By talking about them, sharing the news and their struggle and expression of support in social media we prevent their regime from brutal crackdown and further oppression as they see the world will react strongly.
-
DogOnPorch, have you forgotten your medications? Lots of nonsense and I have a feeling you are purposely trying to overshadow these acts of bravery needing our support by purposely posting irrelevant distractive remarks.
-
Goddess can we forget about radical Islam and concentrate on this women's movement and appreciate their acts of bravery?. Please start another thread on that topic. Btw, Iranian women are called the BRAVEST women: http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2018/01/30/iran-one-bravest-women-in-world-stands-up-for-freedom-west-should-stand-with-her.html

Please read my post. I said I view mandatory hijab as a symbol of oppression of women (mis-quoting is not nice) because in some countries they have made it mandatory for everyone. But if a woman chooses to wear that then who the hell am I to argue with her choice. I have no problem with it.
-
Why only from Muslim women in the West!!!!!!? Why such limitations!!!!. Why should you not as a feminist support your sisters too? Because they may be of different religion (some may not be even Muslims)? But foremost they are women struggling to earn their rights. They deserve support from ALL feminists, freedom loving people in the world regardless of religion, national origin, gendre or beliefs.
-
Please lets get back to the democracy movement in Iran. Thread hijacking is not nice when its result would be overshadowing acts of bravery.
-
No because many non-radical Muslims choose to wear it. Just last Saturday in a dance bar I saw a young female wearing hijab and was dancing with her boy friend or male friend. Please do not paint everyone with one brush.
-
1500 years ago the West did not exist or at least not in a civilized form. There were the Romans, the Persians, the Egyptions who had empires with civilizations and ruled the world. And this is another article/video. Please don't mud up these acts of bravery from democracy seeking females with hateful statements who desparately need your support and those of freedom loving people. https://www.cnn.com/2018/01/30/middleeast/iran-hijab-protests-vida-mohaved-intl/index.html
-
Yes I see bigotry. YOURS. You are as bad as hateful ISIS who hate other believers but on opposite side. The article was about democracy and appreciation of bravery, but you just mud it up with your statement. If you make wearing hijab illegal then you are as bad as those who make it mandatory. Because that makes you against freedom of choice and women's rights. An A-hole.
-
Well it is the mandatory nature of hijab which is the issue here and those brave lion hearted females risking their lives fighting for their freedom of choice (basic human rights and women's rights) deserves our full support and must and will get support from democracies like Canada and the West. Although as I have stated I view hijab as symbol of suppression of women however, I have no issue with it if it is a choice like many those hijab wearing females in Canada and the West. https://www.buzzfeed.com/borzoudaragahi/wearing-the-hijab-is-mandatory-in-iran-now-women-are?utm_term=.tk4JeYjW4G#.xnLKkY469b

Peaceful demonstrations for democracy continues in Iran most recently by lion hearted Iranian women. https://www.thestar.com/news/world/2018/01/29/women-in-iran-publicly-remove-hijabs-to-protest-countrys-islamic-dress-code.html In spite of harsh penalties they continue. Really brave and deserve our support.

Jerusalem is Israel's Capital...
CITIZEN_2015 replied to Scott Mayers's topic in The Rest of the World
This is the reality. When Iraqis invaded Iran their plan was to annexe the oil province of Khuzastan but they were militarily defeated before that plan put in action. Not to mention Soviet invasions into Czechoslovakia and Afghanistan. International laws are only for Israelis? -
Jerusalem is Israel's Capital...
CITIZEN_2015 replied to Scott Mayers's topic in The Rest of the World
If the Arabs had the military power which they don't they would have invaded and captured Israel and likely with no mercy for the population with likely millions killed and raped. They have shown this behaviour in the past and the hate is so strong against Israelis that they will very likely do it now even with all these so called international laws. geez they don't even have mecy for their own. Look at them what they are doing to their own in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, ......!!!. -
Jerusalem is Israel's Capital...
CITIZEN_2015 replied to Scott Mayers's topic in The Rest of the World
They conquered it militarily. So it is okay for Arabs to invade and capture many countries and force their culture and move their capitals but not Israel? I think that the most powerful country (the US) has accepted it already. Just saying. -
Jerusalem is Israel's Capital...
CITIZEN_2015 replied to Scott Mayers's topic in The Rest of the World
As for Israel and this thread, any country has the right to choose its capital. Period. -
Not sure why we are even discussing the military option here which is "Option Impossible". It was said economic and political pressure. Economic pressure on a bankrupt regime who is using oil revenue for self preservation while the people live in poverty. Political pressure by condemning acts of brutality and suppression of defenseless on streets and in jails. There is NO military option. It is up to Iranians to achieve this democracy by themselves for themselves and only with help from democratic countries and as was said that help must come in the shape of economic and political pressure. Please no more nonsense about a military invasion which will NEVER happen and no Iranian or any opposition struggling for liberation of Iran wants or even suggested as an option Let's live in real world not a fictitious one..

