I highly doubt conservatives will win at all!!!.
-
Yes according to Leger survey this morning puts the Liberals in the lead with 32% support, the Conservatives are second with 30% while the NDP is at 26%.. It looks like voters are beginning to realize that the only way to block another 4 years of nightmare is strategically to switch to Liberals in those ridings where there is a tight race between Liberals and conservatives.

Nanos most recent poll (overnight) shows Liberals on the top again likely at the expense of NDP. I am both confused and dizzy by this. Nice surprise but are they playing Yo Yo with us!!.

Strategic Voting - It needs to be done
CITIZEN_2015 replied to marcus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Nothing wrong with strategic voting to choose the least worse or to prevent the worst or most incompetent taking over, better defines it. It is a plot by Tory supporters and religious right to make a good positive act look bad and deter a good positive strategic deed. They fool no one. Recent polls shows a small rise in Liberal fortune (and I intended to vote for NDP until a few days ago but Liberals address most of my beliefs too) and a small fall in NDP. -

Another good indication of strategic voting is very gradually but surely building up as Liberals gain 0.5% in just two days (since last poll tracking) likely same exact 04% that NDP dropped and the conservatives no change. Keep up the good work. CPC NDP LIB BQ GRN OTH 31.8% 27.3% 31.3% 4.3% 4.6% 0.8% +0.0 -0.4 +0.5 +0.1 -0.1 -0.1 -

I am giving you a factual figure my friend but I see that we agree to disagree and I respect your view on the subject. Those who don't vote still are citizens of this country and will be counted as citizens but they do not have anyone or any party who will address their beliefs and issues. So should they vote anyhow for someone they don't believe in? Btw, recent Nanos poll shows Liberals back in the lead even though it is statistically a clear tie. May be the strategic voting is very gradually materializing as NDP very gradually dropping or Trudeau is dong much better than what was expected of him. Liberals, Conservatives in dead heat with NDP trailing: Nanos poll -

The fact remains that a party which only 25% of population (or eligible voters) agreeing with their policies form a majority and impose its will upon the remaining 75% who either did not agree with their policies and voted for the opposition OR did not vote for them because very likely they did not agree with their as well as other parties' policies and did not vote at all. -

Well I wouldn't be too harsh on those who don't participate, though I personally do encourage voting. We are enjoying a democracy and the right to vote freely and these are privileges that we must not take for granted as there are billions others who are deprived of same rights all over the world and tens of millions are facing jail and torture and even risking death in order to achieve what we have in Canada already. That said it is part of democracy and freedom not to vote as well if one wishes to and I can see their perspective that if none of the parties addresses their beliefs or concerns (or the general feeling among some that all politicians are same ..........), do they still have to vote for someone they don't like or don't believe in? Likely not. -

If Liberals and conservatives are tied and you vote for a party that statistically has no chance to be elected as government you prop up the Tories by taking a vote away from challenging Liberals. Not true it is much worse than you think marcus. A party can form a majority with only 25% of eligible voters like last time. Considering that only 60 to 70% of eligible voters vote in an election (and the most likely reason the other 30 to 40% don't participate is likely because they have no faith in any of the parties or no party represent their beliefs) then with 39% of vote means only 25% of eligible voters vote for the party which formed a majority. In other words the minority religious right dictates the remaining 75 to 80% of us how t live our lives. These are facts and figures not my invention. -
May be they know what is definitely wrong for Canada (not to mention that it can be possible that more than one party can be almost equally right for Canada) and they try to minimize that chance from happening at the expense of their personal beliefs. To me as long as a party don't follow and is not elected by religious right then that is right for Canada and good for our democracy. Exactly the reason why we should value our democracy and prevent those planning on destroying it to take over.

Yes I was planning to vote for NDP but now seriously considering to switch my vote to Liberals. What the NDP voters should realize is that if numbers stay the same until the voting day (that is Liberals and conservatives in tight race with NDP a distance of 4%+ second) then a vote for NDP is effectively the same as voting for conservatives. I am sure this is not their intention at all but in reality that is why they will do by keeping their votes to NDP which will have no chance of forming the next government effectively they pop up the Tories to get enough votes to overtake the Liberals and form the next government.
-
Yes with today's Nano's poll the answer is a definite YES it is time for NDP voters to move to liberals to boost Liberal support. 32.6 per cent supported the Conservatives as their top choice 31.4 per cent picked the Liberals as their top choice 27.0 per cent chose the NDP Trudeau did well in last night's debate also much better than both Mulcair and better than Harper (i didn't see the debate live but all analysts agree on that) so his numbers may go up even further tomorrow. The "He is not ready" personal attack ads on Trudeau won't work anymore. NDP had it till very recent but evidently they blew it.
-
I am no expert in international politics (not that I claim expertise in national politics) but I think coalitions have happened in many other democracies overseas. It is not directed to you Boges as you debated me in a civil manner and made a good point but the other guy instead of debating (which he had to argue against logic and statistics to do so) he actually attacked me!!!!. Btw, I think Trudeau indicated that he wishes to change the electoral system somewhat so that the end result better reflects voters' choices. No?
-
If you wish to debate then debate but no need for this, I am stating the facts and the facts are 60%+ of votes likely would go to opposition (likely 67% as it looks like now as we speak) and if a government formed by opposition then they would have the support or the votes of a strong majority of the voters not the single party with 38% to form a majority or 33% as it looks like now to form a government. Now you can argue with me all you want but you cannot argue with numbers and logic!!!. And who said I support Ontario liberals!!!.
-
Yes If the opposition decides to defeat the Tories by joining together then they would establish a true democracy in Canada as together they will have 60%+ of the votes. It is our election system that a party with 38% of votes forms a majority (25% of eligible voters which likely means only 25% vote for them as those who are eligible but don't vote are likely not happy with any of the parties including conservatives) and then passes unpopular bills to satisfy a minority religious right.

