It is not only the cost to consider but cultural incompatibility caused by the inflow of aggressive war torn people some with unCanadian culture which stands for oppression of women (or the belief that women are inferior) who pose a danger to Canadians and its culture. Canada has no fault in creating refugees and Canada does not belong to Trudeau to make such promises.

I voted for Mulroney in 1988 though his failure on Meech Lake Accord and disastrous economy he left us by 1993, I voted for Liberals afterwards. Paul Martin's cuts were the necessary evil at the time. Canada would have remained in recession forever with rising deficits in a vicious circle of higher deficits and unemployment exactly the way it performed between 1882 to 1992. There was no such evil in 2012 other than getting Harper re--elected 3 years later which fortunately did not happen because of his disastrous campaign.

dollar rose before interest rates went up by 0.25% to 79 US on the signs of strong economy and Bank of Canada raised the rates because of all the signs that economy is in good shapes by economic numbers which are being released past few months like GDP and Employment growth. Btw, the rate was at 0.5% not zero.

I didn't say rising dollar is a good thing for Canadian economy though it is a SIGN of strong economy (to back up my post on rapid economic growth). In fact our export sector already slow will be hurt even more. The government can create the environment and confidence in the economy and hence spur consumer confidence and investments and that is what Trudeau government has done and likely why economy is in much better shape than Harper years. Harper government obsessed with eliminating the deficit (for its own political reasons as per promise it made to balance the budget by the end of its term) killed the confidence in economy and hence what was followed a recession at the end of its term

While Canada had the slowest economic growth during the Harper years latest economic data shows rapidly growing economic growth in combination with low inflation. GDP rose by 3.7% in the first quarter of 2017 and accelerating as yet Canada's economy grew by 0.6% for the month of May alone, not to mention a consumer price index of only 1% and an unemployment rate of only 6.5%. Both domestic consumer spending and capital investments are rising while Canadian dollar rising as well. All signs indicate solid economy which may not be necessarily good news for borrowers as interest rates rising too by confident Bank of Canada but definitely good for the country.

I don't think this is true. All those living in Canada (even visitors) are under Canadian laws. That said I personally believe government has no business in people's bedrooms as long as it is adult consensual. This is a free country.

Retraction: In my view consenting adult polygamy is no one's business and that was what the thread was about based on what is available in the news and internet however, after doing long research I was able to find one article which indicates underaged marriage and sex. But no charges has been laid in this regard and no one knows why and many including myself not aware of this. In this case since it is a serious crime in my view I am not going to assume innocent until proven guilty. I hope he gets what he deserves,

I did research and I found nothing on child sex claim and when I called out your post claiming that child sex was involved then you didn't respond and attached no link to back up your claim or quoted nothing.

I am guessing that in this particular case it may have been all adult consenting marriages as the maximum jail time would be 5 years (child abuse cases would have been much longer) and the lawyer plans to challenge the case (again if child sex or child marriage was involved bo one would have even thought of challenging the case). My problem is with consenting adult marriages should be no one's business, however, any marriage under legal age is not consenting since a child is not mature enough to consent to such action and hence it must be illegal and punishable by much more than maximum 5 years.

I asked you informed citizen where did you hear or read that child sex was involved but as usual you evaded the answer.

Child sex!!!!!!!!. The article said nothing about child sex abuse and nor did the CTV news report. Where does it say so? Child sex abuse deserves long term sentences.

Hopefully it will be challenged in the Supreme Court of Canada. I am not fond of polygamy but I believe government and law enforcement has no business in citizens' bedrooms. All marriages were consensual adult and sending to jail for consensual marriage or sex is against democratic values that I dear.

I think the cutoff line is there already (the personal exemption which I think is about $12000 and $17000 for seniors) and everyone above that should pay taxes though those close to these figures much less than those who earn six digits above. I am not sure that as much as one-third of Canadians don't pay any taxes. I would have guessed it is about 10 to 15% only who are low income earner making under $12000 annually.

Well depends why they don't. If tax evasion is the reason then they are citizens but bad citizens, but if they didn't pay taxes because they were poor then still citizen but poor citizens, well then taxes from the poor should not be expected as tax system is based on everybody paying their FAIR share. My comment was directed towards those who come here to contribute positively but somehow regard Canada as a charity and apply for social assistant and remain on it for many years or forever (to be on it for just a short time to settle but make up for it and contribute to tax system for a lifetime is okay but not more than a short time) . When I came here in the 80's initially I paid very little tuition as tax payers paid my fees for several years as well free health care and I was student and not tax payer (no social assistance of any kind though) but later in the subsequent years I became a heavy tax payer and based on my calculations I have paid so far over half a million in taxes (income, sales tax and municipal combined) and will pay another half a million by the date I retire. This is how we should select immigrants in addition to cultural compatibility like respect for the rights and freedom of others and respect for women.

Well in my view we have t be selective on immigrant so that they pay back Canada in the long term with taxes they pay over the usual 35 working years or most of that. I know this does not happen with our current immigration policies but that is because it is not perfect.

Anybody who is a Canadian citizen and is living in Canada and is a tax payer is a Canadian regardless whether she or he is born here or the color of skin or national origin and must enjoy equal rights and with rights also comes responsibility like respect for other races and religions and especially respect for women. That said I would prefer to see more European immigrants and South Americans and even South East Asians rather than from Middle East, Africa and India/Pakistan because of cultural compatibility the former groups being more compatible and not skin color.

I think you are the dumb one here who do not realize the danger that free world is facing from radical Islam and terrorists. I do not fight rich man's war but my own.
