Seriously f*ckwit, your post made no sense at all. Perhaps you could rephrase so someone pretending to be dim could understand it...

Why is it gay bashing? Because he used boyfriend? Seriously if you change 'boyfriend' to 'wife' or 'girlfriend' there is absolutely nothing wrong with the statement. Quit changing the topic! Svend should have been forced out of public life for more than one term after that mistake.

What does this mean? Seriously, help a brother out. This post makes no sense at all.....

kimmy, I totally agree that it is a good thing that Orchard is gone. I don't believe that MacKay "got" Orchard out of politics. MacKay only won the Progressive Conservative leadership by making a promise he couldn't have kept. The parties merged when they did because the big money supporters of both parties turned off the taps and said you have to merge. MacKay's short-sightedness hurt the party. Had he not made the deal with Orchard, Orchard would have released his delegates and Prentice would have won the Progressive Conservative leadership. Prentice had the organization and regional support to win the CPC leadership. Prentice would have been a much more credible leader nationally, still might be some day, and would likely have won the 2004 election at the helm of the CPC. No matter what Orchard was out of politics when the parties merged.

All this talk about McKay jumping to the provincial scene is great for the party. If he goes, Harper can consolidate his grip on power without the press having a field day about it just being the Reform party in different garb. I say this because McKay won't snipe from the sidelines like Joe Who because he wants a shot at the big prize again. If he stays, it confirms the mainstream leanings of the party. It's all good baby.

Probly the exact opposite of a similar poll at rabble.

Any support for these assertions or are you just out for a troll?

Don't know if anyone has really overlooked it, just seems pretty irrelevant at this point. They only way Dither's age comes into play is IF the Liberals win a majority. If the Liberals win a minority he gets booted. Any sort of CPC win and Martin gets booted. If the Liberals do win a majority Martin definitely resigns before the next election, it's just really unlikely to happen. Harper is only around for a while if the CPC wins. They lose and two strikes he is outta there.

Don't think I agree with this. There are a lot of moderate policies that the CPC could possibly find a middle ground with the BQ or even the Liberals on. Besides a CPC minority government would also have the benefit of a Liberal leadership race, which would buy them some time. So if the only argument against a CPC minority government is that it would mean another election shortly, then it looks good for them. That isn't a reasonable concern...

I agree and kinda wonder what Clark gets out of continually taking potshots from the sidelines. Seriously, what is he hoping to achieve? Don't be too hasty to come to that conclusion. There are some enclaves on the island that could turn for the party.... Which will hopefully happen. There is a prime example how the Liberals can't think outside the box. It only has to stop working for maybe five to ten percent of the electorate, then Dithers is in huge, huge trouble. Definitely going to be a minority government. "In all likelihood" is far too strong, if you put any faith in these poll results.... Harper has been doing a good job on this count lately. Seriously there has been nothing since Grewal, and that was a pretty strange case which never really hurt the party. ETA, just took a look at the numbers and this is a totally plausible situation. Basically it is the results from the 2004 election with the Liberals losing about four points to the NDs. The CPC basically holds its vote from 2004. Why would somebody who voted CPC in 2004 change their mind? Say the Liberals lose (from 2004 results) eight seats to the bloc, sixteen to the CPC and four to the NDs. New standing = Lib - 107 CPC - 115 BQ - 62 ND - 23 Which is good for the country for a number of reasons. Buh bye Dithers and it gives Harper the chance to show what he can do without giving him free range. btw August I made these projections ASSuming the CPC gets shut out in QC.

Thankfully Toronto isn't the whole country. There are what, 25 seats in the city limits? The Conservatives see Toronto as a very tough nut to crack, but there are a few possibilites. St. Paul's comes to mind. They'll probably focus on the 905, maritimes, solidifying their base in the west and shoot for a minor breakthrough (up to five seats?) in Quebec. Those ads the conservatives released not that long ago seem to be moving them in the right direction. Hopefully they keep the same tone.

Drugs: Decriminalization vs. Legalization

FTA clearly doesn't smoke or keep up to date. The original amount proposed was up to 30 grams. For those of you who do smoke that is a little over an ounce - which is a ton of weed. (excuse the pun) The most recent version of the bill has reduced the amount for possession to 7 grams, a quarter. -
kind of a dramatic title. No we cannot assume that a Liberal dominated senate would hold up/reject 'right-wing' legislation. A job as a Canadian Senator is one of the sweetest gigs imaginable. Little to no work. Great pay, great prestige, great pension. They wouldn't seriously f*ck with the bills passed by a Conservative government for reasons of self-preservation. The GST, and to a lesser extent Free Trade, examples are exceptions that prove the rule. They do not have the actual power top prevent legislation passing. They do consitutionally, but if the appointed senate ever really thwarted the effots of the elected House of Commons you would likely see a lot of momentum build for an elected senate. Buh bye jobs for life...

Liberals contemplating fall election?
shoop replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Of course they can work with the NDs. Just follow the Dithers playbook. Make a deal with the NDs, then renege on the majority of it. Who can't do that? Maybe Peter MacKay would be the ideal PM in that situation.... -
Coke-sniffing politician admits error
shoop replied to theloniusfleabag's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Pardon the huge transgression... thelonius, that is pretty crazy. Your experienc with illicit narcotics matches mine almost exactly. (Assuming that the wheee about mushrooms means it is AWESOME!) I have always thought that certain highs attract certain people. Maybe there is a connection between pot/hash/mushrooms and people who post on message boards. Back to the point of the thread. From everything I can see here in the heart of the Bloc (i.e. Saguenay) it looks like Boisclair is going to run away with this thing. I`m not sure how they are actually selecting the leader (i.e. delegates or universal vote) but he is looking like an easy first ballot winner at this point. -

Hmmm ScottBrison, any support for that. Oh, I guess we could look at the Web site in your signature. What an unbiased and informative site you have! Thanks for raising the level of debate here on MapleLeafWeb.
