Trudeau denies funding for student summer jobs.
blackbird replied to taxme's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You are incorrect. There is nothing in the Charter of Rights which says anything about abortion. No law has been passed to make abortion legal either. It is Trudeau's personal progressive crusade driving this. -
The idea of native witch doctors, sometimes called Shaminism was viewed as an uncivilized practice. The non-native society, government and churches believed that natives had to be assimilated in white man's society. The idea of people keeping their aboriginal culture and religions was not considered the best way to go. We need to keep in mind society has changed, especially in the last number of decades. 100 or 150 years ago the idea of a Charter of Rights or individual freedom to do your own thing never existed. The rights that are enthroned today for natives and immigrants to keep their own culture and religion is a recent development called multiculturalism. There may still be certain aspects of native religion or culture that are not known and which could not be practiced or accepted today because it would be harmful to people or against the law.

The word "morality" actually is a relativistic term. It comes from the word mores, which refers to the general practices of what society accepts or does not accept. It can change with the times as new fads or ideas develop. We see this with the wide acceptance of abortion and LGBT rights. Other "rights" seem to be coming more to the fore now or being proclaimed as rights. I think if you look into it you will find all societies throughout history have some kind of mores which they taught their children. What they taught their children was likely derived from what their particular religion in their area taught them, whatever it was. It is only in recent times in the west that the idea of secular humanism has developed and grabbed onto by society. This may be partly because of the immigration system. Previously most of the immigrants to Canada and the U.S. came from Europe. That meant they were either Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, or Protestant. But in the last fifty years, with the increasing immigration from third world non-christian countries, it has been decided that no religion should be taught in public schools. Some provinces get around this by providing extra funding to Catholic schools, which are guaranteed by the Constitution to receive funding. But Pierre Trudeau I believe introduced or promoted the idea of multiculturalism. This meant the religion of all immigrants would have to be treated equally in public schools. We also see fewer people attending churches in Canada in recent years. This has resulted in a greater emphasis of no religious teaching in public schools. Except in recent times, the Ontario government has added some human rights code or law to require public schools to "accommodate" other religions to some extent. This is why we see some schools allowing a 15 minute prayer meeting for Islam in the gymnasium on Fridays.

I meant the number of residential schools compared with non-residential Catholic schools. Must be hundreds of Catholic schools in existence.
-
Your bigotry dominates your thinking and comments. Impossible for you to consider anybody else's perspective.
-
You obviously mis read Omni comment and my reply. He/she incorrectly referred to the horrors of Catholic schools.. There are hundreds of Catholics schools (day schools) across the country, which were not a horror story. I thought he/she meant to say the native residential schools were a horror, but said Catholic schools were a horror. But if you want to jump in and throw stones at everyone, go ahead.
-
You must have meant to say native residential schools, not Catholic schools. There are no horrors in Catholic schools. (Except in a few places in the past like the Mount Cashel boy's boarding school in Newfoundland run by some Catholic brothers and possibly another boarding school which I think are all closed now)

If he didn't have to do anything else during the day, it is quite conceivable he spoke that much on radio, TV, schools, churches, public meetings. I don't find it that difficult to believe. But whatever you wish to believe's fine with me.

This website contrasts Islam with christianity. It says the religion of end-times Bible prophecy will be Islam. It says in part: "The pre-Islam pagan Arabs worshiped the Moon-god Allah by praying toward Mecca several times a day; making a pilgrimage to Mecca; running around the temple of the Moon-god called the Kabah; kissing the black stone; killing an animal in sacrifice to the Moon-god; throwing stones at the devil; fasting for the month which begins and ends with the crescent moon; giving alms to the poor, etc. If you have read the news in recent months, you know that modern day Muslims practice these very rituals. The Muslims are worshiping the same false god that people have been worshiping since early times as far back as Israel's beginnings. Most importantly, Muslims say you don't need to believe in Jesus Christ to be saved! Muslims will admit that Jesus Christ was a true prophet, but deny that He was the Messiah (although some Western Muslims will say He was anointed), they will deny that He was God manifested in the flesh as of the Son of God (John 1:14), and they will deny that He died on the cross and rose again. Does that make sense? Absolutely not! That belief cannot be truth because Jesus Christ Himself said He was the Messiah, and said He was the Son of God! Unquote Further it says: " The word Islam means "submission". Not only in the sense of submission to Allah, but in the sense of making everyone submit to the rule of Islam. Islam is about subduing the world and making it submit. The Muslims believe that Mohammed is the exemplar of right conduct. They aspire to be like him in the same manner that Christians aspire to be like Jesus. Mohammed said to spread, through warfare, the rules of Islam. Mohammed became increasingly violent during his career and spent 10 years in Medina creating an army to overthrow his homeland, Mecca, after he was ran off by the pagans in 622 AD. He killed thousands of people and subdued Arabia through war. Muslims are encouraged to commit acts of heroism in combat. They are promised that those who kill and are killed will be rewarded with paradise. This is the basis for suicide bombers. They believe that since they are killing while they are killed that the sin of suicide is covered by the martyrdom of their action and, as such, they will be rewarded in heaven. Islam is a religion of political rule, a system of government. It is not about a personal relationship with Allah, it is about bringing the world under submission to its rule. The apostle Paul spoke about the importance of God working through the written word when he said "5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; 6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life." 2 Corinthians ch3 vs 5,6 King James Bible There have been many false teachers down through the ages, who used parts of the word (the Bible) and twisted it for their own evil purposes.

