If you don't agree punked you're either a Liberal or Conservative.
-
Except when it comes to dropping New from your name?
-
Like I've told you before socialist I'm not a Liberal. Can the NDP leader not decide policy, because that's what I've heard? Maybe I'm wrong.
-
Well it's up to the leader in the end. Layton made odd comments about the Bank of Canada while Turmel said she thought private companies salaries should be capped.
-
Well he plans on moving them closer to centre, and describes himself as a fiscal moderate. He'll probably be a Gary Doer Dipper, and he's been criticized for being a Liberal.
-
Well Mulcair's plan seems to be that he will turn the NDP into the Liberal Party, that's why they're worried.
-
The only one that is probably up to Harper and Rae's level is Mulcair, and it would appear he'll turn the party into the Liberals. I agree that Dewar is very likeable.
-
I've followed it a bit but it's just not interesting. While it might be a leadership convention and not a policy convention, the leader still determines the policy. I would hope the leader would agree with the policies they run on in an election. Plus you can agree with an overall vision but different ways of getting there. The debates have seemed quite easy and the contenders haven't seemed to be asked about tough issues, I don't think any of them have mentioned what they'll do with the Bank of Canada or how much they will interfere in the private sector.

Does anyone care about the NDP leadership? The race will be concluding in two months and I've still seen little on it, nobody seems to talk about the race or care that much about it.
-
And he didn't come back for you!
-
I've thought the same thing. Does she speak French?

Jane Taber mentions some new names in this article including; Geoff Regan, Naheed Nenshi, Gregor Robertson and Jean-Marc Fournier. She also says that the only potential female candidate as of now is Belinda Stronach. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/ottawa-notebook/bob-rae-and-beyond-potential-contenders-for-the-top-liberal-job/article2306439/

The party doesn't appear to have a big selection in leadership candidates, especially one to take out Rae if he runs.

Thomas Mulcair is a French Citizen

Jack Layton would be pissed. -
Who cares about beating the best. The Conservatives can't stay in power forever, if the Liberals don't gt stronger we may one day be stuck with a socialist Prime Minister.
-
So you'd rather see the Liberal Party destroyed and the NDP become the only potential alternative to the Conservatives?
-
Does anyone know if Martin Cauchon popular in Quebec?
-
She also seems to be a blue Grit.

There have been people who have said Rae should step down soon if he plans on running. If people who plan on being candidates say that Rae needs to step down soon then the executive are going to be under pressure to have him step down within a few months. If Crawley, who is supposedly lukewarm on Rae running, and the executive decide the interim leader is ineligible from entering the race unless he steps down a year before the vote then Rae will have know choice. The executive have the power, not Rae. The party will likely not jeopardize having fewer candidates enter the race because they are afraid to give Rae an ultimatum.

There are more calls for Justin Trudeau to reconsider his earlier decision to not run for the leadership. One poll conducted late last month showed that if he ran against Harper and Brian Topp in election there'd be almost a three way split in the vote with the Harper Conservatives a few points ahead of the Trudeau Liberals and the Topp NDP a few points behind the Liberals. Trudeau is likely the only person at this moment who could defeat Rae, I don't know who'd be scarier. http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2012/01/16/john-ivison-justin-needs-more-than-a-moustache-to-qualify-as-a-leader/

Not really, the former president has already said that he would, or should, have to step down 6 months prior to the vote and it is thought he will be under pressure to step down in the very near future if he plans to run. It will be up to the executive when he steps down, they may decide he needs to step down a year or 9 months in advance of the vote. It won't matter when he publicly announces his decision if the party already has rules stating that the interim leader must step down by such a date to be eligible.
-
There are no rules banning Rae from running for the leadership, he'd just have to go back on his word that he'd not run.
-
So Marc Garneau, David McGuinty, Martin Cauchon, Mark Holland and Gerard Kennedy have all indicated interest in the leadership of the party. The way Liberals have been getting off over Bob Rae's defense of his term as the NDP premier of Ontario I don't know what chance any of these people have of beating Rae.

Toronto-Danforth By-election

Like I've said it's not my team. I highly doubt he'd run to but it's all speculation on mine and your part. Looking at the NDP candidate, and ho many people voted in the nomination, Seamus wouldn't have to hard of a time winning the seat. The NDP weren't able to come up with much of a candidate so a high profile Liberal should be able to take it, if they are actually having the renewal they let on. -
You mean because the NDP couldn't get people out to there's?
