  1. I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with being a party that can move to the right or the left depending on the mood of the public. However, I think they've abandoned their more centrist approach to that idea. The economy has been a huge issue and the Liberals had little about it in their last platform, their big thing was increasing taxes to fund social programs. The Liberals plan has seemed to be to move to the left and squeeze out the NDP, and it failed miserably.
  2. Well seeing they ran on the NDPs former platform last election I think it's safe to say they became a left wing party in recent years. Maybe they're not as big of socialists as the NDP but if they continue on the course they've been on in recent years they might as well decide to put socialist in their constitution.
  3. Why? I never saw no great performances by him, though his debates were much better then that pitiful speech he gave at the convention.
  4. This from someone who supports Mulcair.
  5. Trudeau now has a team put together for a potential leadership bid, which includes Gerald Butts who was fairly prominent in McGuinty's office. http://www.ipolitics.ca/2012/07/20/lawrence-martin-trudeaus-team-takes-shape/
  6. Right! Someone should delete this thread all together!
  7. Latest Nanos shows a decline in NDP support with the Libs in second in every region but BC. Mulcair numbers also dropped off a bit in the leadership index. Is this poll off or is his honeymoon ending?
  8. Finally Harper gives people a MAJOR reason not to support him!!!!!!!!
  9. His track record hasn't been that bad, he's done quite well in provincial elections. The last federal election he was off but for good reason, we had huge swings in party support for the NDP, Liberals and Bloc so it was very difficult to predict what would happen. He's also relying on pollsters who have been off too.
  10. Why didn't they care about how many people it takes to do the job till now? They've been in ocffice since 2006 and instead of shrinking the public service they kept expanding it. 2006 and 2007 would have been great years to to trim the public service because we had a booming economy with a private sector that could have employeed people who lost their jobs. The job market is not that great now and Harper is forced to lay off people to get the budget balanced.
  11. Still doesn't reach out to a large number of people, unless it make tv news. The TV is the oh way many older Canadians would see it. Unless you can get these ads in TV you're rarely getting a bang for your buck IMO.
  12. Maybe, maybe not. The NDP won't be able to afford having these broadcasted on TV very much so the vast majority of Canadians will never see them, unlike CPC attack ads.
  13. The NDP use to let on that they wouldn't resort to attack ads, that they were more positive then that.
  14. I guess they're not above these anymore?
  15. He worked and paid into them. I also find it odd that he'd get a pension from both cities and the province, his years of service would likely have been transferred to each job.
  16. Mulroney inherited a horrible fiscal mess from Trudeau and Harper has governed through a recession. I don't agree with a number of Harper's fiscal policies the way critics get on you'd swear all other parties would be in surplus had they been in power.
  17. I like consumption taxes, though not great for the poor.
  18. They only had CPC support 6 points lower the day before the election sure.
  19. Only a few points behind the NDP.
  20. There polling has tended to have lower Consevative numbers and higher support for the Greens.
  21. Yeah because there are so many people out there willing to uproot their whole lives for the courtesy of the Canadian taxpayer.
  22. Why would someone want to be in the senate then if they're only going to make the average Canadian wage?
  23. I kind of thought a similar thing except I thought about people who will make a huge salary for a few years and hen go back sweeping floors in an office.