I meant in this thread.

I was saying while 90% of a society is suffering then it doesn't make sense to put emphasis on the 1% again and again. If it was only the gays rights violated I would have agreed. Yes I do agree that gay people ought to have EQUAL rights but the universe is not revolving around them while all others are suffering too and not a word about them!!!!. As for me being religious, please don't make me laugh!!!.
-
That is usually how it is that puppet regimes like Saudi Arabia are masked as progressive in the eyes of the US and some Western countries no matter how stinky they may be. And those nations who fight for their rights and want independence then are marked as terrorists and hit with exaggerated rumors like tossing gays off baconies and nonsense like these. It also shows the lack of maturity and knowledge of some board members by the nonsense that they post. Interesting that so many sectors of Iran's society are suffering from an unelected regime responsible for a bad economy in spite of being a rich country and lack of freedom and repression of journalists, students, union leaders, human right activists, women's right activists, freedom seekers, and many other layers of the society and the focus is placed on gays on this board!!!!!!!!.

Iranians do not need or expect the West to bring democracy to them. This would be made in US or made in the West democracy. they don't want this. They expect to achieve it on their own likely a western style parliamentary democracy and today's highly skilled and educated population is ready for that but Iran's society was not ready for that in 1953. The US had to act then because the Soviet puppets (Tudeh party) would have removed democratic Mossadegh in a coup and would have established a Soviet style dictatorship much worse than what followed in 1953. However, the West can now help so that in the process of achieving democracy, it won't be at heavy cost to Iranians (like many thousands getting killed) by putting economic and political pressure on the regime not to crack down hard and watch their actions and make them realize that there will be severe consequences for those who order shooting peaceful defenseless demonstrators. US is doing it right but EU appears acting for short term interest only but hopefully they change their position soon. Russians will be the loser as they are backing the wrong horse. West is always after its own interests and with The cold war over now, it is now in the West's interest that there will be democracy in Iran which will also bring about an end to turmoil in many parts of middle east as well as a secure source, supply and route (strait of Hormuz) for oil which is vital to the West.

It is the Russians who bombed civilians and opposition forces to death in Syria and somehow the US gets the blame for intervention!!!!!!!!????? And let's talk about Afghanistan. The US invaded because Taliban was behind the 9-11 attack and Laden was hiding in Afghanistan but Russians invaded Afghanistan for expansionist reasons and massacred tens of thousands of defenseless civilians including children by their toy bombs made especially for them. As for Iraq again damn Russians were there long before US invasion. The entire Hussein's army was equipped with Russian weapons and they used the Russian tanks and Migs to massacre the minorities like Kurds and Shia muslims in the south, The glasses you are wearing filteres out the very criminal actions by damn Russians and focuses on the US!!!!!. This is utter nonsense. Persia was the center of civilization. They brought the very first Charter of human rights and freedom in the history some 2500 years ago. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyrus_Cylinder http://www.persepolis.nu/persepolis-cyrus.htm It was only after Arab invasion and imposition of their culture when Persia became violent. It is also stupid to say that it "still is" and demonstrates your ignorance as you don't distinguish between an unelected and evidently unpopular regime and its people the latter wishes to go back to pre-Arab invasion times when Persia stood for human rights and freedom in the world. It would be the WHOLE WORLD not just Iran who would benefit from democracy in Iran. From geopolitical view sitting on the top of Persian Gulf it is the most important country and not to mention that it has the third largest oil reserves, second largest gas reserves and highly educated population who tops any other middle eastern country by a wide margin. Iran should have been South Korea today instead it is North Korea. Sad.
-
You are correct. But Saudi Arabia as stinky as its regime is agreed to provide background check and info on its citizen travelers not those countries which were banned (either because the regime in power was not trusted with those info or they could not because they were weak unstable governments).
-
Trump made quite a few speeches that American politicians have been avoiding to be politically correct but American public wanted to hear and vote for someone to act on their concerns. Take his stand on immigration for example. Many agreed with what he said and is doing now. Take her stand on banning several Middle Eastern nations. Although I personally do not agree with ban based on nationality but this was a major concern for US citizens after several terrorist attacks on US soil. Trump also has the balls and intelligence to support liberation movements in the world unlike Obama who signed a pack with the devil to leave a legacy.
-
So the total idiot opportunist Obama had a brain? He (Obama the idiot) sold out the weak and underdogs and the whole worid to leave a legacy for himself. Trump is saying what is CORRECT not what is politically correct like yourself Argus, have dared to say what is correct on many occasions.
