Libyan chaos started internally with internal political dissent and civil war quickly spread all over Libya as a direct result of Qaddafi"s dictatorship. The West intervened but only at the end when things were messed up already. Intention was t help establish a democracy but as we all know democracy and Arab culture don't mix up well. Afghanistan was a total mess with Taliban and a complete dictatorship and relatively speaking things are much better now in Afghanistan. Syria like Libya trouble started internally by opposition to Assad. I am not sure how much the West has intervened causing these problems likely none. Iraq though is a mess created by Bush administration. It was a total dictatorship under Saddam Hussein but this dictatorship made a stable and relatively strong Iraq and the war between different factions and formation of ISIS is as a result of a weak central government now,

I don't know much when it comes to religion but I know that much that most if not all religions discriminate based on gender Christianity included. What I am against though is generalization. I am sure that you can find among Muslims too many who respect women as much as most progressive western men do though I admit percentage wise it may be lower. Also don't tell me that wife abuse, wife bantering, rape, assaults disrespect for females,... is only among Muslim immigrants if you think so then read about statistics about all above right in your own backyard as how widespread all above are in North America and Europe, So saying that Muslims or any other religion or race or nationality is disrespectful of women (rather than saying some assholes that some of them could be Muslims as well like ISIS) or any other generalization is wrong even could stem from lack of knowledge or even bigotry.

Yes I can guess the type of crowd you speak to (or rather the type that speak to you) from the comments you have posted. Lets not bring more than what we can absorb immigrants or refugees. Those that we bring should be handpicked based on their education, skills and adaptability NOT religion or race as it is idiotic to do so.
-
This is one uninformed statement (and I don't use the real word your statement deserves out of respect for the board). There are a lot more Muslims (Shia, Yazidis, even Sunnis) killed by terrorist ISIS than Christians. Also hatred based on race, religion, color,.... is stupid and out of date now as the time of Nazi Germany is over and the hatred side lost. May I also remind you of Christian atrocities against Muslims as recent as 90's when Serbian Christians Massacred innocent Muslim civilians and raped and tortured in the name of Christianity not to mention a few decades before that when 6 million innocent Jews were massacred again in the name of Christianity by Christian Germans!!!. There are extremist in every religion who rape and murder in the name of religion.

I agree with Army Guy that some red tape is necessary. Remember with Cuban refugees and what followed was a crime spree in Southern US. Castro sent many criminals among them and many innocent American murdered, raped and robbed, They must be processed and if passed then allowed to enter Canada. I also like to say that we take those who can already speak one of the official languages and good skills so that they can more likely join the workforce and start positive contributions in Canada as soon as possible rather than joining the social programs and ask for handouts or social housing (first few months is acceptable). I am with Harper on immigration and I think that the 250,000 we take every year for a country of only 32 million, we do our share and more. The incomers should be selected and must pass background checks and with no criminal records and with good skills and speak the language. I am also with Harper that the root of problem which is war and poverty should be addressed rather than just bringing refugees to Canada. We should look after the interest of Canada not Syria. Also as I said oil rich Sheikhs must be pressured into doing their part and take a large portion of these refugees especially those who don't speak any foreign language or with no skills. After all they are their brothers and sisters who as I said can settle easy in those states like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Arab Emirates and Qatar. They should be politically and economically sanctioned if they refuse though I see that it is very unlikely as these corrupt Sheikhs are almost all US puppets!!!!.
-
I think you should try again. First of all there are ONLY THREE Arab states in the chart out of 33 listed. Lebanon and Jordan (and Syria - what the hell is Syria doing there? They are the source of refugees not the destination!!!!!!). Second and most important of all, I said RICH Arab states (and oil rich states are Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Arab Emirates and Qatar being run by Sheikhs. Neither of those three Arab states are rich or have oil!!!).
-
Damn Arab Sheikhs sitting on their rich asses and not raising a finger to help their Arab brothers and former countrymen sharing the same culture and religion at the time of need. These corrupt rich American sponsored so called allies of US Sheikhs, rich in oil and empty in brains with billions in Swiss banks and Casinos in Europe should be overthrown and thrown to the sharks in the Arabian seas. Shame on them.

He may be down because of his immigration policy also the fact that he like conservative wishes to balance the budget this year and apparently his numbers don't add up. Even though I would like to vote ABC but Trudeau is no choice for me and I am beginning to have my doubts about voting Mulcair too!!!.

Aug. Job Numbers: Unemployment up to 7%
CITIZEN_2015 replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I see a lot of positive things in job report. Some over 330,000 Full Time jobs created past 12 months against 100,000 part time jobs lost. August alone almost 55000 full time jobs created (against a loss of 42000 part time jobs). Almost 200,000 net jobs created past 12 months. This month alone 12000 more full time jobs. Those who remember recessions (especially the ones in the early 80's and 90's) know that these figures don't indicate a recession. The month of June saw 0.5 growth in the economy and very likely we see growth for July and August too and beyond. The falling commodity prices have been absorb by the economy and the second half of the year will see solid growth in GDP as well as employment.- 18 replies

Not so fast. .... The Iranian Parliament may reject the deal now!!!!!. http://www.wsj.com/articles/irans-ali-larijani-says-parliament-must-approve-nuclear-agreement-1441304205

These people are running for their lives now Saudi Arabia is not good enough for them because they can't shout death to the King!!!!!. It is food and shelter they need not freedom. You sound like Marie Antoinette who was told that people don't have bread and are starving and she responded why don't they eat cake!!!!!!!.

