You seem to be forgetting that his 'crimes' were already dealt with and he already did his time: 10 years in Gitmo without trial would count for 15-20 in our system, plus an 8 year sentence, he served 4 and is now released with supervision.
Pretty much the equivalent of our 'life sentence' (25 years) in Canada.
