  1. Seriously, only social retards express really strong views from either side of the spectrum unless they are surrounded by close friends they are comfortable talking about these things with. Man, I went to this language gathering last week. Buddy comes, can't speak the language in question at all, and spends his entire time on this anti-Alberta/anti-anglophone rant. Behaviour like that should be kept online and anonymous. Morooooon. esmack can be a lot of fun. Never take things too seriously I figure.
  2. It is amazing how quickly people convert to supporting the CPC based on profession and/or region of the country they live in. Soon enough the CPC hegemony will rival the heady majorities of Diefenbaker and Mulroney.
  3. Oh the ever-witty and intellectually superior left. Do tell what constitutes *intelligence* in the world of gerryhatrick?
  4. The perks (kickbacks?) for Liberal leaders comes when they are working out of the PMO. They don't get the same thing with a party in massive debt and only being the Official Leader of the Opposition.
  5. Is this considered starting a thread of the "I know you are but what am I" variety? There were some valid points made in the NDP thread. Your thread is just sad and irrational. Kinda like a lot of people's gutteral hatred for our Prime Minister. Oh yeah, wasn't the reason that thread was started because the NDP has never formed government and no realistic prospects for doing so in the short to medium term?
  6. And replace it with?
  7. I didn't really get that leap either. I was just wondering if the subsidies going to the CBC can be justified on the basis of lack of access to other sources of Canadian content.
  8. Thanks. My entire view is that internet forums are for debate. Of course you are going to run into people who disagree with you. If you are looking for confirmation of your world view go to Rabble or FreeDominion, based on which way you swing. I like this forum because it represents a spectrum of views. I never take anything personally on forums, in spite of the view that I do. You gotta remember anonymity brings a lot out in people...
  9. But aren't they both rights that should be protected?
  10. Are you saying that you, in Mid Ontario, only get CBC and no other TV channels?
  11. So anybody who has immigrated to this country isn't a true-blue Canadian then? I don't see BC voluntarily sharing extra money from the income it receives for stumpage fees with the other provinces. What exactly is your point?
  12. How small and remote must a population be that it can only receive CBC? No CTV or Global? Hmmm, still not making a convincing case for subsidizing the CBC. Wouldn't that money be better spent getting remote communities online?
  13. The difference of a city of a million people being in code red for several hours and several minutes is the difference between a very rare preventable death or dozens of preventable deaths in one day. You overstated your case with that one. A bit of a drama queen aren't you. I don't think you are using perpetuate correctly... Are you newbie too? Or just taking your talking points from him? If that were my true intent it clearly isn't working in this case. In spite of your insistence to the contrary I don't have an *in* with Greg. Thus I don't have access to IP logs, etc, to prove anybody has been here under different names.
  14. I guess I must be daft if you say so. Exactly what are you getting so irate about? Does it really drive you to such rage that your childish little antics are so easily discredited? Are there larger issues at play you need to tell us about? You don't work for Canada Post do you? Please don't interperet my honest quesstion as a *lie* about your employment...
  15. So you believe in the right to vote, but not to express your ideas freely?
  16. Why thank you. It ain't often I get accused of usin' fancy talk. I think you just provided my proof.
  17. gerry glad to see you are back. And adding as much to the conversation as usual!
  18. Right indeed. I wonder where Canada would be if Turner had won in 1988... Very tough to argue we would be in anywhere near as good a position as we are in now. ps, slavik I couldn't really tell if you were serious. Regardless, the notwithstanding clause wouldn't have any bearing on the way a province governs its natural resources.
  19. Funny how nobody remembers Jane Creba. Was boxing day only seven weeks ago? With the present Government in power, the perpetrator would have been in jail over the holidays and Jane would still be alive.
  20. No way. The Liberals would have to swing left to satisfy their base and keep the NDPs from bolting again. Kinda random argument though. The NDP isn't going anywhere.
  21. Ahhh, it is Alberta's oil. See we have this littlet hing called the "constitution". Which decides what belongs to the Federal Government and what belongs to the provinces. From Constituion Act 1867 - s. 92A Sorry Drea. The law is the law.
  22. kimmy, the one I heard was that the CPC was funded by U.S. Christian fundamentalists in the election. It's funny, and sad, because it is true. I am saddened by who told me this *fact* though. Somebody who should have been one of the famous Tim Horton's crowd that Harper was supposed to win over this election. How can we ever win people over if they are convincing themselves this crap is acatually true?
  23. I guess since your hubby's friend is a prison guard (and he is ready to go on strike) it gives you the right to avoid all logic? Granted you need guards, but would the government *ever* allow a the entire federal prison system to shut down for a few months. Even if the guards did go on strike it likely wouldn't be legal. Think of the public safety conserns alone. If they did go on strike here is what would happen. Either: A. Legally ordered back to work ASAP with a mediator involved. (Most likely.) OR B. Look for RCMP, city police officers, armed forces (regular and reservist) to all be called in, in the event of a *short* legal strike. That would be such terrible PR for the guards I can't see it ever happening. Thanks for that though. Any more info from your connections inside the federal prison system?
  24. Harper is showing his shrewdness yet again. At first glance I thought he made a huge mistake with bringing up Traditional Marriage on the first day of the campaign. Then things died down. It looked like brillaint timing in hindsight. The Emerson thing looks like the same successful strategy. After the election win he deserves the benefit of the doubt I spoke to a buddy of mine who hates Harper. He honestly tried to argue that the CPC deserved all the heat it got over Emerson because their entire campaign was really about corruption. Sure the campaign *sounded* policy driven, but the *obvious* undercurrent was corruption. wtf? When there is that much irrational hate for Harper all he can do is stay true to himself and go with a long run plan. Good work so far PM Harper. A fair and speedy resolution to softwood lumber will raise all doubts about Emerson ASAP.
  25. Gotta love your facts. It *could* be that the entire federal prison system shuts down for a couple months???? Who are you kidding? That sooo will not happen. I also like how the OP mentioned a *local article* but no support of any kind for that one...