This EKOS poll scared the hell out of me yesterday but Nanos overnight poll again confirmed what it and other polls are saying which is a tight race. This latest one even Liberal ahead of the Conservatives by more than 3 percentage points . Not sure I can ever trust EKOS anymore!!. Three points separate major parties: Nanos tracking The Liberal Party was the first choice of 32.3 per cent of respondents, followed by the NDP at 31.1 per cent, and the Conservatives at 28.9 per cent. Voters were also asked a series of questions about whether they would consider or not consider voting for each of the federal parties, to determine each party’s proportion of accessible voters. The latest results show: The Liberals with 50.9 per cent support The NDP with 49.5 per cent support The Conservatives with 38.6 per cent support BOOMFACE!
-
I summarize the response to three major legacies: 1 - The Good He or his government kept Canada isolated from a depression the rest of western world suffered in 2008. Only a mild recession by his timely spending spree. 2 - The bad: Making the rich richer and the middle class and poor, poorer by his right wing policies.
-
This will go at the heart of credibility of EKOS poll if proven wrong in coming days. This is the only poll suggesting a big Tory lead as all other polls suggest still a tight race orbiting around 30% with Nanos overnight poll suggesting a Liberal lead of one percent over conservatives at 31.5 percent According to Nano's overnight poll, the Liberal Party was the first choice of 31.5 per cent of respondents, followed by the NDP at 30.8 per cent, and the Conservatives at 30.5 per cent.

Actually in my life I have come across many second generation Muslims and they have come a long way compared to their parents. At least most of them. Second generation Pakistanis in the UK are a good example. First generation Muslims from Iran, Morocco, Lebanon and Turkey are quite progressive already. Likely this will not be the case about those coming from backward Muslim countries. I used to frequent night clubs for almost two decades and that is where I mostly met them. In Canada, I met them mainly in Montreal bars. Same applies to all other non-Muslim immigrants in particular Asians (China and South East Asia) where second generation immigrants are much more adoptable. I do understand your point that if we only restrict ourselves to Europe then we don't have to wait for a generation or two to pass for adoptability but my point is that there are many first generation crowds in some Muslim countries who are already well adopted and could contribute very positively and deserve equal chance, I think the problems exist because they face daily discrimination and even harassment in their lives in those countries rather than their opposition to modern life but this is not the case in Canada and hopefully this will not change. I absolutely agree religious fanatics of all religions and ultra right wing racists and criminals all should be screened out.
-
No Peter I wasn't suggesting that Muslims don't change. The second and third generation specially will be/are as Canadians as the rest. Even some first generation Muslims. Also a Muslim majority will not happen in my lifetime as per suggestions by few that they double every decade. What I was saying however was this. That in a democracy even a tiny minority can change behaviors or laws in their favor suggesting that their religious rights have been violated and as an extreme example for the sake of debate even one may claim that he is being tortured every night fearing ending up in fire after life for the reason of hearing music from a nearby nightclub. So for what I say we don't need a majority to launch a constitutional challenge but a single person. All I say again is that we must be more selective in choosing our immigrants and adoptability should play a major role.
-
I just like the country as it is now. I don't wish risking it changed to a middle eastern country. Then how about my rights? if they don't like it the way it is now then they can and should go back to where they like more. What I said I am sure is acceptable to a majority.
-
I wasn't suggesting complains though Peter. I was suggesting the possibility of a constitutional challenge on the grounds of violation of rights and individual freedom which may be ruled favorably by courts.
-
Actually I gave a bad example (I did say I don't know much though) as any nightclub with disorderly patrons may bring complains from anyone even the most open minded people. As another likely better example I describe the following scenario: A single person or a group of them claiming that HEARING a music which comes out of the nightclub in the neighborhood or in a public street violates his religious freedom and rights as in his religion hearing music is banned!!!!. How about this? I am not suggesting banning Muslims. Please refer to my previous posts encouraging selection based on skills and adoptability regardless of race, religion, national origin........... All I say is that Immigration authorities must be more selective as who will come to this country
-
I am no expert in constitution but I am guessing that one or a group of neighbors may claim that their rights or safety may have been violated say because there is a disco in their street where young drunken men go to and get out drunk and get the courts to shut it down. Just a wild example. In democracies a small number can be very effective.
-
It is not a single person. They are growing in number every day. I have a message to that single or more person(s). If they don't like what is here already then go back to your own place but don't come here and try to change the way of life for people who are born here. Next they may target alcohol sale, discos, strip bars, premarital sex.... Btw, the Conservative party is not much different. They banned consensual paid sex between adults last year which based on many surveys a good majority of Canadians believed should have remained legal. As Trudeau said with friends like them who needs enemy!!!!.
