  1. I hear the spitting outrage and I think ... Man there are some really ugly people here! 'I wonder how many of them are violent criminals, white supremacists or otherwise no good creeps?' We have no way of knowing who we're actually talking to on here. You could be a serial killer in jail, or a person who goes around committing hate crimes. The more the outrage and hatred, the more likely I think it is that you aren't someone whose opinion is worth much.
  2. Omar Khadr is not an immigrant.
  3. Lol Wait ... I'll ask him ... nope, he says he didn't because he doesn't like being without his lazyboy chair & tv. It seems that in your opinion, some citizens have more rights than others. So, if I make judgements the way you do, I'd say you're not really Canadian.
  4. Then you're not 'really' a Canadian either. You clearly don't comprehend that the rights of citizenship apply equally to every citizen.
  5. Neither are you, then.
  6. You do what you like, but we're definitely going in circles at this point. And it's pointless to me as there is still an appeal of his conviction to be heard. That could change the discussion significantly.
  7. That's happening to some extent, though some processes are poisoned and stalled by govt demands for an 'extinction' clause, a demand that is illegal in International law. However, according to the Supreme Court traditional treaties are to be interpreted in the modern context. Thus, for example, 'hunting and fishing' rights are interpreted as the right to sustain themselves from their traditional lands, including receiving revenues from development and resource activity on those lands. Likewise, the medicine kit historically distributed to all Canadian communities including Indigenous communities, now interprets as modern health care benefits.
  8. B_C has no clue about Canadian law. Apparently neither do you.
  9. I don't believe that's correct. I think what he said was he "didn't know" whether he threw the grenade (due to injuries and associated memory loss, I assume), but he hoped he didn't. A lot of this discussion may become quite irrelevant after Khadr's appeal of his conviction. I think we'd all be wise to wait for that outcome.
  10. Wrong. Go fix your own country.
  11. Neither of us is qualified to make such comparisons. As you say, you don't even know why funding is included for housing and roads (including ongoing maintenance, btw, not just capital costs). I said Kashechewan is underfunded compared to municipalities (if your figures are accurate). I made no such comment about Attawapiskat. I see no point in continuing this discussion.
  12. How old was he when he "abdicated his citizenship" ?
  13. I have never made excuses for the rest of the Khadr family. Most Canadians do not like to see our soldiers fighting US wars-of-aggression-for-profit. But we know it isn't soldiers making those decisions, and I hope you know we don't blame you. Do not confuse opposition to wars with opposition to soldiers. You're right - Liberal/Conservative makes little difference ...
  14. What law?
  15. Jealous much?
  16. Khadr's lawsuit has been in the courts since 2004 I believe, after CSIS egregiously and violated all Canadian principles of law and morality. Even the jail guards/interrogators at Gitmo could not believe their stupidity. The courts always offer an opportunity to the parties to settle the money aspect outside the court, which just happened. The gov could have left it to the court to decide the money question, but it would have cost them a whole lot more, likely the full $20m plus costs. Harper already spent $5m fighting it.
  17. So fckng what?! He was 10! Grown fckng men on here sh!tting on a child who thought he was going on an 'adventure'. What the hell is wrong with you???!!!!
  18. I can't make much sense of all that, except a lot of hatred and resentment of a 15 year old kid who was still very much under the care and influence of his very scary father at the time. His father had already threatened one son that he'd make him a suicide bomber because that son tried to defy him. I can tell you right now that you are not going to like how this turns out. The SCOTUS ruling makes it very likely that Omar Khadr's appeal of his conviction will be successful, and Mrs. Speer's lawsuit will not be paid out. You need to get a hobby ... or get active lobbying for better benefits for our veterans. Many Canadians have and will support vets in such endeavours. Strangely, though, the Conservative warmongers like Harper et al, who loved sending you into battle, will not be the ones supporting your demands for better benefits. They'll be fighting you all the way.
  19. I see. So not quite grown up yet. I mean no disrespect. The death of a soldier, father is a tragic thing. It's equally tragic for all the others who have died too. I've just never heard of a war widow suing an 'enemy' before.
  20. Lindh ... I'm surprised he survived. I wonder what he'll do when he gets out. Looks like he'll be out before Leonard Peltier. Mrs. Speer ... Her husband's been gone 15 years, kids are likely adults by now. Seems a bit odd that a court would award a huge settlement like that. It remains to be seen whether she can collect any of it. I read somewhere this morning that it's likely any decision about her settlement will be delayed until after Omar Khadr's appeal of his conviction. Makes sense.
  21. How many other war widows demand a $134m payout?
  22. Why are you avoiding answering my question? Q: How many people have ever before been convicted and sued for the death of a US soldier in active combat?
  23. His appeal of his conviction will be in the US. Nothing to do with Canadian politics, and politicians don't tell the courts what to do anyway. Try to learn how the system works, eh?!