Consider what God says about those who despise the Word of God, the Holy Bible. "To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it." Jeremiah 6:10 Appears your ear is "uncircumcised". " Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts." Zechariah 7:12 So it also appears your heart is as an adamant stone. Those who set themselves against God's word are like ants who want to fight against an elephant. Makes about as much sense.

There is even archeological information about the famous place called Bethel (house of God) mentioned in Genesis, the first book of the Bible. They discovered a settlement established there around 2000 B.C. and destroyed by a very fierce fire during the thirteenth century B.C. There is also archeological information about the city of Jericho, another famous city in the Bible.

I think you are mistaken in your idea. The Old Testament had nothing to do with bedtime stories for children. The Old Testament was written by prophets who were chosen men of God and who had experiences with God. They were inspired to write what they wrote and their experiences. These writing were Holy Scripture and ancient scribes had to copy each letter by hand on animal skins or such, letter by painstaking letter. No mistakes were allowed or the whole thing had to be done again. So it is an accurate record of what the prophet wrote. These are not stories handed down by mouth. The Jews handled the Holy Scripture with the utmost care. They were God's chosen people and that was their job. I have a large King James Bible with an archaeological supplement in the back, which I have not read yet. But there is a vast amount of information from finds in the Holy land and various places mentioned in the Old Testament. I must start reading some of this.

Interesting about the computer field. yes there are some interesting stories about how some young guys started Apple and became wealthy and successful.. Unfortunately you haven't studied the Bible so don't know as much about it as you think to be able to dismiss it out of hand. Unfortunately I am not that knowledgeable on it or would be able to address it better. The Bible history of Israel is not fiction and I think archeology may support a lot of things recorded in the Bible.

Interesting. I had an uncle who is gone now. He was electrical engineer and an inventor. I can't remember the things he told me he invented. But he was definitely a very eccentric person. I heard that he had wires all over inside his house. I think he actually might have invented one the early bar code readers for the postal code system for the post office, but I'm not sure. I only met him a couple times and he told me a few things. He said the government got the Japanese to manufacture the computer equipment to read the postal codes and when the government met with the Japanese, nobody could understand them because they didn't speak English. I guess they must have had a translator.

I don't know about the "church". The church never gave us the Bible and never wrote it. It was written by men under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. In the beginning the first five books were written by Moses. The story of the people of Israel being led out of Egypt by Moses and with the miraculous power of God is another evidence of the power of God. It happened over three thousand years ago I believe. I am not a fan of the RC church. I read a lot of history about it the past. The history of the Popes is quite an eye opener. Before 313AD , believers met secretly in small groups and if caught, some were put in the lion's den in the collesium in Rome. After Constantine, the Roman Emperor, was supposedly converted in 313AD, christianity was legalized and became the state religion of the Roman Empire. That is when the Roman church began I believe. Constantine wanted to keep the peace in the Roman Empire so developed the new religion to placate everyone. It was kind of an amalgamation of christianity and false religion.

Yes, I see you know something about micro computer technology. I guess they use some kind of microscopic photography and chemicals to manufacture the microscopic electronic computer circuitry. I don't know. But it would have to be all done by robotic controls and somebody sitting at a screen controlling it I would imagine.
-
No , that's nothing to with a scam artist. There are many, maybe millions of people in the world who would tell you the same thing. You just have the notion that God would have to be created or that there is no God. God always existed. He is above the material universe and outside it. He designed it and created it because he has infinite power to do whatever he wishes. Hard to understand. There are some things we are not meant to understand. The basic premise that God is and that's how he describes himself when he said "I am" must be accepted by faith. There is no other way to explain it as far as I know. He is infinite in power, wisdom, knowledge and created the vast complex universe of which we are a tiny speck in it and only here for a little more than the blink of an eye.
-
Yep, completed an NRI correspondence course on microprocessor and microcomputers 25 years ago. I believe in the manufacturing process they use incredible technology because they are manufacturing microscopic computer circuitry that you probably couldn't see with the bare eye.

When we get into the complexities of science I kind of think it is a hopeless place to go. I prefer to look at the complexities of the universe and believe it couldn't be an accident or happen by itself without some master designer. It's just vastly too complex and incredible. That's my take on it anyway.

This is the link for the debate between two highly qualified scientists. One who believes in creation and one in evolution. You don't have to watch it. I watched part of it but it was beyond my capability to understand. If you found anything false in it, I would be amazed. I tried to edit this to get the video to start at the beginning but wasn't able to for some reason. You have to drag the video play cursor to the beginning and it will work.
-
OK. Well he has his style. I can't say whether it is the best. This other video I came across this evening between two real scientists is a very professional, high level debate. But it's very technical and I don't see any use in posting the link for it. I doubt you would get much out of it. Just that there are some very highly educated scientists that do believe in creation and have a massive amount of science to back them up.
-
I guess that makes us equal. If I wasn't convinced about what the Bible says, then maybe I would be searching for something. But when one is convinced about what they believe, why would they spend their time looking for alternative ideas and contrary opinions.??|
-
I'll be honest I'm not really into watching all that stuff. I am convinced about what I believe and not searching or interested in watching other videos. This is not an equal opportunity deal. You have already decided yourself it's all propaganda so what is there to say?
-
There is another youtube debate between two scientists, one a creation scientist and the other an evolution scientist. But I figured you probably wouldn't be interested anyway. I watched part of it and I have to admit, it is quite technical and involved. Over my head.