I don't know much about Arab politics and history but I know this much that all these Sheik states (Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Arab Emirates, Iraq, Syria, Jordan,...) used to be a single country called Arabia not long ago later divided into countries by artificially drawn borders under British rule. So these Syrian/Iraqi refugees in fact are same as other rich states and used to be countrymen. It would be a lot easier for them to integrate there and start a life right away as if it is their own country. I for one can't tell the difference when I see one as where they come from.
-
Yes their human rights records is miserable but as long as the refugees don't get involved in political opposition to the King or Sheik or Emir or whatever the hell they call it there who is ruling then they should be okay. On positive side they can start life right away and get a job (they speak the same language, have same culture/religion, adopt easy and fast to new home,.....) and start a normal life. I think the west should pressure these rich sheikdoms to take these refugees.

The cost of Migrants
CITIZEN_2015 replied to Civis Romanus sum's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I say what I said in other thread. It should be the oil rich Arab states to take these refugees where they speak the same language and score high on adoptability and culture rather than Europe who is struggling with poor economy. These Arab sheiks sitting on oil wealth must help their brothers the most. -
Why the oil rich states like Saudi Arabia or Kuwait or Arab Emirates don't take these refugees? They are sinking in oil money and don't know what to do with all oil dollars not to mention that most likely all of these refugees speak the language of those countries and can start a life right away.

Basically I was pointing to the fact that if there wasn't because of factors beyond the control of any government regardless of what party forms that government then the economy would have had solid growth. So lets not condemn the Tories for what they are of no fault but rather condemn them for what they are at fault and that is scandals and running undemocratic secretive corrupt government. I am far from being right wing. My posts are indicative of that fact.
-
What I was saying that if you exclude the resource economy then we will have a normal growth for first half of year.
-
So out of 36 industries listed some 6 or 7 are down. That is less than 20%. All industries is actually up slightly between February to end of June.
-
Harper is right about the fact that the root of refugee problem which is ISIS and war in middle east and poverty in Africa should be addressed rather than accepting millions of refugees. There are 50 million people displayed in Iraq, Syria and Africa are we going to take them all? They don't speak our language, most likely all with no skills or education and a burden on our health, education and social assistance programs. May be Mulcair wants to take a lot more but I don't think he is right about this.
-
Liberal are wrong on deficit spending. 80% of economy is growing. Only the resource sector is in recession. The economy will grow strongly in the second half of this year and the budget will likely balanced too. Don't fix it when it is not broken. The Cons have done well on economy but they did ran an undemocratic secretive government and the polls is just reflecting the latter not the former.

I did respond to those who deserved a response and never demand but suggested that I was waiting however my post was so true that may be Argus was not able to rebuff. To one who has serious psychological issues making personal attacks and false statements and accusations and who is uncivil in debates, I have no response in fact don't even bother to waste my time and read his long responses as I know it is full of garbage, lies and attacks and insults. Btw, Iran nuclear deal sealed so eat your heart Rue. http://news.yahoo.com/obama-locking-votes-senate-iran-nuclear-deal-070502119--politics.html#

I voted "don't know" even though I was inclined to vote "Yes". I am hoping that it won't happen. I met a (beautiful) Russian Girl on my recent trip abroad and she genuinely believed that the West is at fault in Ukraine crisis!!!!. We almost got into a fight!!!. She was either brainwashed or may be she was telling the truth. Honestly I don't know much about the Ukraine crisis except that I don't like Russians (unless they are pretty females). They have always had oppressive governments sending armies to colonize their neighbors and rule them by force, impose their idiotic communist ideology, supporting the oppressive corrupt regimes like the ones in East Germany and anyone trying to come out of their oppressive rule, then they sent their occupying army to crush the resistance like in Hungry, Czechoslovakia and Afghanistan and almost Poland too. My assumptions was that they did same with Ukraine but the Russian friend was saying otherwise....... They even oppressed their own people like the millions they sent to exile to Siberia and many died.

Argus I am waiting for your response to my post. Btw, I didn't even bother to read the two posts following my post responding to your post. A load of nonsense and false statements and accusations, fanatism and extremism I am sure as usual, so I don't waste my valuable time reading or worse responding to stupid comments and garbage posts.

The Tories have done well on economy and thanks to Paul Martin Liberals who balanced the budget they were able to avoid a deep recession in 2008 and 2009 by spending billions and creating a 50 billion dollar deficit and they gradually reduced the deficit to zero in 6 to 7 years. What will kick the Tories out is their miserable record on scandals and corruptions and undemocratic manner they have ruled since gaining a majority (which btw was attained with only 25% of eligible voters voting for them. Is this a flaw in our electoral system needs to be discussed in another thread). The manner in which they manipulated the parliament to push through unpopular bills and their scandals past 4 year is unforgivable so yes Tories out. And btw, we were in a recession based on universally acceptable definition for a technical recession but I don't see it as Tories' fault rather commodity prices worldwide.

Again Argus you are hiding the facts and the facts are Israel has no respect for human rights when it comes to people in occupied lands and I was very clear in my post about that (that I was referring to lack of respect for human rights by Israel for people in occupied lands). Dropping bombs on their heads, bulldozing their houses, shooting plastic and live bullets at demonstrators mostly children IN OCCUPIED LANDS are not very respectful of human rights. It would be horrible to have them as enemies especially as occupiers and especially when they are sitting on hundreds of nuclear bombs which THEY HAVE DEVELOPED IN SECRET as they have no respect for human lives if it is an enemy life, even women and children.
