Lack of Conservative Confidence
Yzermandius19 replied to Queenmandy85's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The entire world is becoming America, not just North America. Manifest Destiny is winning, freeing all the slaves everywhere, slowly but inevitably. Peter Sunde is a complete non-sequitur, that has nothing to do with anything and certainly isn't a good measure of the progress of Manifest Destiny. -

Canada and Mexico are de facto American territories, totally dependent on the American economy, culture and military. -

Sounds to me like you are trying to make manifest destiny something it isn't, constraining it to a limited definition that does not adequately describe the concept. -

America doesn't need to invade. Canada is already a de facto American territory, no need to annex it. Manifest Destiny has already won, no need to fire a shot in Canada's case, cultural, economic, and military dependency on America FTW. -

The site is American, it's run from America, not Canada. -

You are into historical narratives that promote a bullshit fake Canadian identity, you don't care about what actually happened, to you it's all about the imaginary Republic of Zeitgeist. -

All the King's horses and all the king's men can't put Humpty together again, even if they wanted to try, which they don't. Lost cause. -

You get your knowledge from bullshit revisionist narratives. Canada is incapable of doing things on it's own terms, especially when it comes to the military, you wishing that wasn't true doesn't make it so. Humpty Dumpty can't be put back together again, you're just in denial and want to try anyway. -

I know the history, so well that I know the common narrative you are repeating is bullshit you tell yourself to make you feel better about Canada. Turning a molehill into a mountain, as if capturing Vimy held any strategic importance whatsoever, it was a meaningless victory that had zero impact on the course of the war, that people try and turn into a moment that was a launching pad for Canadian nationalism, when Canada didn't even give a shit at the time. WWI to Canadians was about Canada proving they were still British, not about them separating themselves from the British. The entire narrative is revisionist history, fake news. -

Revisionist History. Fake News. Declaring War separately from Britain came long after Vimy, and wasn't because of Vimy. You want to believe in a Canadian nationalism that doesn't actually exist, so you buy into the Vimy propaganda. You want Canada to be about separating itself from Britain, when Canada's being British is it's real national identity. -
America under President Trump
Yzermandius19 replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Trump wants America to win, not everyone else to lose. Trump is a raise all boats guy, but what he isn't, is a raise all boats but America guy, and that is what rubs you the wrong way. America First isn't about punishing the world, it's about America benefiting more from globalism instead of making sacrifices to help the world at it's own expense. -

Just today, the NDP are projected to win less seats than the Bloc Quebecois. So not sure why you think the NDP are doing so great. -

They didn't fight to be separate from the British Army, they fought gladly for the British, they didn't care about being swallowed up by someone else. You are projecting your own beliefs on those who were there, based on revisionist history. -
Lack of Conservative Confidence
Yzermandius19 replied to Queenmandy85's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It's both. The road to hell is paved with good intentions and the economic illiterate politicians are blowing sunshine up the asses of the well intentioned economic illiterate electorate to get elected, whether they are blowing the same sunshine up their own asses or not. -

Stupid policies also exist with popular opinion supporting them, it happens all the time. The Supply Management Cartel is a prime example. If politicians support unpopular positions that people actually care about, another politician can come along and take their job. It's the electorates fault, the politicians just pander to them and blow sunshine up their asses for the most part. Mob rule does not result in wise policy making, especially in Canada, the public support all kind of stupid policies. Also Catholic Schools are better than Public Schools, the public being against that, simply proves my point about the stupidity of the electorate. -

Scheer is going to lose, the soft NDP and Green supporters will vote strategically to stop Scheer and the Liberals will win. The polls being so close actually works against the Conservatives, especially with a slight lead. -

The conservatives win by the left splitting it's vote, not by winning over the left. Trying to poach Liberals while pissing off conservatives ain't going to work. -

I wish, but he doesn't. More people support the cartel than oppose it, hence it's existence. Would be nice if more people opposed it than supported it, if that was the case then Scheer would support it, but wishful thinking doesn't make it so unfortunately. -

Cleary Argus has no clue what a Red Tory actually is, or why they got that name, since he's comparing them to Bolsheviks and thinks the name was acquired as a pejorative based on how close they are to Commies. -
Immigrants cost Canada $30 billion per year
Yzermandius19 replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
White men hiring white men, has nothing to do with skin color and everything to do with qualifications. The reason less women and some minority groups make less than white men is not because of race or sex based discrimination, it has to do with less of those people wanting "positions of power" and not being as qualified to attain them because of their own personal choices, while more white men were willing to make the sacrifices necessary to attain those positions. Plenty of minority groups are willing to make those sacrifices even more often than white men and that's why they earn more than white men, it has nothing to do with discrimination. -
America ain't broke, and even if they were, they are less broke than everyone else. Canada relying on the US is good thing, there is a reason why Canada does it, and that's because it's more beneficial than relying on anyone else. That isn't going to change any time soon, so if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

It's only protected in the charter if the notwithstanding clause isn't invoked. The Charter isn't worth the paper it's written on. -
America under President Trump
Yzermandius19 replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
It's actually based on their history. The British took their guns, they didn't like that, so they rebelled, and when they wrote the bill of rights, they put in the second amendment to help prevent it from happening again. A wise precaution, especially given their historical experience. Many of the second amendment haters simply do not know American history, and fail to understand the context for the second amendment as a result. The rest simply have an irrational fear of inanimate objects, and blame the tool for the actions of the people using that tool for nefarious ends. -

Fantasies of civil war being right around the corner are just that, a fantasy.
