uh huh. That's why I find it so sad and vacuous when NDPers and Liberals try and *tarnish* CPC supporters by calling us neocons and comparing us to GW Bush. That is so far from reality in the vast majority of cases it is laughable. No reason for these guys to actually do their homework. Far easier to use knee-jerk attacks that don't actually represent the truth of the situation.

I find it amazing how much more left-wing some of these *left-wing* U.S. politicians act once they are out of office. Take an honest look at what Clinton did in office, or what Gore campaigned to do. You will find them to be a lot closer to the CPC than either of them would admit now.

shakey you are a pretty reasonable dude so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. But, why are you making light of a thread that is discussing changes to the criminal code with the aim of cracking down on child predators? This is important to me because I think the safety of our children should be a priority for all Canadians. (And not a priority just in the Paul Martin sense of the term.) No, I was never preyed upon by a molester. Than again, I don't think I would be posting about it on an anonymous message board if I had been.

Why would anybody claim the CBC is biased? Hmmm, the longest story on tonight's National is about their *stunning* accusations about Brian Mulroney and Airbus ... based on the word of Karlheinz Schreiber and some withdrawl's from a bank account Schreiber controlled on *the same days he met with Mulroney*. OMG what absolute damning evidence. Maybe the RCMP should refile those charges against Mulroney. wtf? This *story* appears to add nothing to the case the RCMP dropped 12 years ago. A case the Feds dropped, issued a public apology over and paid Mulroney over $2,000,000 in damages for. Hmmm, this is now a *story* again on the same week the first time a non-Liberal government takes power in more than a decade. No bias there at all

Leafless, that's just embarrasing. Like pointing to something from Rabble and calling it credible. Frank and Frontpage are two different animals yet neither are really credible. Frank will print stuff based on anonymous faxes they receive without any confirmation. Whereas Frontpage has a bit of an agenda...
-
Some people do Shakey. tsk, tsk, tsk sad isn't it. You lose the election and you are no longer driving the agenda.
-
For example .... Yet again proving my point with your deafening silence IMT. Thanks for that.

There haven't been any numbers bandied about, the phrase I think I heard was "close in age". Two years sounds like a reasonable age difference under those guidelines. It would be 16 not 18 with the law the CPC has talked about. This is a very good issue for the CPC to move forward on. It appeals to their base, and will be very hard for opposition parties to oppose. The opposition to the private member's bill that failed in the fall was that it didn't have the "close in age" provision attached.
-
Lots of us worked hard for the CPC during the election. I don't really know how they betrayed anybody who volunteered for the party. Agreed that it is a bad move, perception-wise.

Nasty, nasty, nasty. Is a parliamentary secretary really being reduced in status? Reduced from what I ask? Kenney is the Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister for Multiculturalism. Ablonczy is the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance. Do your personal attacks equally apply to the unmelodically-voiced Anne McLellan? What are the odds?
-
Actually Shakey, that is correct. As long as there is no issue of "trust or dependency", i.e. a teacher or somebody in a parental role, Here is the link from the Parliament of Canada Web site. The Conservatives plan to make provisions for those close in age. With that provision attached it will be pretty tough for *any* member to object to this proposal.

So typical of the left to hurl blanket accusations as if gospel truth. (Irony intended. )

Hill is the chief government whip, which ain't all that bad... Hill Whip Release

That's a very interesting analysis. Perhaps, she saw no room for herself in a Klein cabinet. After leaving politics she came back under another party. Her actions were far different from those of Emerson, Stronach, and Brison. Very different. The very fair objections people have to somebody crossing the floor while sitting in a legislative body is one thing. To change your mind and come back for another party is all together different. People do change their minds some times.
-
Fair enough. Get used to being in opposition ... y'all will probably be there for a while! Seriously though, it appears that the little tempest in a teapot over Emerson is going to blow over. This story about the hockey gambling ring in New Jersey may push it off the headlines. (Gretzky's wife, tsk tsk.)

New Liberal Leader.......is it time for Justin Trudeau?
shoop replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That's pretty much the best summation of what motivated Trudeau. Scoring cheap political points. No real remorse or care for the country as a whole. Canada is a diverse country, a PM's decisions cannot always be in the best interest of the power bases that elected him. -
If Martin's talk about ameliorating the democratic deficit would have been more than talk a lot of these problems would have been dealt with. We will have to see if Harper can get through his five priorities first, but there might be some movement on electoral reform. We know that is what Jack is demanding.

Speaker is a hell of a plum. Lots of people want speaker. No clue about Hill's chances in particular.

Whatever happened to ethical, accountable government?
shoop replied to BubberMiley's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It isn't like this is a really *new* revelation anyways. Toews' conviction was news well before the election. The voters knew it and still elected him. -
Stef, you keep on arguing about the significance of Ambrose living a ten minute drive out of the city, while still living in the boundaries of her riding .... that's an important one! So it is inulting to lump all liberals together and call them all nasty names ... but anybody whos supports the CPC is *automatically* a right-wing neo-con? With logic like that I guess I am relatively happy you consider me to be an *idiot*. And they say the Liberals are bereft of new ideas! STEFROCKS for leader!!!
-
Stef is just a little nutty. Nothing to really worry about, I guess. Definitely angry about *something*. It can't all be about the outcome of this election ... can it?
